Texas could soon be in a position to turn the lights off on a federal plan to phase out certain light bulbs.

State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas -- and sold in this state -- avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year.

Yeah, I knew SC had done it.  I'm pretty sure we have manufacturers here as well.  I still love it.

I'm willing to bet that the Fed squashes this under the commerce clause.

They will say that there is no way the Texas can guarantee that these bulbs won't get out of the state of Texas.

They will point out that internet sales etc. will ensure that these bulbs won't just stay in Texas.

Even without internet sales, there would be a black market for them in other states.  People already do it for cigarettes in states with high taxes.

Naw.  They might try it but I don't think they'll get very far.  It's too easy for an internet site to not ship them out of state.

I have been stocking up on incandescents over the last year.   Are you telling me now I might not have to use them since I live in Texas?

I could probably sell them on E-Bay.

Texas Tells Feds: Shove Your Light Bulb Ban (http://nation.foxnews.com/culture/2011/06/20/texas-tells-feds-shove-your-light-bulb-ban)

The measure, sent to Gov. Rick Perry for consideration, lets any incandescent light bulb manufactured in Texas - and sold in that state - avoid the authority of the federal government or the repeal of the 2007 energy independence act that starts phasing out some incandescent light bulbs next year.

"Let there be light," state Rep. George Lavender, R-Texarkana, wrote on Facebook after the bill passed. "It will allow the continued manufacture and sale of incandescent light bulbs in Texas, even after the federal ban goes into effect. ... It's a good day for Texas."

Fred Upton has forced Americans by law to change the type of lightbulb they use. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFXHVbVR2Mo) (YouTube video)

Also ... 'President Bachmann will allow you to buy any light bulb you want' (http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/677-e2-wire/167169-bachmann-blasts-light-bulb-efficiency-law)

Thank you Boehner for appointing ole dim bulb Fred Upton as chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee .. Merci beaucoup you sun tanned, golf playing weasel.

The concept of freedom doesn't matter to most people if they don't use or participate in what's being taken away.

House turns out lights on Barton's bulb bill (http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/677-e2-wire/171063-house-rejects-bill-to-repeal-light-bulb-standards)

Quote
The House rejected a bill Tuesday aimed at repealing a slew of light bulb efficiency standards that conservatives have targeted as an egregious example of federal overreach.

The Better Use of Light Bulbs (BULB) Act, sponsored by Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), failed on a 233-193 vote, with a two-thirds majority needed for passage.

The vote fell mostly along party lines, but five Democrats voted in favor of the bill and 10 Republicans voted against the bill. One Republican voted "present."

The bill would have repealed provisions in a 2007 energy law requiring that traditional incandescent light bulbs be 30 percent more energy-efficient starting in 2012.

Even if the House had moved the bill forward, it would likely have been dead on arrival in the Senate, where companion legislation faces major opposition from Democrats. The White House also opposed the legislation, bashing the House bill on Monday.

The light bulb standards had become something of a high-profile cause for top conservatives like Rush Limbaugh, who cast it as a “light bulb ban” that would force consumers to purchase more expensive bulbs.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in a New Orleans speech last month: “President Bachmann will allow you to buy any light bulb you want.”

Tea Party favorite Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a co-sponsor of the Senate bill, said the legislation is “symbolic” of the frustration conservatives feel over overreaching laws and regulations.

“It is just another government intrusion in our lives, and in the context of ObamaCare, telling us what kind of health insurance we have to buy, I think people are just increasingly aggravated that the government is telling us what kind of toilets we have, what kind of light bulbs we have, what kind of health insurance, so I think it is just coming to a boil outside,” DeMint told The Hill on Tuesday in the Capitol.

Why did they suspend the rules to require a 2/3 vote instead of a simple majority vote? Just because it would probably fail in the Senate? Is that how we strategize to repeal the false religion/ global warming monstrosities now? So how long will it take for the enviro, no growth , flat earth society types to start complaining about all the mercury in the landfills leaching into the drinking water?

These are the RINO dim-bulbs that voted against our liberties:

Charles Bass
Brian Bilbray
Scott Garrett
Morgan Griffith
Richard Hanna
Tim Huelskamp
Tom Reed
David Reichert
Scott Rigell
Glenn Thompson

We can call FRED UPTON (John Boehner appointee) (http://www.thenextright.com/taxonomy/term/6818/0) at 202-225-3761 to tell him what we think.

Arrrrgh.  This is irritating.  If the CFL's are so good why is no one buying them.  If they can't compete in the open market then let them go!  If the hippies want to buy CFL's (or anyone who likes the dang things) let them buy them.  I HATE the CFL's let me buy the incandescents until they can find something that is a true alternative.

Where is this going to stop?  Are they going to force A/C manufacturers to come out with a digital thermostat that will only allow the A/C to be turned down to 85 in the summer and the heater only up to 60 in the winter?

And it will be, or already is in some states, illegal to burn wood in the fireplace for heat.

Ok, that's simply terrifying.

Of course, these smart appliances will include consumer controls to override the automated controls when needed. If you need to run your dishwasher right away, regardless of the cost of power, you'll be able to do so.

Of course if they can do these things then they can also override YOUR control.

I didn't read all of it on the site but what I saw I want no part of.
