It started out as a hobby, a way for the Dollarhite family in Nixa, Mo., to teach a teenage son responsibility. Like a lemonade stand.

But now, selling a few hundred rabbits over two years has provoked the heavy hand of the federal government to the tune of a $90,643 fine. The fine was levied more than a year after authorities contacted family members, prompting them to immediately halt their part-time business and liquidate their equipment.

The Dollarhite’s story, originally picked up by conservative blogger Bob McCarty, has turned into a call to arms for critics of the government’s reach and now has both Democratic and Republican lawmakers vowing to intervene.

John and Judy Dollarhite began selling rabbit meat by the pound in 2006, and as pets to neighbors and friends in 2008.

Nixa is north of us and south of Springfield, and it's now getting coverage in the local news. I think it started out as an animal cruelty investigation...but then...

There appears to be a motive behind this now. Dollarhite may be a political pawn to push new horse legislation. Recently it became illegal to slaughter horses in the United States. The USDA is pushing to give horses pet status, and the USDA may be building cases against small American hobbyists to push their way into the horse industry for further regulation into the massive horse industry, which includes horse racing. He may be a pawn to influence case law so the USDA can justify further control over the horse industry.

What are the recommended ways to butcher, dress and cook PETA people? Any good recipe books out there? (http://www.conservativecave.com/Smileys/default/fuelfire.gif)

First you have to clean and dress them...I recommend a steam cleaner and acid to cleam them, then dress in  a suit and tie... or evening grown if female.

Is there an easy way to determine what sex (gender) they are?

Females have a large clit and a pair of balls in their purse...men, smooth as ...as ....well smooth as the Barbie dolls they play with.

Interesting so why in some states is it a felony to photograph Puppy Mills.????

Are they saying that if one breeds rabbits, kills them and sells the hide then all is OK as long as the meat is not sold?????

In New Hampshire it is legal to raise dogs for human food, I would think the pelts would also be for sale.   I do not know about cats and the pelt industry but we can raise pigs, cows, sheep, chickens and Mink for the market., we can run a trap line for beaver, otters, fox and wild dogs or coyotes and wolves. We can hunt bears, moose, deer. squirrels etc no problem.

These people are being used by the folks that object to horse meat.   Some how they are going to twist around people that raise rabbits to make sure that horses go to the Glue Factory and not end up as dog food.------Or to experimental labs to used as Guinna Pigs for research.
