Democrat Hochul prevails in NY-26 race

...With 91 percent of precincts reporting, Hochul held a commanding 48 percent to 42 percent lead over Corwin. Tea party candidate Jack Davis received 9 percent...
...Complicating the race was Davis, a wealthy industrialist and Democrat-turned-tea party candidate who spent nearly $3 million out of his own pocket on the race. He spent his candidacy warning the area’s blue-collar voters that they were losing their jobs to China.
GOP officials grew increasingly concerned as polls showed Davis siphoning GOP voters from Corwin. With just several weeks left in the race, the NRCC and American Crossroads, a conservative group, poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into attack ads slamming Davis...
You're gonna see this tactic being used nationwide next year. This outcome was projected by the GOP for over the past two months. The democrat party will be embolden with this win.

The more publicity about the "fakes" the less they'll be successful.

And how do we get this publicity out? Print media? Commercial news outlets?
Our only hope is for the TEA party to officially become a political party. They tried to get this clown in NY to stop using the Tea Party in his campaign. They couldn't get a court to force the issue.

They're going to need to do something.
The democrat party tried to do the same thing here in MI for the 10 elections. Difference was in MI., the candidate was not allowed to run. In NY, he was.

That was excellent analysis, Marv, thanks for the link. :hi5:

As an aside, and minor consolation, redistricting probably will do away with this District, as western upstate NY is losing a seat, due to the loss of population to more business friendly southern and western states.
Funny if it happens. Spend all that money and resources to win a seat that means next to nothing in the House because of the Republican majority and the district might not exist in a few years.

An unabashedly strong candidate unafraid to speak her mind. You look at the establishment candidates. Every single one of them has been cowered into near-silence afraid of being called a racist when they use certain phrases/words/criticisms against 0bama. Then take a look at Sarah Palin. If they could've pinned that label on her they would, they certainly tried. She wouldn't LET them. SHE has framed the debate every single time she's entered the conversation. A candidate like that (doesn't have to be her but I hope it is) would be able to quickly dispatch any fake tea party candidate.

Well, there's this little tidbit on RedState:
The Willingness of the Press to Believe Democrat Spin

The press’s ready willingness to believe Democrat spin is yet again driven home this morning by the Republican loss in New York last night. Immediately, the press was adopting Democrat spin that this was all about medicare. The press has a history of doing this.
In April of 2009, the GOP lost a special election in New York with Jim Tedisco as the nominee. Carl Huse, in the New York Times, noted,
The ultimate reality check for Congressional Republicans had to come Friday, when Scott Murphy, a Democrat, was declared the winner over James N. Tedisco, a Republican, in a House race in upstate New York.
Though the seat was vacated by Kirsten E. Gillibrand, a Democrat, so she could accept a Senate appointment, Republicans had a 70,000-voter registration advantage. More important, the party out of power often wins these sorts of contests in the aftermath of national elections as voters experience buyer’s remorse. Republicans had the more experienced candidate and went at the contest hard, only to come up short. It is likely to haunt the party and potentially depress candidate recruitment and fund-raising.
Brad Woodhouse at the DNC spun reporters with a tale going like this: “The outcome of last month's Special Election in New York s 20th Congressional District is further proof that the public supports President Obama, his agenda… and the overall direction he is leading the country. The outcome also goes to show that the Republican Party has no new ideas, is tied to the failed policies of the past and that it is in disarray and faces an uphill battle in local and state elections in 2009 and 2010.â€
Yeah, Brad, we all know how that turned out, don't we?

As far as I'm concerned, the Democrat Party should continue to act as if this is a national "movement." We'll see on November 6th, 2012.

...and the more they think that, the more brazen they get with their verbal attacks on normal and decent Americans. I say go for it.

The lessons of NY-26 is that if you are going to throw your weight behind the Ryan budget and all it represents, then you better damn well learn how to defend it.
This was a Republican strong hold, lost to a liberal Democrat because the medicare scare that the DNC flooded the airwaves with was never responded to. The warning about fake tea party candidates is very misplaced, cause we have much bigger problems if the GOP doesn't start to educate the voters on what Ryan's plan is, and why is it necessary.
I also want to point out with this example that this is clear testament as to why candidates like Rand Paul have a snowballs chance in hell of ever winning a presidential election.

This "education" thing, pushed by Rush and Levin is a fool's errand. How long have they and others like them been preaching it and every once in a while the results fake them into believing it actually works. The beauty of the communist system is you don't piss away time and financial resources on speculation you may change a mind. You don't. Imprison, execute or in any other way marginalize your opposition. We live in a system that plays by different rules but it doesn't mean we can't play them hard.
Someone mentioned Bin Laden't quote about "you love life, we love death". A response along the lines, "Then we will give you what you love", would have been nice. That is how you play the game. There is still a chance to refer to those who don't pay taxes as parasites and leeches and motivate your base and excite those who are tired of pulling the wagon.
There is a big, fat fastball that's just waiting to be sent out of the park. On the one hand there is Obamacare and high taxes, on the other hand there is choice and self-determination. They want to scare granny? Scare back twice as hard. They have someone pushing her off the cliff, where is the commercial with the death panel pulling the plug?
Why the hell is the RNC being led by someone with the name of Rience Predbus? Where do they find these people? You have to take an "Animal House" mentality. You know they are going to attack you regardless of what you do, so do the big thing. Lead, follow or get the **** out the way!

Yeah, that will work -- not. Granny was scared to death and this GOP candidate/NY Republican party chose not to respond to that.
All politics are local. Your local candidate is not an effective campaigner then just call it a freakin day. Don't stand for something you won't bother fighting for.
The DNC and the media have very nicely placed Ryan's budget in the scary monster category. Until GOP candidates start educating while they campaign, then they will continue to lose. This is campaigning 101, and all the chest beating in the world from the real conservatives is not going to negate that fact.

If education worked there would never be another Democrat majority in Congress or Democrat President.

I think the fundamental difference between the "education" approach versus the "aggressive" approach is the level of offensive versus defensive mechanisms employed.
The "educational" approach seems to be more defensive in nature, though it doesn't have to be all the time. The "aggressive" approach certainly is not defensive, but it is responsive.
The thing that's missing from the RNC's playbook is how to employ a more offensive strategy and keep the pressure on. I'm not privy to everything the RNC's doing, but I would submit that Steele's leaving the helm of the RNC has not resulted in a transformed RNC.
I'm not so sure that ALL politics are local. Where leadership at the national level is needed, particularly with political parties, and it's missing, you can expect some foundering at the local level.
The RNC has been woefully devoid of leadership, strategy, and a vision for a very long time. The Tea Party has helped resolve some of that, but it can't replace it.
-
The votes come at the local level, the RNC's job is to get the money into the hands of the local candidates (who have a prayer of winning that is) - and send them the staff they need to get the job done.
Educate while you campaign = good speeches from great speakers. It's catch phrases that resonate and connect you to the voter. That is offense.
Scott Brown was a great speaker who had a great message. He educated the liberal masses as he knocked on their doors. The tea party funded his message. He was successful, and is not losing his seat anytime soon.
That is your blueprint for success. Wash, rinse and repeat. Ryan put up a budget which the GOP claims to own? These candidates need to get out and own it by defining it in their districts.
They haven't done that to date. This putz in NY-26 sure didn't.

Education is fine when it's a focused message a la the "Contract With America"? I'll go back to my original point and the term "Death Panel". The Obama Regime could not reshape the argument regardless of how many in his government, in Congress and MSM parrots brought out the talking points. You must engage with people on a visceral level. Education in most forms reverts back to the problem with Liberal Elites, not discussion, it's condescension.
A certain level of curiosity must exist in order for education to succeed. People don't have the attention span to engage in serious matters regarding breakfast cereal, they sure as Hell don't want to dedicate time toward Civics when American Idol is on in 14 minutes.
Just remember Adlai Stevenson's complaint about being the "Thinking Man's Candidate". Adjust exponentially.

A few rubber (toy) bullets should send them running.

The Tea Party is TOO grassroots, according to this, since anybody can claim to be a member of that party, but in this case, this same guy lost twice while running as a democrat in this very same district. You'd think there would've been some name recognition involved.
