Obviously this poll was meant to confuse the DUmmies. There is no option for "2+2 = potato".

It's an enormous bonfire!  It's a simple matter of order of operation, but they're squabbling and trying to impress each other like no tomorrow!  Jeez.

My answer was 2.

Same here.

The "I hate my dear aunt Sally" option doesn't say if aunt Sally is a fundie repuke. If it did the poll would be much easier for them.

I notice that 12 of them didn't care. They realized that as DUmmies the correct answer always includes hate.

Granted, I haven't done much math since I was raised to count how many ptarmigan beaks were in the bag but even I came away with 2 for the same reason.

I doubt CC will have as much of a squabble about as firm a science as this and we're suppose to be the stupid ones.

I wonder how the DUmbasses would view that?

I can't help but think it's because we accept rules that have proven themselves over time but progressives want progress away from the old ways simply because they are old and the individual interpretation matters more than functionality.

Where's the correct DUmmie answer?....a sack of potatoes.

What?  No optional answer for, "TEH JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSS!!!!"?

And for the record, yeah.  2.

Of course it's 2.  Math is not a grey area.  I can't believe they have 150+ posts about this!  WTF?  Isn't this elementary school math?

Proof that DUmmies and liberals can't follow simple instructions despite being the smartestest people in the room.

Yes, but remember that it's folks like the DUmmies that do the national budget.

But how do you "feel" about the answer being 2?   :-)

I tried to think of some liberal BS as to why they are no incorrect answers or why "two" is just relative....but I couldn't.
It hurts to much.

Apparently only 2/3 of the smarterest people in Amerikkka can correctly solve a simple arithmetic problem.

...and one of that 2/3's is in the White Mosque....or somewhere near The Oprah Show.

Possibly because you used an asterisk between the 9 and 3, instead of a plus sign...?

My google bar says.......48/2(9+3)=
(48 / 2) * (9 + 3) = 288
More about calculator.

But then we all knew google was liberal.

See.  This is why I use the Google bar for math.  I suck at it.  (Gave you a high-five for that, btw.)

Okay, now it says 288.

But then we all knew google was liberal.

Apparently whoever wrote the algorithm that changed it to that failed 7th grade math.  In that notation, the original problem would be 48 / (2 * (9 + 3)).  The algorithm is in effect moving the (9+3) from the denominator into the numerator.

I put.... 48/2(9+3)= ....into the yahoo search bar and boy there sure are a lot of sites trying to solve this most important, earth shattering problem....The fate of the whole world seems to hinge on the solution to this problem.

D'OH:

48 / 2(9+3)

also expressed as 48 / 2 * (9+3)

which becomes 48 / 2 * 12

=> 24 * 12

=>  288

Basically, if they expressed it as a single line versus double line, which this doesn't specify, either COULD be correct.

48 / 2 * (9+3)  versus  48
                            _____
                            2(9+3)

IOW, DUmmies don't know how to ask questions.

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

48/24

=2

I'm thinking that this was deliberately written as to cause ambiguity and thus foster arguments. (not by a DUmmie though, it's too clever for them to come up with)

Nerd jokes?  Okay...

What do engineers use for birth control?  Their personalities.

A neutron walks into a bar and orders a drink. Upon being asked the price, the bartender responded, "For you? No charge."

Nerd pickup line: If I could be your integral, I'd be indefinite, so I can be the area under ALL your curves.

Some people say the glass is half full. Others say it is half empty.  Engineers say the glass is twice as large as it needs to be.

Your Mom is such a slut, she asked all the math majors to figure out g(f(your mom)) just so they could "f" her first.

I got 2

48/2(9+3)=2

All work inside of parenthesis is done first, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction.

48/2(12)=2

48/24=2

My dear aunt Sally may be a ball-breaking bitch, but God forbid you don't follow her rules to the letter.  You'll end up with two tanks and the entire Allied army breathing down your neck.
