Title: I've had enough of this "I hate SoCal" shit - especially you, Sparky
Post by: The Hollywood NeoCon on May 05, 2011, 04:07:24 PM
Granted, I haven't been here as long as most of you, but I've gotten pretty sick and tired of the web meme that somehow, Californians are somehow incapable of sharing conservative values.

Well, guess what? There were plenty of you that voted against the Mocha Messiah, despite the fact that you lived in states that the sumbitch carried anyway, just as there are lot more of us out here than you might think.

I was born in Chicago (yet another liberal bastion), but I found my dream out west. Yeah, we've had our silliness (as is evidenced by the last couple of videos), but you know what? I love my state, and I love the people I grew up with and continue to share my dream with, silliness and all. I love my fellow Californians, and while I may not have the moral and intellectual authority of those in Montana or any other state that would sooner kill themselves then vote for a Democrat, I am not about to apologize for the idiots out here that somehow just don't get it yet. They may never get it, but I'll be damned if I start looking at the sky each night and wishing I were somewhere else.

This is my family's home, and where my children are being raised to see the infinite possibilities of their lives as Americans. The day I apologize for being a Californian is the day I start blaming everyone else for my problems, and that's purely a DUmmie approach.

Seriously, why would any person yearning to be a free citizen deliberately choose to live in CA (or HI, or a few others not nmed in the OP)?

Why would anyone with a family, wishing to provide them with a healthy environment and a strong moral foundation, ever bring them within visual range of LA or SF?

I just don't get it.

To give HNC some credit, he is living where he can earn money doing something he likes.

Ya know what, HNC?  I am a very rare breed indeed--that of the NATIVE Californian.  Yes, say that word again, "NATIVE."  Allow it to roll off the tongue.  That means I know how California USED to be, what it was before it became a giant pool of tanned and botoxed shit, where the three most important words are 1--ME, 2--ME, 3--ME.

I remember days when you could actually get on a freeway between the hours of 7am to 10 am, or 3 pm to 8 pm, and not worry about how many "Sigalerts" you'd encounter between you and your 10-miles distant destination, or whether or not it would take more than an hour.  I never worried about whether or not some asshole would go road rage on my ass for some transgression, real or perceived.  I never worried about being ass-ended by some ****er who would either 1--run off because they had no driver's license insurance, 2--plead, "no habla" and of course have no license or insurance.

I remember the California of the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, and The Mamas and the Papas, not the one of Tupac, Snoop Dogg, The Offspring, and a hundred other angry, angst-ridden memes.

I remember unbridled hedonistic liberalism was confined to a few bastions in Hollywood, San Francisco, etc, and the rest of the state was steadfastly conservative.  Now there's a very good reason why it's called, "The Orange Curtain."  California has gone from the land of Nixon and Reagan to the land of Babs Boxer, Governor Moonbeam (again, REALLY?) and Botox San Fran Nan.

I remember when jobs were plentiful and paid well, if not luxuriously.  The middle class could exist, and indeed thrive.  These days a seven-figure home is what most people in flyover country refer to as "crackerbox."

Businesses were drawn to California by the eager, well-educated labor force.  Today they're driven out by the taxes and onerous regulation.

I remember when California was called, "The Golden State."  Today, the government--which the PEOPLE of California elect into office time and time again--has killed that golden entity.  The only glow coming from California these days is from your once vaunted paradise burning itself to the ground.

I remember a California where I thought I could spend my life, make a living, raising a family, growing old.  Then I woke up.  The best part of California I saw was five years ago, in my rear view mirror.

I'm told by my relatives, "Well, the weather is nice!"  Great--enjoy your sunshine while you starve, can't find a job, can't/won't leave, and are crushed by the oppression around you.

I "went Galt."  I kick Californians in the balls because I saw what California REALLY was even just a few short decades ago, and how it's fallen, and how it seems hell bent on falling farther still.  Like an alcoholic or drug-addicted family member, you feel sad, but deep down you know there's little if anything that can be done before they hit bottom.  I hear people bitch, then keep on doing the same shit that got them into the mess they're in.  I don't "hate" SoCal, dude.  I hate what it's become, because it really WAS better back in the day.  Here's hoping someone, ANYONE, can pull that place out of the nosedive, but as for me, I don't see it happening.  C'est la dommage, bud.

****in sad.

The weather is nice.  Except yesterday and today, it was so hot I had to turn on the air conditioner and the state doesn't have competition with their electric company so it cost and arm and leg.

As im sure you are aware, comperable housing is three times (at least) what it is in the DFW area (and we live in a much cheaper area than you probably do).

The fee to license your car every year is about 9 times what it is in Texas (it cost me $70 a year in Texas for my new Infiniti FX, it cost around $650 here in CA). The roads aren't any better.  On top of all that, if you move here with a new car that is less than a year old you have to pay CA tax AGAIN or if you lease a car you have to add tax on top of your monthly car payment even though you came from a state where it's already figured into your payment. It's a friggen rip off.

We paid $35k in state taxes this past year (no state taxes in Texas), more the previous year. The people running this state decided to "borrow" money interest free so now we pay over 10% in state taxes. Yeah you get some of it back when you file but the state gets to use it for a year with out having to pay you interest.

We paid over $10k in property taxes, I'm sorry but the schools are shit (and we live in a supposedly "great" school district).

Yeah you have a nice ocean and some mountains, some cool places to visit but I am so glad to get out of here. Maybe you are use to it but coming from someone who has lived here for two years and can't wait to get the hell out of here, you can keep your crappy state.

I hope you still love me in the morning.

Well we moved to CA for my husband's job. If this was the only state he could make enough money to live we would stay. The majority of jobs in his field happen to be in CA but he can find jobs outside of CA. That is why we decided to sell our house and get the heck out of dodge.

That really does matter.

Then I'm doing it wrong.

I'm in a place where I can be reasonably free and unmolested by perversion, and make enough money to live on doing something I don't really care for.

It's the freedom that matters to me, you see.

I hear ya.  I really do.  I am pretty much of the same ilk as you, I just don't live as far away from people as I want to at the moment.  For me, work is something I do to make money to do the things I want to.  There aren't many jobs available like what I have, and especially not away from people, so "Oh well for me."

Other people are gifted in such a way that they get to get paid doing what they LOVE.  Sometimes that equals out to a geographical sacrifice, but if you are a survivor, you do what you have to to make it work, regardless of where you live.

When I first got stationed in Ca., I remember how lax it was. It wasn't until after I left that things changed for the worse. Between all of the hedonists & the Reconquista movement, I can see where things have changed for the worst. Taxes & property costs were high, even back then. My saving grace was that I maintained my Texas residency & rented. The rent kicked my butt a few times, but once I got my budget in line, things were OK. I had a nice little 600 ft² duplex w/ a garage. Traffic was not always bad unless there was an accident with the exception of the Coronado Bridge, which had a toll on it back then. If two or more aircraft carriers were in Port, one could easily count on an half an hour bridge crossing time. Now that the toll is off, I'm sure it moves a lot better.

Sparky has this thing, he hates the State of California because it is becoming over crowded and the State of Maine because it is so undercrowded.  One can drive for 20-50 miles on dirt roads and never see a house of town.

Question is, what State does Sparkey think is ideal, what States meets his high faulting idea of flawless.??

vesta, are you a complete dumbshit or are you just being silly?

The man owns a house in NH, right? And he's on record in more than a few threads about his boundless love for that state and while he bitches and moans about the snow and the cold and the cost of heating oil ( :-) ), guess where he hangs his hat?

The old adage is true -- when Soldiers (and Sailors, btw) are bitching, that's when they're happiest.

Don't misinterpret that bitching for lack of "flawlessness".

I never said I hated Maine because it was undercrowded.

I hate Maine because it's full of mouth-breathing social reject ri-tards who live welfare check to welfare check, bitch that they don't get enough for sitting on their asses, and are way too close to NH for my liking.  Ask Scoobie how much fun she had at Market Basket the other day.

And Texas has it's problems, but yeah, I could totally see myself living there.  And Wyoming.  Love it there as well.  You wanna talk open space, vesta?  Try the drive between Cody and Cheyenne sometime.

But for now, I'll take New Hampshire.  Beats the shit out of anything I had 5 years ago.

I like Texas. New Mexico would be second, Oklahoma or Western Arkansas would be a close third and then, Minnesota. The worst things about Minnesota were six months of ****ing WINTER and all of the Libtards in the Metro area. Get out in the burbs or rural MN and it's quite nice. Also, it's a "shall issue" state. Good hunting & fishing up there, ja, you betcha, pie golly !!   :-)

That's what I get for living in the South I guess.

wonder how high pitched his voice is?    :o

Actually, my first thought was, "Damn!  That old bastard looks just like Ron Paul."

Mine too!  (What does that say about us?)

Allow me to extend an olive branch to HNC.  Look man, again, I don't "hate" California.  God knows I take enough shit for being from there.  I'm never gonna be part of "Red Sox Nation," a fact for which I thank God daily.

But I look at the changes just in the past 15-20 years (to say nothing of since the early 70's) and I'm absolutely saddened by the changes I've seen.  I see the exodus of idiots from CA to places like Nevada, Arizona, and Utah, and guess what they're turning to these days?

Again, I wish that I could wave a magic wand and make it better, but the state is going to have to go bankrupt before people wake up to the failure that is liberalism, and perhaps they won't even wake up then.  I know you're not the only conservative person in California, believe me.

But I also know that conservatives outside of a few enclaves are hopelessly outnumbered, and given the emasculated entity that is the CA GOP, that isn't going to change anytime soon.  Look what the Assembly is doing, cutting off funding to districts of Republicans who don't play ball while gorging their own fat little piggies on the ever-dwindling tax base.

People talk about, "the big one," in terms of a natural disaster which will launch California into the ocean.  Me, I see something a lot worse--the implosion of the sixth-largest economy in the world, complete with the Greek-style riots (only worse) which will accompany it.  This is a disaster which will affect us all in ways we can't begin to imagine.  And woe be unto the idiotic CA politician (but I repeat myself) who thinks the Feds are going to bail them out.  Because if Governor Moonbeam thinks it's going to happen, he better up and declare right now because as of 1/20/13 they're going to be told to pound ****ing sand.  And if they do, future historians will point to that day as the day the Second American Revolution/Civil War began.  I don't want that either, because I know in my heart of hearts that if it DOES happen, it's gonna be a helluva lot worse than anyone wants to imagine.

All that being said, Dodgers ****ing suck.  Raiders suck worse.  And don't even get me started on their asshole fans.

To give HNC some credit, he is living where he can earn money doing something he likes.

Earning money enough to support oneself and one's family must be THE overriding consideration for anyone.  Unless they're DUmmies, of course.
No location on God's green Earth is perfect; the secret is to ferret out the treasures that abound there and make the most of them.  And to count the blessings, no matter how small.  For example, we always hated mowing the grass and now live in SE AZ, where yards are covered in gravel, not grass.  Sure, I miss the greenery, but I don't miss the weekly sweatfests! :cheersmate:

Sparky, don't leave Idaho and Montana out of the equation.  My in-laws are mighty upset with the influx of idiots jacking up the prices of everything from bread and butter to houses thanks to the CA invasion.  Of course, we in Arizona also bear this heavy burden.  Now, if somehow it were possible to segregate all the liberal morons in CA and let the conservatives OUT to more conservative states, that would be one thing, but liberals aren't happy ****ing up one state, they want to extend their slimy tentacles outward until they pierce the very heart of America.  Thanks to Obama, that is happening at a frightening rate.  I think overall I'm GLAD I'm 52 and will hopefully be dead before common sense TOTALLY is in this country.  OTOH I fear for the future for my children and grandson.

Yup--and outside NYC and LA, there ain't a whole lot of options for those who pursue HNC's chosen vocation.  I'm glad he's good at it, but were he here I'd ask him if he'd be just as happy doing it out in BFE (that's Bumfukt, Egypt for those not aware) with the rest of us shit-kickers if he could realize the same success as he does now.

As for me, I'm always going to be in demand.  I may not make huge bank, but I'll do alright, and the money is pretty much the same wherever I choose to pursue my career elsewhere.

I'm just glad I never took that job at Brown's Ferry.  First the tornadoes, then the "Red Finding" by the NRC today:

And back to our regularlly scheduled topic.
