Title: Who's up fo a little submarine warfare?

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has sent submarines to the Red Sea in the first such deployment by the country’s navy in distant waters, a semi-official news agency reported on Tuesday.

The deployment reflects Iran’s efforts to show off its naval power. Iran has long sought to upgrade its air defense systems and navy to portray itself as a regional military superpower, as well as prepare for any possible future attacks against the country, saying they would most likely be air and sea-based.

Will the Israelis take a shot or 2?

Would Iran ever admit losing a sub to the Jews?

If there was an honest accident wouldn't the Jews be blamed regardless?

Iranians...come out to plaaayyyyyy...IRANIANS...come out to plaaaayyyy--ayyyyy!!!

I applaud this financial self-****ery on the part of the Iranians.

This is funnier than watching Chavez try to build and maintain a giant, modern airforce.  Not scary, and too damn expensive for the nation in question.  In both cases, the nations are buying obsolete concepts for far more than they can afford.

Dok,
Thinks you should never interfere when your enemy insists on punching himself in the junk.

Probably, and given Iran's technical know-how, those ****ers would be damned lucky to all come back alive from the cruise even if the Israelis completely ignore them.

It's really a golden opportunity for the IDF to test their ability to find and track the subs, without doing anything hostile at all, which would in its own way unnecessarily give up information to the Iranians on Israel's ASW capabilities.  Of course the Israeli presence on the Red Sea coast is pretty minimal, being just the thin sliver of land between Aquaba and Taba at Eilat, all the way up at the end of the Gulf of Aquaba, and the Jordanians are just as interested in freedom of navigation in that zone as are the Israelis.  Due to shallows at the Straits of Tiran, the Gulf of Aquaba itself is pretty much a deathtrap for subs.

Quote from: From the link
Iran has long had three Russian-made submarines and last year, four new small Iranian-built submarines were delivered to its navy.

The four were said to be Ghadir class submarines, which can fire missiles and torpedoes and at the same time are capable of cruising in shallow waters, such as those of the Persian Gulf off the Iranian coast.

So, two obsolete Russian castoffs and 4 dinky tubs that are fresh meat for anyone with a metallic anomoly detector.

Like I said, let 'em waste their money.

Their two Russian purchases are "Kilos", which, although superceded, are a pretty good boat if crewed and commanded competantly........expecially in coastal waters.

I'd have to agree with you that Iranian-built subs would likely be deathtraps.  Seeing their efforts at producing fighter aircraft and long-range missles would lead me to the conclusion that they might have to round up crews at gunpoint.......

That's a pretty big "if".  Iran isn't known for their submariner tradition.

Would it hurt your feelings if we rammed a torpedo up its ass? Or would that break some international law?

The only way that would happen with our present administration.......would be by accident.......

All I can think of is that there is nothing more dangerous to our Sub force then running into a foreign sub manned by a third world country.

This is akin to driving down the road in the dark and having a drunk driver coming at you. What the hell is the drunk going to do, how to avoid them when they are all over the place??  Does the drunk even know you are there, you can swerve and even run off the road to avoid them but the drunk may take you out what ever you do.

This is a problem when the enemy is untrained, like running into an enemy that comes up against you with a machine gun they have never fired, more dangerous then someone trained to use the weapon.

For the protection of our Subs,    a good rule to follow would be when coming across a sub from a third world country, best thing to do is to radio to base, -----Found Sub, sank same.    Accidental malfunction on the boat, apologies to Iran or whatever, shit happens.

Naw, they still have it coming for the hostage thing in the 70s, in my opinion...But it would be a waste of energy.  These guys are about as dangerous as Dukakis in a tank.

Or would that break some international law?

Depends.  Are we at war with Iran?  Or are you advocating that we just start shooting at everyone we don't like?

Why does this sound like a contradiction in terms; a country that is mostly dessert sand needing submarines.

Dunno.  Libya has even less justification.

It's basically Ahmadinejad trying to feel like he has a big dick.

Tell me about it.  Hate to say it, be we make it look TOO easy.

Hell, the Canadians as of this weekend have ZERO operational boats.

I see you've met vestanumbers.

Oh, and vesta?  It's called TACTICS.  Namely, ours have been developed over a century of experience, technology, and yes, blood.

Theirs?  Well, if you count that old Commodore Amiga version of 688...

This is what I was trying to say Sparky, Warfare under the sea is most complicated.   It takes much education just to ride our boats.    The Sand Worms have little training in war fare that is not on land.

The tactics you speak of are a  4,000 years in the making, first surfice and then down under. same tactics, how to place the ship to make a kill, the wind and the tide.

There are currents under water, thermal layers etc. all has to be mastered, much like the topside sailing ships.

These Subs that have a crew of Sand Worms are dangerous, they have no idea what they are facing and it scares me, they are like a ricochet of a bullet that bounces off something and hits a vulnerable part of what they are shooting at.  Sort of like when faced with someone with a gun, and being faced with a 3 year old child that finds a gun and shoots at random.

Our boys that ride the boats are facing not just third world subs but now have to worry about our own Government that wants to place females in an environment that has been built for and maned by Men for a time since the Subs were first invented.

Sooner or later something very bad will happen, our Sub service works like a clock but why are  people trying to fix a or change something that has worked for 100 years????

What is more dangerous, a third world country Sub, or, putting young woman on a sub for 3-6 months with 90 horny men????

Wait.  Now it's about women on subs?

Untrained women on subs are more dangerous than 4000 years of submarine warfare.

Or words to that effect.

Untrained women on subs are more dangerous than 4000 years of submarine warfare.

Or words to that effect.

No Dock, even as well trained as the men, after 60 days at sea woman will become a complete distraction for the crew.

Now the woman themselves will become attracted to one or two of the crew members---this is a mess.

Not 4,000 years of sub warfare, 4,000 years of man on the sea, learning how to manerove against time and tide.   100 years of being under the sea where there are currents and thermal layers  beneath the sea.  Salt dencity and the fact that there may be uncharted obstacles ----flying blind with only the human ears to listen to and depend on instruments to guide them.

Do you sail Dok, I do, it took hundreds of years to learn how to sail against the wind.    Today we are still learning how to keep an even keel at huge depths the pressure and the sudden unexpected currents that come out of no where.

Even the most experienced CO make mistakes as we have seen in the news.   Coming up under and capsizing large ships on the surface, running into obstacles not on any chart.--Shit happens and to add females to the mix is a dangerous distraction perhaps worse then facing a sub full of sand worms with little training.
