What informatoin about DU members is available to the mods?

DU (presumably you and a few others) know my name, address, e-mail, IP address, etc. etc. etc. And I was fine with that when I provided that info and I remain fine with it to this day.

Do the mods have any access to this? If so, to what?

If they do not have access, are they in a position to gain access if they were so inclined?

1. Moderators have access to...

...the name and email address you voluntarily provide on your account:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

They do not have access to any other personal information, including real personal information associated with donations to DU (real name or address). They also do not have access to your IP address.

2. I forgot to ask . . .

. . . is the confidentiality of that information covered by the agreement they're made to sign?

Oh.

That's who that was, the primitive who posed the question.

By the way, two things:

(a) conservativecave is considerably less invasive about asking personal information from members registering here, than is Skins's island.  No member here has been asked to provide anything excepting an e-mail address.

(b) moderators on conservativecave have access to ISP (internet service provider) numbers.

Whatshisname is probably going to become even more paranoid after reading (b).

Too bad.  Excresence happens.

I was just about to call bullshit on (b)...moderators absolutely can see ISPs on DU! Skins is lying his ass off!  :lmao:

Ah shit! Hey Frank? Can you fix my last post? The quotation is messed up and I can't fix it on my phone!

Well, all I can say is this: whatshisname has a mole here.

However.

However.

However.

Whatshisname's mole has never broken any rule; the record's clean as a whistle.

Now, I'm not an administrator or the owner of conservativecave, but personally, for however much it counts, I don't have a problem with whatshisname's mole; he hasn't broken any rules.

Surely we have a mole who is, or was, a moderator we can inquire with.   :-)

No biggie, sir; in correcting yours, I noticed an error in mine, and had to correct that too.

Any time.

You know, madam, every time someone talks about ISP numbers, I get this certain image in my head, that of Fat Che sitting at the kitchen table, his belly hanging down halfway to the floor, with a pair of scissors cutting out ISP numbers and pasting them into an album, as if postage stamps.

Some seem really obsessed about this.

But there's no reason to be paranoid about franksolich and ISP numbers; I don't bother with them.

One time, a new member showed up here, and I was asked by another moderator if it might be Pedro Picasso.  I checked the number, but it meant nothing, nothing at all, to me.

franksolich looks at ISP numbers, but looking at something is different from understanding something.

I didn't need any ISP number, for example, to learn that the Bostonian Drunkard is afflicted with boryborygmia, or that Pedro Picasso is a trimenthylumiac.  There's other ways of learning things without being (or trying to be) sneaky and devious about it.

Don't know much about it, but do remember from Sparky's old site that with the ISP you can get the location (state) they are posting from.    Some idiots use their work servers, so you can secure that information as the ISP will show the name of the employer.

The only good thing about using AOL is that they mask your ISP so no one can track you.     That said, savvy computer users utilize all sorts of ways to get around this, so I am sure others here can speak at length on this topic.

There's apparently two different sorts of ISP numbers, "static" and "dynamic".

The second, I guess, is one that changes a lot.

My own ISP number used to be out of Norfolk, Nebraska, the location of my ISP, which would enable a devious-but-stupid primitive to locate franksolich within a radius of, oh.....probably 200 miles.

Then one day, I noticed it had changed, and checked it out; it now shows franksolich in Kansas City, Missouri.

It was obviously something my ISP did, but whatever.

chris_ and TVDOC explained it to me, but I soon thereafter forgot it all, as it didn't seem important.

I don't think it's worth a second of one's time, or a drop of one's sweat, to bother with that.

Is that question being asked because there's a possibility that moles have been/are moderators there?

I was just about to call bullshit on (b)...moderators absolutely can see ISPs on DU! Skins is lying his ass off! :lmao:

As far as I know moderators on every board have access to a person's IP.

Given the DUmp's thriving mole population, it's a certainty that many mods are and always have been moles.
In fact, some decent and civilized people have no doubt had their moles tombstoned by the moles of other decent and civililzed people.

Yeah, that has actually been known to happen.

But unlike the primitives, who would sit down and bawl and whine about it, the moles of decent and civilized people just shrug their shoulders, excresence happens, adapt, and move on.

I have a suspicion.  :-)
