Title: 137th Kentucky Derby
Post by: Odin's Hand on May 06, 2011, 03:38:47 PM
Here are the superfecta favorites in order from best to least at roughly 25 hours to go.

I'm going with Midnight Interlude to take the roses.

Or not... Uncle Mo is out with a stomach ailment.

I'm going with Midnight Interlude now. Might go to the track on Saturday for a day of racing and bet on the Derby.

I don't have a clue about horse racing, but I do remember when Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973.

A great movie came out just about a year or so ago based on that horse. Amazing animal. The track records set by Secretariat at  both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes still stand today.

Yeah. It was good. I had $5 on Nehro to win and $10 on Midnight Interlude to Win or Place... Shoud have switched those. At least I had better luck with the ponies at Lone Star.

Greatest race horse ever. I just read that book. When he won the Belmont, he was speeding up every quarter; Turcotte said he just held on and let him go.
I have an Appaloosa with the Secretariat line. His first test foal was out of an Appy mare.

It was as if Velasquez hit an afterburner on the horse at the top of the stretch, and AK took a bit of time for it to kick in.

Secretariat is the greatest horse that ever lived, IMO.  When he died, the autopsy revealed that his heart was twice the size of a normal thoroughbred's.  Translation--it's as if you had a 6-cylinder Mustang on the line against a Boss 302 'Stang.  No contest.  Though, Secretariat's one loss occurred about four miles from where I grew up.

Animal Kingdom was never even on my radar.  And, I was at the track watching morning workouts last Tuesday.  I saw him in the post parade on TV and thought, "Uh oh... I missed a dandy there."

So, I guess I'll go to my day job!
