South Carolina governor signs voter photo ID bill

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) – Governor Nikki Haley on Wednesday signed into law a bill that requires voters to show photo identification at the polls, making South Carolina the tenth state to adopt such legislation.

The measure landed on the Republican governor's desk after state senators voted 26-16 last week to concur with the House of Representatives bill, which requires people to show a driver's license, military identification or passport along with their voter registration card when they vote.

Those who don't have a photo ID must obtain a new voter registration card that includes a photo. A birth certificate or passport can be used to prove identity.

"If you can show a picture to buy Sudafed, if you can show a picture to get on an airplane, you should be able to show a picture to make sure that we do what is incredibly inherent in our freedoms and that is the ability to vote," Haley said at the signing ceremony in Columbia.

2. What a dumbass, not everyone flies and not everyone buys Sudafed

I hope a class action suit follows

I figure if you are too stupid to have any kind of ID then you aren't smart enough to vote.
Hell you have to an ID to get a job, cash a check, or buy beer and cigarettes.
For people who whine about voter fraud you should be for this. Now us repukes can only vote once.  :lmao:

Democrats don't own cars or earn paychecks.

Some of them do.

I was behind a car this afternoon with a bumper sticker which read, "I vote for the kids".  It's alllll  about the children.

Donna Brazille is firing the first shot at ACTUALLY having to prove who you are to vote from the fascist party. They must be really scared that the voter fraud is only going to add 4-6 points instead of 10-12.  Obama's internals must look terrible. The child president spiked the Osama for a straight week and one week later he is back under water.

"I vote like a kid" would be more appropriate.

I have to show photo ID when I vote here and have for quite a while. In my mind it's just a good thing to do.

How can anyone seriously argue with proving who they are? Nevermind....I knew before I asked...

I guess the days of hopping on a union bus, voting at 20 precincts for a free sack lunch are over.

Curse you, Voter ID!

And yet all of DU would flee to Canada in a heartbeat if the nation would have them.. funny that..

Seriously though - as long as a photo ID is provided free of charge by the state to anyone who requests it, there can be nothing negative said about it.. Yet they do their damnedest to equate Voter ID to a 'poll tax'.. and racism.   :whatever:

...Because those damned 'kkkameras' wont take a picture of anyone who happens to be the wrong color.

I pulled out my ID in Nevada during the November 2010 elections.  The poll worker told me to put it away.  She told me my ID was not necessary.  I was shocked, because I could have sworn I had to show my photo ID in Wisconsin in 2004.  I wasn't even aware that most states didn't require photo ID to vote UNTIL the 2010 election.

They should vote for the kids to have opportunity. Not simply to be wage slaves to support SS and ObamaCare.

The photo ID laws are why democrats in every state have been trying to get drivers' licenses for illegal mexicans.

Considering how much kids today owe even before they crown, maybe Planned Parenthood could rebrand itself as a debt solution service.

Huh?  Aren't they helping to increase the per child debt by eliminating so many potential tax payers?

Most of the ones they're eliminating would have grown up to be democrats, not taxpayers.

No shit. If a bunch of people are voting, and they don't have to prove they're eligible to vote, doesn't that disenfranchise you as an eligible voter?

We don't call'em DUmmies for nothing, Compaq.

Next on the agenda should be the elimination of same day registration.

There needs to be some way to stop snowbirds and students from being able to vote in two places.

Id say Voter ID is a good place to start. If every state sets up its own system, it should be possible to flag possible duplicate registrations through an interstate network, and the states involved can investigate further to determine if there is a duplicate registration, and if it should be purged.

Voter ID would also help identify same day registration fraud, when the person shows up at eight different precincts to vote, and each one of those registrations gets flagged. Since the state would have the voter ID data, finding the person afterward would be far easier than it is now (impossible)

I've voted in every election held in Virgiinia (one a year) since I was old enough to vote in 1977.

I've had to show ID of some form each and every time.

I guess we were "ahead of the curve".

And they call Southerners "stupid".   :rotf:

I believe that Scott Walker is going to go for ending the same day registrations.  Good move.

I do not think that is required because you can use other means for ID, power bill for example. The last time I voted I showed my DL because it makes the poll workers job easier.

The State Senate of WI is supposed to vote on a voter ID bill later today.

I read some of the comments and I think the liberals are upset. :lmao:

Word of advice to the DUmmies: Maybe if you got a haircut and cleaned up a little bit you wouldn't be so worried about taking such a bad picture for your photo ID.

This isn't very relevant to this topic, but in Las Vegas currently, we have a really annoying commercial.

The commercial is a bunch of elementary school aged kids with a white background.  The camera flashes to each one separately saying things like, "Why do you want to fire my teacher?"  or "Why won't you raise taxes for us to have a better education."  and "Don't you care?"  Something to that effect.  I'm waiting to see it on TV again so I can find the online version of it.

Today, two states.

November 2012, the Senate and White House.

Must suck BIG time to be a liberal.

And if it doesn't now, give it about 18 months.   :evillaugh:

The whining, bitching, moaning, etc. by the left will be almost deafening.  Pure heaven.   O-)
