From personal experience it is not:
Ford F-150
Lincoln LS
GMC Sierra
Chevy Blazer
Dodge Diplomat
Chevy Citation
Oldsmobile Delta 88
AMC Spirit

My Grandad had a Citation!

FWIW, I never even considered the type of car as criteria when dating a man.  Hell, I drove an Aspire for a while, who am I to judge?

However, in retrospect, I think that dating the 28 y/o who had to borrow a car from his Mom was a mistake.   :thatsright:

My aunt had the Citation-based Buick Skylark... she won it in some sweepstakes.

I thought it was a nice car at the time, but I was nine.

The LS is a nice car.
The Dodge was a brick. The LS was great but had two major problems.

One, it was worth crap trying to go anywhere in the winter. I had trouble in the snow if it was deeper than 2".
Two, the tires were debris magnets. I had to replace tires twice and repair a bunch holes over the 2+ years I had it. Strangest thing pulled out of the tires was a punch.

That's a rather obscure car.  Ford didn't make that one for very long, did they?

There's a reason for that.  It ASPIRED to be a car.  Dang thing was given to me for free, and I needed a car.  Half the key was broken in the ignition, the trunk wouldn't open, and the passenger door could not be unlocked from the outside.  There was a screwdriver that had to stay in the gear box, otherwise it would go into park anywhere.  The cup holder was directly horizontal from the tape player, so if I stopped really fast my drink would go right in.

And, it was metallic turquoise green with pink stripes.  I hated that car.

You should read this... Capsule Review: 1995 Ford Aspire (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/07/capsule-review-1995-ford-aspire/)

Everybody here already knows what I'm driving.  I'm available. :naughty: :rotf:

I keep washing that BMW, but it never seems to get any cleaner.  I did replace the dented hood.

I want a man that drives a manly vehicle.  There is this guy at my son's school that drives a red Ford Explorer.  I call him ***** boy as that is how I see him driving that vehicle.  Let me see a man in a miata and I think gay or ***** boy.

Same when I see some of these women around here trying to be all badass and buying a truck.  They have to make sure you know they are driving a truck by putting a bumper sticker on it that says "Silly boys, trucks are for girls".  Lady, I didn't need the bumper sticker to know a female was driving a truck, your swerving all over the road and timid driving did it. :bird:

  :lmao:

I was raised in a small town, 3 stoplights that blink, blink, blinked yellow after 10 PM. Dude from out of town started hanging around with some of us country boys that wasn't quite in with the uptown "in" crowd but wasn't on the outs with them either. He was driving a 1951 Dodge Coupe. He was clean cut and reasonable to look at. The snotty uptown girls turned their noses up at him because of the car he drove. And I guess his choosing to hang with us country boys had some to do with their rejection.

He started dating this country gal that wasn't accepted by the "in" crowd. She to wasn't in nor out with the "in" crowd, just sort of endured by them. She was a really nice girl, sort of plain Jane-ish but not fat or skinny and not ugly by any means. She was a step or two below cheerleader class you might say.

Came the big night for some kind of social event where all the "in" crowd girls would come out or something. I don't remember what it was all about but the "in" crowd girls were a little perturbed because some how, god forbid, the country gal was going to be there too.... :lmao:...then things got interesting. The out of town dude showed up with the country gal in of all  things a bottle green 1962 Jaguar XKE coupe.. DAMN what a sharp car! He had taken country gal to the big city beauty parlor to get gussied up and then to the best clothing store in the state to get her an evening grown...she was the best looking thing there....queen of the ball.... :lmao: I understand that heads were exploding and doing 360's all night long.... :lmao:

Out of town dudes dad was filthy rich. From that time on when out of town dude came to town he would be in the XKE and the "in" crowd girls would curse and spit and sputter...  :lmao: Out of town dude was tired of the "in" crowd kind of people he had to associate with so he had came to our town to hang out. It all had a fairy tale story ending. They got married and lived happily ever after....and have got umpteen grandkids and I hear they've started on great grandkids.

So, you can take the fancy car now and probably get a lemon or take the lemon now and maybe get a fancy ride later.

I was driving a blood red 4-door GMC dually when I got the current wife. Hey, at the time I had more uses for that truck than I had for a wife... :rotf:

When I finally went out and bought a car, I traded it in.  In August.  The AC didn't work either. The salesman who test drove it was not impressed, but I got $500 on it, and LAUGHED.

Which one?????

Well, I guess you could almost say both.  I bought it because I've always wanted one and this one was 9K below book.  It gets me to work and back, hauls whatever I need to haul, is plush on the inside, and is one powerful beast that will go through just about anything (mud, snow, ice, etc).

Looking really cool is an added bennie.

Anytime I see a guy in a tiny car or convertible (even mustangs) I think GHEY!!!!!!  I hate tiny cars.  You look like you are in a tin can, your ass is about 2" from the road, and if a truck hits you, you are a total goner.  I like 300s, SUVs, trucks, el caminos, full size sedans, and hot rods.  I hate Jeep Wranglers.  I see them and I think irresponsible deadbeats.  No idea why though.

Maybe if you didn't need a fat car for your fat ass, people who choose to drive smaller cars would be safer on the road.  I hate being surrounded by SUVs because everybody thinks they need one.

Also, girl + Jeep Wrangler = probably a lesbian.

My sister used the same kind of rationale in buying an SUV (which she needs about as much as I need a half gallon of ice cream right now), that "she can't see over the SUVs in front of her."

Gawd.  :banghead:

Here's an interesting bit of history... GM sold intermediate/mid-size Chevelles and Malibus in Europe as full-size Opels in the 60's and 70's.  Same car, different perspective.

I prefer smaller cars myself.  Much better handling IMHO.  Wish I could convince my BF to let me drive his Mini, but no luck.  Something about his clutch costing a brazillion dollars or something.  Whatever.

I have never thought a guy's choice of a car was a reason to or not to date them. I did have a step sister who based her dating on the kind of car the guy drove. Took her two marriages to figure out that was not a good criteria.  ::)

According to my son, I am basically illiterate when it comes to cars. If Wasp's truck hadn't had the Chevy thing on the front grill, I wouldn't have known what it was except an extended cab truck.

I do like SUV's and have driven one for the last 13 years. And yes, Euph, I do because I can see over the steering wheel and front of the car, without looking like I'm sitting in a booster seat.  Since I can't parallel park worth a flip, it isn't an issue with the size of the car. And I do like to be able to see ahead of me on the road, and I don't like being able to see the underside of a semi that's driving next to me.

Besides being able to see over the front end, my first question to a car salesman,  is always: what's going to happen if I'm hit head-on? Then I look for a car that I like the color, it has a moon-roof, it doesn't have a gray or black interior, and whether on not my tush sits comfortably in the driver's seat - that will heat up. Other than that...I don't really care.

I'm 6'4" and the legs are getting stiff. I cannot get in an out of these modern Butt-draggers without pain. That's why I drive a pkup truck.

Let's see -- you've talked whined at length about the shitty mileage your Jeep gets -- something like 20 or 21 mpg.

What is it you're putting in your Jeep these days? Besides gas, of course.  :lmao:

I can't tell you what cars attract women, but I can tell you what the cars I own attract:

MGB: Young women, drunk 20 something guys, and old men who wear wool sport jackets, and typically smell on pipe tobacco and cough syrup.

Volvo 240:  Old women who have way too many cats.  I've had a lot less customers on this one, after I slapped a few bumper stickers on it.

Volvo 850:  Ricers, and guys in pickup trucks wanting to race.

240Z:  People of both sexes and all ages seem to like this car; sort of an all-star.

Dodge D100 Sweptline:  Guys with beards, and girls in tank tops.  Or, maybe I just hang around guys with beards, and girls that wear tank tops.  Who knows.  I haven't had this one long enough to make an educated statement.

I got the same reaction with my '82 280ZX.  I haven't had the '83 long enough to gauge what kind of attention it draws.  Maybe it was the loud exhaust leak, the ratty body work, or the unfortunate purple color.

The dark grey '82 seemed to gather a lot more attention than the smaller '83.  Too bad it was a rustbucket.

You've got a "man card"?

 :rotf: :lmao:

Yup--mine has my name on it--you may NOT use this one:

But I DID find a picture of you:

Well, Spark, my good buddy:

I guess this is where you and I part company.

I've never needed a man card. Never had one anyway. You're undoubtedly asking, "Why?"

Because I don't have a burning need to drive a Jeep to prove my manhood.

I drive the vehicle that works for me.  ;)

Does Obama have a "man card" and when will he show it?

I think they were all season. At $200+ a tire having 2 sets was more than I could afford.  :bawl:
Snow tires are relatively cheap... $50 a tire for some brands.

I'm kicking myself for not buying some when I should have. :banghead:

My first mud/snow tires were recaps and cost $7.95 each put on.

That has been aaaaaaaaawhile ago.

I certainly don't drive it to prove my manhood, that's for sure.  Tell me how that ****ing rolling pregnant rollerskate you drive handles 2 feet of snow, though.

And as far as "man card", it's an EXPRESSION.  A figure of speech.  Not meant to be taken literally.  You know, Army guy--words...those things you have to use around HUMANS.

Not VW Jetta's for sure....

or...

Chevy Optras, Chevy Cavillers, Reanult 5's, Ford Rangers, VW Golfs, Any Volvo Ever produced and any car I've ever owned with (possibly) the exception of a BMW 325 I owned in the late 90s.

I'm beginning to see that the only constant factor in this equation might be you....

Well, I've had that pregnant roller skate in two feet of snow -- not just here in MO, but in NE OH, where lake effect snow is a real bitch. Never been stuck. Next question on vee-hick-culls?  :lmao:

Well, your "expression" or "figure of speech" or "symbol of repressed manhood not to be taken literally" is something that you find completely necessary, idn't it?  :rotf:

If it isn't necessary, why are you bringing it up?

 :rotf: :lmao:

Sparks, thanks for making my day. I haven't laughed this hard in weeks.  :-)

Best "car" I ever had for going in snow was a 1961 COMET station wagon....6 cyl, auto trans. There were 6 of us carpooling back in the late 60's when we had a 2 foot wet snow. It was a 40 mile trip to work and we always took the back way to work. We were the only car to go down that road that night. We had to stop and break the top out of pine trees a few times but we made it when others didn't. We usually alternated days driving but I drove that whole 7 day shift.

Yeah, I declined a second date with a guy because he didn't have a car. That and the fact that he brought up his ex-girlfriend fairly frequently during our lunch.

I doubt that anything would want to turn into a GM piece of shit, particularly nowadays. My Honda has yanked full size 4/4 vehicles out of the ditch and from snowbanks.

Far be it from me to get intertwined in Truck Wars (after all, I drive just a ***** mini-van, a "pregnant roller skate" (  :rotf: )) according to some, but as Government Motors can't seem to stop playing the shell game with taxpayer money (according to Sen. Charles Grassley, R-IA), and as the government still owns Government Motors preferred stock, it kinda looks like the Chapter 11 reorganization that GM went through still hasn't quite gotten the gubmint out of the auto manufacturing business.

My money's on Honda.

Go get 'em, CG! (Need a tow chain, by any chance?)    :-)

Supposedly, GM is adding 4200 jobs in 8 different states. Saw it on local tv news, the other day, because jobs are going to added at the Spring Hill plant.

Found this article about it...says they will rehire laid-off workers first. Should help people in Michigan and Cleveland OH areas.

Impressive.

Can it tow 5k pounds 425 miles (quite a bit of which are over the Appalachians) at 60 mph (average) on one tank of gas?

I'm not telling anyone what to do. I looked around for a long time and Chevy, Ford and Chrysler didn't have what I wanted and needed. (I wouldn't own a Chevy or a Chrysler anyway.)
