A Supermarket Accidentally Opened When No Employees Were Working
A Supermarket Accidentally Opened When No Employees Were Working

Casey Chan — What would you do if you walked into a supermarket with no employees inside? Dump everything into 5 carts and run? Steal all the alcohol you can? Grab store displays? Get a lifetime supply of cereal? Fruit? Or would you pay?

Well, Pak 'n Save, a supermarket in New Zealand, opened when no employees were working, and surprisingly, the store wasn't ransacked or stripped or even burned down because few shoppers even noticed the employees were missing. It happened on 8AM last Friday (Good Friday), when a computer glitch accidentally triggered the doors open with no workers inside.

Seriously! Around two dozen customers trickled in, cruised the aisles, shopped and when they were done, used the self-checkout machines to pay for their goods. Business as usual! Of course, some of them skirted past everything and walked straight out but when the owner of the supermarket reviewed the videotape, he said:

http://gizmodo.com/#!5795538/a-supermarket-accidentally...

I'm actually shocked at most of the responses to this so far but a couple do not disappoint.

It actually starts out like you would think;

1. A friend and I once walked out of a grocery store without paying when we couldn't find any

employees. It was funny.

Yeah, I expected as much but wait!

...unless you meant you left with out the groceries too.

15. I view both, equally, as unfunny theft. I work for a mom and pop store.

It is hard enough to keep their store running, without the "funniness" of thieves who will walk out with whatever they can get their mitts on.

I walked out with a few things without paying. I figured that it was the store's fault that no one was around. Not mine.

48. WTF? You don't consider it stealing, what is it then? Theft? Larceny? Robbery? Thievery?

In the eyes of the law, you are guilty, plain and simple. You can say "don't judge me" but no matter what, you admitted that you are a criminal. If you said something to the effect of "yes, what I did was ethically morally wrong and against the law, but I was hungry so I needed to steal", I would have more respect but since you flat out said "I don't consider it stealing", you lose any iota of respect.

But I'm glad you're perfect.

55. I see theft from large corporations more of a gray area.

Edited on Thu Apr-28-11 12:36 PM by Lucian

They steal from us all the time, so why the **** should I care someone steals from them?

Look, if I stop a theft from happening, what do I get out of it? My pay doesn't go up, nor does it go down. The only thing that happens when I stop a theft is Walmart gets to pocket a little more money. There's nothing in it for me. So, I don't care.

Likewise, if I was hungry and had no money, you bet your ass I'm going to take something from a store, even though you see it as "wrong."

You need to move out of your binary way of thinking (good vs evil) and see the world in the shade of gray that it is.

But I'm glad there are a few of you perfect people here.

Glad this shit stain doesn't work for me.  Oh and Lucian .... thanks for helping to keep pricing up for everyone!

His line of thinking is why there are closed and empty stores and closed malls (Regency-Augusta, Metrocenter-Jackson) in the "bad areas" of town. They opened, thrived, and then people with his attitude decided they'd just take what they wanted. How many jobs were lost when they closed, Lucian, you DUmbass?

I had stopped off in another town to make some copies at Kinkos and I totally forgot to pay. I had a lot on my mind at the time. I didn't realize until I was home that I did it. It was to far to go back and pay the dollar. I felt guilty so I gave a dollar to a homeless person.

51. My personal theory is that theft is the urban expression of a hunting instinct. It's demeaning if the highest and best use of your hunting prowess is stealing the Jerry's kids change box off the counter.

The only exception is fundie rightwingers. If you work with one, don't keep your lunch in the lunchroom fridge. Stealing your cookies really is the highest and best use of their intellectual prowess.

not surprising at all when you consider the store was not in some poverty pimp and welfare queen infested ghetto where the general population feels that everyone owes them something.  Too bad for you that your 'hood makes you feel that the store should have been reduced to an empty shell by the local vermin.

Man Dressed as Cow Steals 26 Gallons of Milk (http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/weird/Man-Dressed-as-Cow-Steals-26-Gallons-of-Milk-120807919.html?dr)

Got milk?

How about 26 gallons of it? One man did, at least for a little while. And that man was dressed in a cow costume.

In the category of You Can't Make This Stuff Up If You Tried, the 18-year-old crawled into a Stafford, Va., Walmart on all fours, reported PotomacLocal.com.

After standing, he loaded about $92 worth of milk into a shopping cart and simply rolled the cart out of the without paying, police have confirmed to NBC Washington.

He then attempted to give the milk away outside the store, and tried to flee the scene by skipping away, police said.

Jonathan Payton, 18, of North Stafford, Va., was given a summons and released at the scene.

What was the reason for the name changes there?

A lot of members had either anti-Bush screennames or names that reflected an allegiance to a Democrat primary candidate.  After the 2008 election, the owners of the site let them have a name-change amnesty.

A lot of'em also had upside down flags and said they had them due to Bush being in office. Obama was elected and they still have upside down flags as avatars. I think it's safe to assume they just hate the country and should probably geeet outtt.

Walmart created more jobs in this town than it destroyed. Before Walmart, there were two or three small stores, with a total of 30 employees among them all. 255 > 30.

112. St. Paul, MN.

St. Paul isn't that small, so I'm guessing the idiot now lives in one of the many smaller towns in southern Minnesota.

Famous people from his hometown:

Which would mean he's from St. Cloud, Minnesota.  Who's gonna call the WalMart's in town?

Edit - He must not live in St. Cloud any longer as it considerably bigger than what he confessed here:

Lucian should be required to live in my town for 90 days before he is ever allowed to vote again. Come to think of it, ever white liberal should be required to do that. 99% of them would join the KKK and the only reason the other 1% didn't join would be because no one would give them a white sheet.

That sounds like DUmp demographics. Wouldn't it be beautiful if this DUmbass got the walldud treatment! It sounds like he may be using a team of confederates to steal, along with whatever he can take himself. The Sauk Centre store manager has an e-mail, and snail mail on the way, both including DUmmy Lucian's posts at the DUmp. Hopefully, several people will alert him to be on the lookout for someone who may be named Lucian, whose work history includes unpacking merchandise in May, 2009. There may even be a lurking DUmmy who still has a tiny shred of honesty, who would join in....no, never mind..the democrat mind has no room for morality.  I don't know how WalMart is organized, but there is probably a regional or corporate security office that would be interested in this thief. Let's hope the thieving DUmmy Lucian keeps us updated the way DUmmy walldud did.

If anyone has a mole I would like to know if Lucian posted his location.  I am very interested in Walmart employees who believe it is OK to steal.

He's been working at Walmart for a while:

93. I am an unloader for a ****ing Walmart.
Can't get any more pitiful than that.

Still searching for more history.
Check my history BUTT, if I recall correctly, "unloader" is just another term for "fluffer" in the porn industry...not that *I* am an authority or anything at all...

I walked out with a few things without paying. I figured that it was the store's fault that no one was around. Not mine

Somebody should go rob this DUmmie's home while he is not there.  After all, it would be his fault since he wasn't around, right?

I don't see what the DUmbasses are so worked up over. They all want to steal from "the rich" and give it to themselves, only they want the government to do it for them.

Hell, that thievery is on a massive level that makes the grocery-stealers look like paragons of honesty.

They're perfectly happy to commit nearly any crime if they can do it by proxy. Theft, murder and oppression come immediately to mind.
