Title: Stealth Helicopters used to get Bin Laden.
Post by: JohnnyReb on May 04, 2011, 07:12:56 PM
We may have lost something valuable to China in the Bin Laden operation....stealth helicopter technology.

There was a whisper of such a helicopter during Desert storm but never admitted too.

I saw that earlier on Drudge but at first I didn't quite know what I was looking at. Being an old helo mech myself I knew I was looking at a tail rotor, or something like a tail rotor and then it clicked. Holy shit! THAT is a stealth helo! Oh ****, that means the cat is out of the bag and they have it. ****. We also lost a F-117 over the balkans back in the '90s. Not good. No doubt those pieces are on their way to Beijing as we speak.

That thing doesn't look big enough to fly.  Look at the main rotors and the scale of the thing.  It looks like a toy. :(

Chris:  "That thing" is just the TAIL ROTOR of something larger.

Right, that's just the very last bit of the tail with the tail rotor and elevator, the little "wings" on the tail boom. They help to level the aircraft in flight and reduce the tendency for the tail to want to climb over the nose like a scorpion. This helo likely had main rotor blades like these which greatly reduce the audible signature of the aircraft.

It makes sense now that Osama bin Slapnuts & Co. didn't hear/see the SEALs coming until they were already assuming room temperature.

I live near an airport and a hospital.  Noisy helicopters fly near or overhead several times a week.  **** it.  Let everyone have the stealth helicopter technology so we can be rid of the damn noise pollution.

  I live between a fire house and a hospital.  Let me know when they develop a silent emergency alarm.

The article said that the ship is a modified Blackhawk.

EXTREMELY "modified"....... I've NEVER seen ANY helicopter with a "coolie hat" over the tail rotor. However, there seems to be a drive shaft (laying over the fence) going into an auxiliary gear box in that section.
