I'll guess that parts of this story are true, but the the parts that Horse talks of.

My daughter was 4 days late on her car payment Updated at 2:15 PM
She called the bank to get an extension for 6 days.
They were rude and condescending.
Told her that her car was scheduled to be repoed. :wtf:
The lady told her that the bank was tired of all of the late payments by everyone and was going to start cracking down on everyone and start picking up cars and stop extending payments.
Personally? I think they are bullying her because she owes about $2k on a car that books out at $16k and they want to find a way to take it.
I told her this bank wasn't anything but a tote-the-note lot.
Ultimately, they did give her the extension...but they did it after demeaning her and worrying her.
I am so sick of these parasitic ****ers.
Total BS. No bank is going to repo a car at 4 days late. 4 months maybe but not 4 days.

11. Yes. Updated at 2:15 PM
She said she got the distinct impression that she was being punished for other people being late.
That's why I thought that they were trying to get the car back. It seems so unreasonable.

10. Part of the condition of getting the credit Updated at 2:15 PM
They installed a GPS on it.
My thoughts were that they just want the vehicle because she has so much equity in it. She put nearly $10k down on it.
We talked about several options--one being making a payment every payday. Another is refi at a local bank.
We aren't sure what are her best options at this point.
But-you gave very good advice. ;)
Thank you.
There's the key point. I know a guy who works at a used car lot and they install one on all high credit risk customers.
I have a feeling that the little horse has skipped on other payments before this car.

16. Did she have rough credit going in to the original transaction?
Why the GPS unit?
I'm a little rusty as I've been out of the auto finance business a few years. Some of this new technology like GPS and ignition kill switches came after my time. I spent 11 years as a finance manager in a dealership.
If it was a rough credit loan then she was right to contact the lender and ask for an extension because they would have been bugging HER after a few days past due. That's what the rough credit loan people do - they COLLECT.
If it was a regular bank I wouldn't even advise her to call for only a few days. She will only bring grief on herself by reaching out to some collection clerk who only knows one thing - COLLECTING. Other wise they probably wouldn't call her before thirty days or close to it.
No answer from Horse. Wonder why?
-
I wonder if demeaning her was them telling her if she makes this agreement she better honor it.
The little DUmmyette got her damn extension and she and her moonbat mommy are still crying. :mental:

Wow. $10K down on a $16K beater, and still no credit without a GPS to guide the repo man.
I think DUmmy Bird with no Brain is leaving out a lot of gory details here.
But at least she's getting the benefit of a lot of DUmp wisdom:

This story smells of BULLSHIT!! Most lenders won't contact a person 4 days late. Once it gets to a month late, they start calling. Over two months late and they start the repo process. That said, if she went to one of these high interest used car lots that deal with bad credit people, that MIGHT be different.
-
The lady told her that the bank was tired of all of the late payments by everyone her daughter and was going to start cracking down on everyone her daughter and start picking up cars and stop extending payments to her daughter.
edited for a more realistic story

I need a refresher.
Didn't her, most likely illegitimate offspring, just go through a problem with another finance company over a cell phone that she bought and financed for someone else, who didn't pay for it? And didn't that other person co-sign for the DUmmy offspring for something or another?
Great job of parenting there brainless.

My daughter and her friend purchased an expensive television from Sears 40 days ago. It was ordered and wasn't delivered until 33 days ago.
The friend bought it in their name...but my daughter was going to make the payments.
Their friendship has ended. This person left and dumped the rent and utilities and lease and everything on my daughter. It was a one year lease. My daughter also purchased a new IPhone for this person who refuses to return it. Now, there is this TV to deal with. My daughter is still willing to make the payments on it. The other party is threatening her...stuff like "I will **** you up if you ruin my credit"...that kind of stuff. This is a 2-year contract to deal with this shit.
So, I call Sears. I do a lot of business with Sears. I explain the situation to the customer courtesy clerk--apparently there is NOT a manager anywhere in the store.
I ask if there is any way that they can return this TV and pay a restocking fee since theoretically it is 33 days since delivery--3 days over the policy.
They would not take it back. They said they didn't care if it was repossessed because nobody would pay for it.
I am of the opinion that sometimes you have to cut a little slack. This TV isn't in any different shape than it was 3 days ago.
Fine. They just lost a very good customer. I will not enter their store again. But it goes to show that corporate Amerikkka does NOT care about consumers. Point taken. Loud and clear.

I would say the latter is correct.
This place sounds like one of those high risk places that demand a 50% down payment in lieu of a credit check. If you don't pay, the GPS will let them know where the vehicle is located. They use to put kill switches in them. There was a big write up in the paper about them. Cars were dying at red lights causing all kinds of problems.

It could be that back during the reign of the BFEE the economy was in good enough shape that companies could bend the rules a bit, but since the goons that Horse with No Brain helped elect took over and tanked the economy the companies are having to stick to the letter in an attempt to stay in business.
Sounds like Horse with No Brain voted against her best interest.

I missed a car payment a few years ago by mistake and I was in no threat of having it repoed.
If it's true they would repo it after 4 days there is quite a bit not being said by the post. I call BS.
-
My loan company (Wells Fargo) and my husband's (Compass Bank) both have a ten day grace period. I would imagine on the 11th day, the bank(s) would start calling us. We have never been late on our payments, so I do not know how that works. We are responsible and pay our bills on time. My husband overpays his car payment by $50 to $100, depends how much extra money we have. My car payment is only paid an extra $10 or $20 per month.
Not sure about that GPS installed on her car though. That would really piss me off. I do have a GPS unit in my car, but that's for my personal use. Not for the bank to use to try and intimidate me. I'd have my husband find it and immediately uninstall it. Then I would return it to the dealership or bank and say, "nice try, now have a wonderful day"
I am not okay with people being tracked because they are "high risk". It's just not cool. I'm sorry.
-
It's probably not a GPS, per se, but more than likely a Lo-Jack or some other sort of GPS tracking device. I've read of those being installed by some car dealerships.
-

I just asked my husband about this, because it seemed odd.
He said those small dealerships (maybe like DriveTime) put GPS in cars and then charge a 35% interest on the loan. One of his ex-employees (got fired) bought a car through a DriveTime type of dealership a month or so before he was let go. My husband said his car DID have a GPS installed on it and it even said it would be there in the loan paperwork. If one were to sign that in agreement, too bad, that's your fault. Now if the bank stuck a GPS unit on the car, without the knowledge of the owner, then that's BS.
My husband did say it was like Lo-Jack on his car though. They treated his car like a rental car. The company allowed him (the ex-employee) to switch cars every six months. But he had to pay $250 a month. He was basically renting a car. Sounds dumb.
It must suck to have really really bad credit and be unable to get a loan through a large bank or even just a credit union.
-
I am not okay with people being tracked because they are "high risk". It's just not cool. I'm sorry.
The tracking device was a stated condition of the loan, according to the DUmmy, not something added surreptitiously by the evil lender.
The alternative was for the DUmmy to refuse the loan.
Many DUmmies wear tracking devices on their ankles, so another one in the car should be no problem.
Deadbeats have to tolerate a lot of uncool things. It's among the main reasons to avoid being a deadbeat.
-

Yup. I actually had to sign a part of my contract that they were putting one on my car, what they would do with it, etc.
I'll admit, I have one. It's what I get for being stupid when I was 19,20 and 21. But now I've never missed a payment and only had to call once and get an extension. They were very cooperative and willing to work with me. Probably because I've been a good payer.
-

Are you okay with those people passing on the higher costs to you? Higher credit rating requirements? Higher interest rates?
Face it--if someone wants the loan and doesn't abide by the terms, too GD bad. Cool or not, they have bad credit for a reason. They don't HAVE to get a loan, they can also save up, or get something smaller.
And really? $10K down? Hell of a used car if you gotta put that much down. I don't think I bought a NEW car worth that much until 10 years ago.

No, I'm not. I posted another reply after my original one about tracking owners. If the person is aware of the tracking device, that's fine. If they were NOT aware of it, then no, it's not cool. In this case, it seems as though Horse with no brain's daughter is fully aware that there is a tracking device on the vehicle.
I was cranky this morning and should have just put it all in one reply. :)

When I worked for a major nationwide retailer of electronic goods - the store offered those "nothing to pay for xxx years" schemes along with other credit related things. The way it worked was we sold the goods to the credit company (ie GE) and they essentially leased them to the customer. We couldn't return a product sold under such an agreement - we could replace or repair it inside the warranty period , or exchange it with another product to similar value provided the credit company gave us approval in writing.
Happened to me all the time. I ran the Service / Repair / Return / Complaints department of the local store.
Stupid people not understanding what they were getting into because the equally stupid sales drone was seemingly incapable of explaining the contracts or ensuring the customer read and understood it.

No kidding. I realized the day that one of our auto loans was due that I'd forgotten to pay it. Called the finance company in a dither and was told they don't even START worrying about it, or noticing it, until the payment is seven days late. No way is any company going to care that you are paying four days late unless it's a constant pattern.
Is Lil' Blub Ava the daughter of Horseshit? Just wondering. :-)

I've called numerous times to have a car payment extended or even deferred. Most won't say/do anything for at least 7-10 days, and it takes at least 2 months before repo proceedings start. Even then, banks give you every opportunity to square things up, because they don't want the car.
DUmmie HWNN is full of shit.
AND, around here, $10K will BUY a nice used car, with half left over.

Exactly.
I would of had $2,500 left over if I paid cash for my car. She must have bought a newer-ish used car. Maybe bought a 2008 in 2010.
-
Every time I see this ~ My daughter was 4 days late I keep thinking "and brought home this gap toothed coke head who done it to meet the family". :rotf:
-
Years ago the bank made a typo when entering my car payment into their computer. I didn't catch it for a couple of years. They sent me letters every month saying I was in arrears, which I knew I wasn't, so young, naive Perky threw the letters away. Keep in mind young, naive Perky was a little late sometimes when the due date fell before he got paid... sometimes as much as 6 days. Young, naive Perky gladly payed the penalty when that happened. Can't remember what it was... maybe 10 or 20 bucks.
When I got to the final payment the letters continued. So young Perky, who had every receipt, gathered up said receipts and went to the bank for an explanation. We discovered the problem and the bank took care of the accrued interest and penalties since it was their mistake. Not once did they ever threaten to repo the car.
Methinks that the whole story was not told.

About 10 years ago we did a very dangerous thing. We had car payments of about $700 a month for two cars with another 3 years to go on both loans. Both cars were new so we [ Gasp] borrowed the pay off from our 401k paid both cars off and with in 9 months had replaced the savings back into the 401k.
Quite a risk here but it did work for us. Today we still have the cars, we may have to put $500 a year into maintaining them, nickle dime us but taxes, registration fees, oil changes etc, they are good to go for another 5-6 years.
It is the freaking interest that gets us, it is not the total interest but the 5% added on each month that comes out to be about 60% per year or 180% interest on the loan for 3 years, just one car.
We are not taught this stuff in school, everyone gets a credit card thinking the 20% interest is just for the total bill, Not,---- the interest is per month.
So people get trapped into this by slick talking salesmen and woman and if some unforeseen emergency comes up, on a credit card bill of $3,000 paying the minimun, it may take you 15 years to pay off the bill.
I know people that do not put any money in savings, they are doubling up and tripling up on mortgage and car payments to escape the interest, get it paid off as soon as possible.
Everyone is told to have a savings account at a bank but, for the interest that you are taxed on small as it may be, in this day and age paying off homes and autos to escape the interest, using a credit card only when you can pay off the bill in 20 days is becoming a survival method.
Income tax for people that work in hour wage jobs, is a hoot, some claim 3-4 exemptions and get a good boost to their pay check. Come time to file and instead of getting $2,500 back they may have to pay in $500 or so , but they have been able to buy items or pay off bills with the extra in their pay check and not have lent $2,000 with no interest to the government.
Hard scrabble for all it seems, I remember the day we had to pay $800 to have a low jack installed in our Jeep. Now it seems the dealers are putting them in cars without telling the customer---Damn.
Strange new world for us and with all the rip offs in the business world I am not at all surprised that anyone would get a auto repoed, most are young and have no idea what they are getting into when they sign a contract that is full of legal jargon that is confusing.
-
AND, around here, $10K will BUY a nice used car, with half left over.
Around here 5000$ will but a very nice used car too. My car was only 4500$. Thanks t that I can buy cars and never owe a cent on them, which makes me happy.
We are not taught this stuff in school...

If not for taking my mothers advise on what to do and not to do, I'd be in terrible financial shape. But the school system can only do so much to teach kids about that sort of thing, in a way like they can only teach so much in sex-ed.
Contracts now almost aren't worth trying to read for most people because they can't. I've read many of them along with warranties only to tell people they got screwed.

Horse's kid should have taken the $10K and just bought a used car for cash. Why heap all this grief on herself? Her interest rate must be astronomical. Jeez, this family.
