If I create a contest thread on DU to offer money prizes ... and, after the winning entries are selected, I send to DU's PO box address some checks, some stamped envelopes, and a list of the DU user-names of the winners ...
... then would the DU Admins fill in the addresses on the envelopes, use the list of user-names to fill in the legal "pay to" names on the checks, seal the checks in the envelopes, and mail the checks to the winners?
All winners would get the same amount of money, so it would be good enough to make sure that every winner gets a check, and no winner gets two checks. There would be no need for the Admins to maintain any special relationship between the DU user-name of a given contest winner and a particular check for that winner.
Hmmmm.
I knew my fellow alum wasn't going to be too fond of this idea.

1. Unfortunately, I don't think we can do this.
There are a number of state laws concerning the proper way to run a contest. I don't think Democratic Underground can be involved in helping you run one without getting our lawyers involved.
Sorry.

Particularly if said checks come back NSF after an attempted cashing.

You cannot run contests at the DUmp, but scams are okay.
They're way more profitable anyway.
