grocery store frustration

I just returned from the grocery store and I'm livid. a lady, well dressed and well mannered, with a little kid who was both of those also, was checking out two people ahead of me. as she left, the screen in front of us showed she paid for most of her groceries with an EBT card. The ass in front me, as she walks away, turns to me and says, "i hope she enjoys the groceries we just bought her." it took me a moment to figure out what he meant, but then i was steamed.

i am wearing a very nice golf shirt with a logo from a local club that costs over $70,000 to join. it's a hand-me-down from my brother in law. the man obviously thought i was in his "elite" world. i am a hand-to-mouth guy, who only by sheer fortune and circumstance, have family that has supported me through some tough times. if i didn't have that safety net, who knows where i'd be, if even alive. i know desperate times and bad fortune.

so anyways, i didn't want to cause a scene, with my girlfriend with me and all, i just didn't respond or say anything. i just stood there brooding. the guy checks his stuff out and off he goes. i finally decide i have to say something to him and look for him as I run out of the store. by this time, he's gone and i'm kicking myself for not being more assertive.

any help as to what i could have done or should do next time?

Next time, give it a little more thought, and come up with a more believable story

Next time, give it a little more thought, and come up with a more believable story

But to the DUmmie's credit it did take place in a grocery store.

edit to add: I've been going grocery shopping with my wife fairly regular for the last few months in hopes of having a Bouncy encounter. Thus far I've not had any success.

When I worked overnights as a cashier at Walmart, I (and everyone else) HATED the first of the month.

EBT cards renewed, and one night, we had a couple come thru not once, but TWICE, each one pushing a heaping shopping cart.

I rang them up the first time:  $275+.

My CSM rang them up the second time:  $260+

All paid with an EBT card.  Our tax dollars at work.

A lady I work with has a night job at Walmart to put her kid thru college. She tells me stories that if it was anyone else I would find hard to believe. The one that pisses her off most are the welfare parasites that come thru with multiple cards. I have actually seen this once with my own two eyes at a convineince store a few blocks from my house. Bitch had a bunch of snacks... and a case of beer... 2 twelve packs actually and it wasn't rat's ass beer either.  She handed a card for the snacks, it didn't have the funds in it, and she did it two more times before she found one that had the funds in it. Then she pulls out cash and pays for the beer and got a cartoon of smokes to boot! Good smokes too.

After she left I asked the cashier guy, who I know, went to school with his Dad, and he told me that happens all the time.

Pisses me off.

YES!
Maybe next time say something right off the bat so you can get your ass kicked by a conservative or right winger. How's that for your "vitriol"?

EBT card users should go to a coupon class.  Couponing takes too much work and effort to save your family lots of money, so I doubt they would.  I just do not understand why people spend so much money on groceries.

Why not? I mean, it's not their money. They save that for the smokes and beer.  :censored:

Well my take on it is they know how to play the system. That is their "job". Getting money from the gummint... stealing from us in other words. That is all they really know. Cut that off and these people cannot fend for themselves. I would just like to see the fed gummint delay putting out any money on the welfare cards for 3 weeks. Just enough that they would have to spend their own money on food for a change. I bet there would be riots in the streets.

Delay that money for one day and you will have problems.

Why do the DUmmies keep posting this ridiculous shit over & over? :banghead:

I know of almost no conservatives who bitch about their property taxes paying for roads, police, schools, etc.  Yeah, we may bitch when they get raised by 25% in a year.  But paying those types of taxes is not a big deal to me.  Paying INCOME taxes is our issue.

Stupid bitch, Beth. :bird:

Group shopping. Instead of 4 people going to Walmart 2 people go with 4 cards.

When I worked overnights on the first of the month, they would start "hovering" around the checkouts starting at 10 minutes until midnight.  2 and 3 deep.  The first ones would come thru the lines at about 5-10 minutes after midnight.  Some had been in the store so long, the frozen foods in their carts had thawed!

But like I said, DUmmies can have more bouncies in one grocery store trip than I witnessed as a cashier for a year.

No, it was the same couple, may have been 2 different cards (his and hers), but 4 shopping carts loaded with stuff.

I had a woman who was shopping with two young children complain that only one checkout line was open while she was standing behind me.  An employee overheard her, and two more lines were opened shortly thereafter.  Does that count?

Well, I was shopping at the Walmart grocery section, and I kid you not, some dude placed in his cart:

Johnsonville Brats
Sargento Cheese
Coors Lite

Nobody jumped out from anywhere to scold him, though.

I don't think so. There was no conversion. Nor any jumping out of bushes or cheering. Plus you didn't start it with "so". Now if you would have started it with "so" and the woman would have blamed the lack of open checkouts on the BFEE and the employee would have cried while opening the lines while everyone else cheered it could probably be a Bouncy.

I did have an encounter of sorts myself back when W was president. I've never posted it here before because it's not really a Bouncy. It was just strange. In order to give it the Bouncy vibe I'll try to write Bouncy style. Just keep in mind that this is a paraphrase of the conversation, but it is close.

So I went to the grocery store with my wife to help with the shopping. We had gotten separated just a bit as I was looking at the selection of Cheetos. I can't really remember exactly what I was looking at, but Cheetos seemed a proper fit for the story. While I was standing there minding my own business a guy walks up to me and says something. As I was focused on the vast selection of Cheetos I didn't hear what he had said and asked him to repeat it. I was still focused on the shelf and hadn't looked in his direction. Anyway, he did repeat himself and it went like this…

Guy: That Bush is going to do it isn't he?

With that I looked over in his direction and he was in his late 20s, wearing jeans that were 5 or 6 inches above his ankles and wearing one of those motorcycle helmets that exposes the ears. I just stood there silently for a few seconds then replied.

Me: Yeah. Probably so, but you know how that Bush is. Ain't no telling what he'll do.

With that the guy smiled, nodded his head and walked away. I watched as he went to a guy that was standing at the other end of the aisle and asked the same question. When my wife walked up I was still standing in the middle of the aisle watching the guy with a confused look on my face wondering what obligations I may have just placed on President Bush.

Wife: What is it?

Me: (pointing in the guys direction) Who is that guy with the motorcycle helmet on his head?

Wife: I don't know his name, but he's here all the time. I think he has a learning disability, but he's always happy and friendly.

Once she said "happy and friendly" I knew that he wasn't a member of DU so we went about our shopping. As we were heading for the truck I noticed him in the parking lot asking another man the same question.

There wasn't a conversion. No one cheered. No one jumped out of any bushes.

I wish that would work at Academy Sports and Barnes & Noble,
but I'm sure they'd just tell you to keep your money and leave.

People have been saying that since the Civil War.
Depending on the definition, they've all been right.
I think we're good for another 150 years.
I don't want any "change", and I've already got unbounded "hope".

Greece is going to hell in a handbasket of socialist design. Not much coverage of the current riots here, though.

Wha..!?!

I pay with those things via my taxes plus I pay for things that my taxes don't cover, like food.  The woman with the EBT card doesn't pay for most of anything.  There's no comparison to be made between the two.

franks' right, she is the most stupid person on the internet.

27. I was also in a grocery store today...

The guy in front of me was dressed in a yellow shirt, shorts and sandals. I could tell he was a freeper but I'm not the assumptive type.

I stood there in my code pink t-shirt and upside down American flag shorts as his items we're scanned waiting for him to say something that I could easily retort.

He said nothing, just went about his business, had his groceries bagged and walked off.

I then did the same and didn't even have an encounter with people behind me who we're potential freepers, I would have dumbfounded them with a quick one liner if they were.

I ran quickly outside for a potential confrontation, but alas, he was simply putting the groceries in his car and nothing happened.

I also wen't about my busines, we both went on our merry way and no politics were ever discussed. Crazy, most of the heated political disagreements happen at grocery stores.

No cops jumped out of the bushes either.

They would rather take the paychecks from the military first. :censored:

I am in school right now. I chose not to work while there so I could concentrate on my studies. I am using savings and the GI bill to make ends meet while there. I am comfortable but do not live high on the hog. One of my classmates on the other hand does. She is always going out to places like the Olive Garden for lunch (I brown bag it) and turns up her nose at people that go to thrift shops for clothes (found quite a few things there for a fraction of the cost). Come the first of the month she was frantic because she couldn't find her EBT card. It's nice to know that my hard work is supporting a lifestyle that I can't afford. :argh:

People aren't as frugal with money that isn't theirs. Just look at how politicians use your money. Look how "project pimps" create their government-owned housing.
