My room mates notebooks anti-virus program won't allow access to DU
Yesterday, I tried to get on the DU on my room mates notebook. It's a rather small machine, something called 'Eee' and she received it as a gift from her sister to keep in touch. She has got it hooked up with a wi-fi connection, and frankly, it is so fast that I even thought of buying one as a backup for quick internet. That is, until I tried to navigate over to the DU and was greeted with the message that "Trend Micro Security considers this site to be dangerous" and said that it was a "fraud and a scam". This is the virus protection that comes with this notebook, from the manufacture. My room mate says that she is "very concerned that her notebook seems to have a political agenda". Needless to say that I will not be buying this device.

It has to be the fault of the Koch Brothers and or the Walton family.
-
lets see :
Odds that a room full of liberals has at least one person harboring a virus ~100%
Odds that any website soliciting donations to win an iPad2 is a scam ~75%
Odds that a message board full of liberals has at least one conversation actively endorsing fraud ~%100%
Viruschecker seems to be working just fine.

Now that is hilarious. Our server netnanny software at work won't let me go to DU, or CC for that matter, but I ain't never had any trouble with an antivirus or spyware at home.

Smart anti-virus program.

I have an EEE PC and it doesn't come with an AV program on it.
Buy one and put whatever program you want on it moron.

:catfight:
TrendMicro is crap. Everybody knows that.

When I went to see Sarah Palin, somebody in the unruly liberal mob who showed up to shout her down started throwing hunks of cheese at us. I'll never buy that brand of cheese again /DU non sequitur mode

Your DU name is icymist?

His room mate should take that computer to the laundry mat, and then go to the air port.

That is EPIC! A "fraud and a scam"?!? Who would have thought?

So....
Where HAS BadCat been?
:-)

I have an Eee right here, and it can get to DU just fine, it doesn't want to, that's all.

Don't you mean "THE DU"?

You mean the OP could be making a false statement?
-
Why was the DUmmie using their computer anyway? The friend probably got tired of clearing out viruses and malware the DUmmies gets on their laptop and set the antivirus to block the one site the DUmmie couldn't live without. That is the one site other than pron sites.
-
Sheesh. Some people.
Add an exclusion or reflag the site as safe.
I swear the technical competency level of these people is lower than that of a retarded gibbon.
-
Using the roomates connect??
Parasite!

2. I'll let her know about those.
She's not exactly computer literate, and sometimes, I'm not even sure about computer things. I mostly rely on the nice young man at Staples to help me out. Besides, it's her notebook. What concerns me is that this program is from the manufacture, put into a device that is only $250.00 in price and will be the only device that a lot of people can afford.
[/b]
Why not add a slam to the evil capitalists to the tale. Always a secondary agenda with DUmmies.
-

Not after Obama's food and gas.
"Fraud and a Scam." Too F'in funny! :lmao:
But at any rate, I object to the unnecessary insult directed to retarded gibbons on these very pages. Cease and desist.

I was going to mention that this morning, but the damned computer was balking at actually loading any pages. :banghead:

Now Karin and BSS, to be completely fair here, he did not actually equate the DUmmorrhoids to retarded gibbons, he placed them below retarded gibbons, but didn't really say just how far below. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt, and take that as meaning a very great distance indeed.

Point taken. :o
I love your new adjective--"DUmmorroids." It fits them so well. H5 issued.

Some clarification is clearly in order here.
The intellectual difference between a retarded gibbon and a "DUmmorrhoid" is approximately the same as the difference between Einstein and cinder blocks.

That's why I got rid of the "trial" version of McAfee on my laptop and installed BitDefender. No problems with it at all.

How would you recommend he make his way there? I was going to suggest horse back, the rail road, or he could have one of his friends push him there in a wheel barrow.

It would be quicker in an auto mobile, or even an air plane.

I got rid of Windows on most of the computers here, which had the side-effect of solving the virus issue.

I made the mistake of letting someone use my netbook unsupervised and they immediately went out and got something nasty. The side effect of removal was that I needed to reinstall windows. After some careful consideration I downloaded an ubuntu image and put that on because imaging the restore DVD and getting it to boot correctly from a flash drive seemed too much pain in the ass.

Yeah, Ubuntu is my distribution of choice. As for me, I just got sick of Windows unraveling over time. Unless one is using their PC to play a lot of installable games (web based flash games work just fine), there is really no reason to not use Linux at this point.

That is where I am headed. I have to use Windows for some work at home, but I am going to set aside some space for Ubuntu to start learning.

My PC is Dual-booting - meaning at startup I can choose to run Windows if necessary. Also, since I have a Core2 Quad, I have enough power to run a virtual machine, meaning that while running Linux, I can open up a software Based PC, and run Windows that way - then close the whole thing like any other application. Ubuntu is a good direction to go in - its well seasoned & easily managed by newbs - yet can be altered and customized by the experienced.

Continuing the derailment.....my BF is going to set up a similar situation for me. I don't know all of the "technical stuff" but, that basically sounds like what my set up will be sometime soon.

Good good - and you know what you are going to learn ? Your PC running Ubuntu will be significantly faster than the same exact hardware running Windows. Good Luck with it. After its set, any questions, just send me a PM.

That is exactly what I understand. I bought this ASUS with Vista installed and upgraded to Windows 7. The primary reason why I have decided to learn something new is all because of speed. I HATE friggin updates.
I will most certainly keep you in mind if I have any questions. Thanks! :cheersmate:
