I heard that SSI recipients get 2 to 3 times more money than they put in?
Is this true? Shouldn't you only get what you pay in with interest?
No one should get more than they put in.

You heard wrong. Many SSI recipients get an infinite amount out than they put in.

1. So what should senior citizens do when they run out of SS?
Edited on Thu May-26-11 12:43 PM by EFerrari
Be put out on ice floes? Dumped in parking lots? What?
ETA: Or disabled workers, for that matter. Maybe we can stack them and used them for fencing?
DUmmie Beth shows her lack of reading comprehension. The OP was about SSI, not SS. From there most of the DUmmies follow her misguided path.

8. faux has a special on now, referring to people who use social services as the takers
and of course the corporations as the shakers
Takers, moochers, thieves, it's all the same when describing those that can work, but don't and keep on popping out babies.

Teh DUmmies don't know that SSI comes out of the general budget funds, not SS "contributions". You don't have to contribute anything to collect SSI if you can demonstrate you've been brain damaged by illegal drugs even if you're 12 years old!

Well darn I was just looking at the requirements for SSI, wandered back and Shazam it takes the lock.
Geez. Hey lurking dummies SSI is welfare in my mind.
But don't take it from me or anyone else here go to their site and see for yourself:
http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-over-ussi.htm
HOW IS SSI DIFFERENT FROM SOCIAL SECURITY
BENEFITS?
Many people who are eligible for SSI may also be entitled to receive Social Security benefits. In fact, the application for SSI is also an application for Social Security benefits.
Unlike Social Security benefits, SSI benefits are not based on your prior work or a family member's prior work.
SSI is financed by general funds of the U.S. Treasury--personal income taxes, corporate and other taxes. Social Security taxes withheld under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) or the Self Employment Contributions Act (SECA) do not fund the SSI program.
In most States, SSI beneficiaries also can get Medicaid (medical assistance) to pay for hospital stays, doctor bills, prescription drugs, and other health costs.
SSI beneficiaries may also be eligible for food assistance in every State except California. In some States, an application for SSI benefits also serves as an application for food assistance.
SSI benefits are paid on the first of the month.
To get SSI, you must be disabled, blind, or at least 65 years old and have "limited" income and resources.
In addition, to get SSI, you must:
––be a resident of the United States, and
––not be absent from the country for more than 30 days;
and
––be either a U.S. citizen or national, or in one of certain
categories of eligible non–citizens.
And yes certain non-citizens. Si Habla amigos!!! :mental:

The DUmmies really are smart aren't they? :mental:
Attention lurking DUmmies ,let me introduce you to the first recipient of a social security payout, Ida May Fuller
http://www.ssa.gov/history/idapayroll.html
She paid a whopping 24 dollars into the system, while taking out over 22 THOUSAND.

When SS was implemented the life expectancy was much lower than it is today. My Aunt had a massive stroke when she was in her early 40's, she went on SSDI, she lived another 30 years, she received 30 years of benefits and only paid what totaled 3 months of money into the system.
