Obama invites Bush to ground zero. Bush declines. Per MSNBC just now.

LO just reported it. Said nothing more.

All of the replies are the typical Bush bashing.  I see it as President Bush being the gracious man that he has always shown himself to be.  I don't doubt that the cheers for him would be just as loud and raucous as the ones for ObeyWon.

Not in New York City. The catastrophe is ten years in the rear view mirror. There are very, very few decent people remaining in New York City, and the savages who are the preponderance of the population would have taken this opportunity to create a spectacle. Dubya was wise to take a pass.

Maybe, but I don't think that was his reason for declining.  He had said during his book tour, that he would not make many public appearances. He has refrained from criticizing ObeyWon even when criticism was well deserved.

Just yesterday, the Children where whining that if Bush showed up, his class and decorum would upstage the Obama. Now they feel the Obama has been slighted? They need to make up their mind. They need to apply for a mind.

My guess is that he doesn`t want to appear to make it into a political theater.
I believe he wants it to be respectful to those who died on 9/11.

8. He announced a month or two ago that he wasn't going to be making public appearances.

He knows his legacy is a ****ed-up economy, a ****ed-up foreign policy, two ****ed-up wars, and his own political party ****ed three ways to Sunday. He knows, deep down inside, that he is a failure. He knows, deep down inside, that brother JEB would have done a better job (but still ****ed up.) And he's afraid to show his face.

On edit: here's a link to his January announcement: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/28/bush-says... /
I think he knew that Pres. Obama was getting closer to getting OBL, even though it would be another 1-2 months before they started final preparations to run this op.

Sounds more like Obama, a ****ed up economy, ****ed up foreign policy, 3 ****ed up wars now with a possible 4th since we pissed off Pokistahn, his own political party ****ed up 4 ways to Sunday (remember the 2010 election).

12. you know what, I just think he is completely disconnected & disinterested anymore

he doesn't have the compunction or moral imperative for self reflection.

I think he is just totally "gone" from his former public life - it's too much cognitive dissonance for him.

Once again you are thinking of Obama, he just wants to play basketball and golf.

15. When O'Donnell said it, I suggested to my husband ...

That either he didn't want to play second fiddle or they figured they couldn't wring the booze out of him in just two days.

Yeah, it was a nasty thing to say -- but I swear it was the first thing that occurred to me.

Funny thing is, Obama's doctor advised that he cut down his alcohol intake, I don't recall Bush's doctor ever saying that.

18. But I thought Bush was responsible for OBL's death

Doesn't he want to party like it's 1599?

I'm certain if it backfires then all of a sudden the DUmp will be happy to blame Bush.

Personally I think Bush made a good call to let Barry have his moment in the spotlight. This isn't about any president, this is about the country and our brave service members who made this happen. If not for our military and our intelligence agencies then Obama would still be without a single success.

I'm thinking that we'll be seeing clips and quotes from his speech at Ground Zero sometime in 2012 during the run up to the election.  This is likely to be the only crown jewel in foreign policy for ObeyWon.

Gas prices will be $7 a gallon, unemployment will be 12%, I doubt Osama will be enough to help Obama.

Obama is a tin horn bully. He would do to Bush what he did to the Supreme Court Justices ant SOTU and what he did to Paul Ryan a few weeks ago. The little man would insult Bush when he could do anything about it. Obama has some very troubling character issues that would have made him unelectable without a subservient media.

The contrived self congratulatory victory lap of this narcissistic asshole is not working out as he planned.

I never was much of a fan of Bush when he was President, but I will say that I am quite impressed with his class and silent dignity as a former President.

Suck it DUmmies. You can claim that conservatives are against this, but you'd be lying. Like always.

I have always liked Bush, even when I didn't agree with something he did. Obama is a divisive asshole, liberals claimed Bush was divisive but it was their nasty temperament that divided this country.

Obama is an narcissistic thin skinned opportunistic non leader. History will not look kindly on him.

First Bush "snubs" Obama (didn't want to get the treatment Obama gave SCOTUS or Paul Ryan, more like) now Harry Reid deserts them:

Senate resolution on bin Laden killing honors Bush, Obama
By Josiah Ryan - 05/03/11 03:01 PM ET

The Senate resolution marking the killing of Osama bin Laden credits both George W. Bush and Barack Obama, saying the former president launched the mission to bring the al Qaeda leader “to justice” and the incumbent president completed it.

...

The resolution, crafted by Senate leaders in both parties, is expected to see a vote at about 3:45 p.m.

Can you imagine what a cluster**** the bin Laden mission would have been if the peanut had been in charge, meddling in real time?
The Kenyan and Jimmuh are still neck-and-neck in my book.

It's a good thing Obama didn't let him in on it...Carter would have flown over to Pakistan to try to bring bin Laden in himself.

They need to apply for a mind.

Application DENIED for prior misuse and neglect.

I agree with Bush's decison here, for all the reasons said on this thread.  Also, I didn't even THINK of Carter.  Then I shuddered to think.....Wow!  Everything that could have possibly gone wrong, would have.  I wonder what happened behind closed doors?  Was it possibly even considered to "bring him in" to employ his "vast diplomatic skills?"  Saner heads prevailing?

Well now, William Clinton won't go either.

He has a dinner date or something, and can't show up.

That nixes the second Bush and the Impeached One.

Has there been any news about the first Bush or the Incompetent One (Carter) going?

Why would Dubya or Slick show up? You know this memorial service will be a Wellstone deal, with the jug-eared Kenyan taking Wellstone's place.
It's not a memorial service, it's a campaign kickoff.
