Post by: Gina on May 11, 2011, 08:13:19 AM
Got a call from my old gov't job to come interview tomorrow at 8am!!!   159 applicants and they chose 3 to interview.  I am the only one that knows that dept back and forth so I might have a good lead on it.  WISH ME LUCK PLEASE!!!

You got it girly!  Do I have to put my whole morning aside tomorrow, to help you figure out what to wear?

 :-)

You could just make it easy on us and wear exactly what you did to the last one.

Hey now!  I was the best damn worker there.  I actually showed up to work on time, even early.  I helped the tax payer's/911 non stop and enjoyed doing it and I never thought I needed more money.  I never joined the union, I was a scab and I never acted like a gov't worker.  I was given Employee of the Quarter out of 4k employee's and received Employee of the month 4 times in the 5 years I was there.

I relished on the fact that I was not another gov't worker.  I worked my ass off and hope I get to again :-)

Yep, a typical goverment worker.  Though unless you have a fat ass, I would be careful on working it into a 90 year old mans ass.  Nobody likes someone without an ass.............hell it's just not natural.  Just some advice from one goverment worker to hopefully a reurning goverment worker.

Hell it only took me 10 years to get my goverment job :banghead:

I am sure! the only thing they don't want is my bluntness.  They didn't like that before.

I had a grievance filed against me by some union puke there.  Get this.  In the hearing he said that while everyone else on the elevator said "Good morning" and carried on, I never said good morning to anyone and I never looked at anyone.  I looked him straight in the eye and said "I don't come to work to make friends, I come to work".  Can you believe they actually let that hearing go on?  :lmao:  Nothing else going on at the company but a woman that can't stand to hear a bunch of cackling in a 5x6 elevator in the morning.  Stupid union assholes.

I also got in trouble one time because I made my very own blueprint copy.  You see, that's Patricia's union job and by me running my very own copy I am infringing on her job description.  She failed to tell everyone that she is never at her station so she can run these copies.

I hate unions. :argh:  will not join one for the life of me!

anyway, hair is up in curlers and I sit here with pants on demarking my Chaps heels :naughty:

There is one constant in the government/corporate/union/bureaucratic world (as explained to me by a very astute, very wise, and very accurate friend some years ago) ---

Competency and efficiency will NOT be tolerated.

I got fired some years ago because I had an issue with a temp worker who made a habit out of texting her boyfriend endlessly while on the job. She didn't like it when I called her on it and made her do shit she didn't want to do. At the end of this bullshit charade, I was the one who got canned -- not the young, nubile, very pretty chick who knew how to bat her eyes and work the system.

But, anyway, GOOD LUCK, GINA! Kick some ass and don't look back!!

I think the interview went well.  260 applicants and they are interviewing 6.  I won't have to be trained on alot of the software so that is a plus.  Only negative and it didn't affect me before there but I had a dui when I was a teen and I hate always mentioning that on an interview.  I don't even think it shows up anymore but I always mention it.

Anyone know how long that stuff stays on your record?

Off to field work.  Thar's a sewer waiting on me  :fuelfire:

Personally, I would appreciate your honesty about the teenage incident, and not hold it against you at all.  Look at who else is in government these days.  Barack Obama wouldn't be able to pass a security clearance, given all his best buds blowing up government buildings and all.

Unionized office workers....that's the worst!   :banghead:  It's not like they're miners asking for safety precautions and such.  My first job out of college was at a papermill in Maine, and they just love their unions.  The company had to fight for the right for accountants to enter their own numbers in spreadsheets.  Can you imagine?  We'd all sit around staring at the wall if we couldn't monkey around with our own spreadsheets.  Data entry...one little old lady had the monopoly on entering journal entries into the mainframe.  Zzzzzzzzz  took forever.

I worked at Talbot's catalog center, years ago, before I went into real estate. Talbot's isn't unionized...but owned by the Japanese...which gives new meaning to "toeing the corporate line".

Our phone calls were monitored at least 3x's a month. One day I was called into the GM's office. My supervisor, who was black, and a very very nice woman, had turned me in for "racist comments" in a call that she had taped for monitoring.

I had told a woman from NYC, that Knoxville didn't have much ethnicity when it came to restaurants, we didn't have any Jewish or real Italian delis, and I missed being able to go to them. She had told me that she and her husband had visited here, and thought it was really pretty...they were thinking about retiring down here or in the Carolinas...and that evolved into a quick discussion about museums, cultural opportunities, shopping and restaurants.

I was told that my actions would be written up and put in my permanent file, this was my first warning, and that if I was overheard to make any more racist remarks, I would be fired. Yes, the GM had listened to the tape.

I took a 3 month leave of absence the next week and went to real estate school, got my license, signed up with an agency and then turned in my resignation. Again, I was called into the GM's office. "Why are you leaving? You have such a future here!"

I figured that telling someone who was making about 5 or 6x's the salary I was, that she needed to improve her vocabulary skills, was a waste of breath....

Good on you, deb!

Still trying to figure out how describing a lack of ethnic deli's in Knoxville, and missing it, could possibly be construed as being racist.......

Depends. In WI it used to be 10 years but I think they upped it to 20 for DUI.

We also have the ability to look up that kind of information using CCAPs. It is an online site for the state of WI to look up circuit court decisions. If you were living in WI would just type in your name (or anyone else) and it would spit out all the times you went to court or paid a traffic citation processed thru a circuit court.

Me neither. I was stunned when I got called in...but then when she told me why I was called in, I was speechless...something very unusual for me!

I figured that neither my supervisor, nor the GM(who was white) - who were both college graduates, and both younger than me - had any clue what "ethnicity" meant!  :thatsright:

I was also so angry, when she told me the "incident" would go into my permanent file...it really was best that I kept my mouth shut.

I had to go in on my "last" day, for an exit interview. One of the things I was asked....was why I was leaving? And I was asked to fill out a thing that asked a bunch of questions about my "experience working for Talbot's". I declined to fill it out, and just said that I was going in to real estate for a more flexible schedule. Thought it was better to take the "high road"....

Exit interviews -- I don't trust the bastards to do the right thing with the information.

I agree with you in principle -- just part ways in a faux amicable manner, because bitching about shit isn't going to fix things anyway.

Where are you with this kind of thing, Tots? You bein' in HR an' all.....

It's a waste of time.  I have conducted some exit interviews, and have sent them out to be anonymously mailed.  No one that needs to takes them seriously at all.  Which is quite unfortunate.  I have never, ever seen anything addressed from one.

If you've taken it and passed it before, what has changed between then and now? Or are you just exhibiting some completely normal, standard, expected butterflies?

Seems to me if taking that test and passing it was such a huge, huge deal, they'd have you take it BEFORE offering the job -- just to make sure you've jumped all the hurdles, dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's.

Gina, just what the hell of a job are you going to be doing that after 6 months you cannot be fired ???

Is this State or Federal job,----- darn we can fire the President after 4 years but you now can get life time job  security after just 6 months ??

Say girl, work the system, go by the laws  put in place to protect you.   Keep up the good work and cover your back, work with the system , politic if you must, get to be friends with the movers and shakers, I think we are all proud of you, who knows just how far you can go.

I have seen a young man start of as a mail man go to becoming mayor of their town.

vesta, it's a gov't job so I would have to kill someone or call someone a "N" to get fired.  I worked there before and moved up 3 pay grades in 5 years so I definetly excel in this line of work.  Going in as a grade 6 and hope to get to a grade 11 within 2 years.  Goes up to a grade 18.  I do mapping/surveying.

Gina are you working for the county? My dad worked for the county for almost 40 years before retiring about 3 years ago. Feel free to PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting.
