My version of why Federal taxes are "so high"
Notice I said this is "my version" of why Federal taxes are as hight as they are. Its perfectly fine to disagree.
The reason Federal taxes are as high as they are is because the Federal Government is forced to provide services that properly would be provided by the States, but that at the State level politicians are absolutely unwilling to tax their own people enough to pay for the services they demand.
It is the Republicans who most often exploit this and the Tea Baggers can't seem to absorb it.
From education to food inspection, from public transportation to environmental protection, there is a myriad of services that the Federal Government provides vast amounts of funding to do things that the states should already be doing for their own people - but are not. The States won't take responsibility for those (and other) problem areas and they won't tax their own people to address them. Instead they rely on the Feds to pay. And what is so absurd about it is that in many cases they then complain about the high rate of Federal taxation and federal involvement in local matters while they spend the money the Fed hands down.
They love their "State's Rights" but they have no intention of assuming "State's Responsibilities". Our problem has never been over spending, it has always been under taxation.
If the States are unwilling to tax their people to pay for the services that the people require then they have no business disparaging the Federal Government for taking on the task, and they particularly have no business then saying that what the Federal Government is doing is not among the enumerated powers and thus the State's responsibility.
Then they add insult to injury by trying to cut the rates of Federal taxation, which is used to pay for the services for which they are responsible but won't provide, to a level too low to cover providing for their own people and will then use the degradation of services as ammunition for further cuts. Its as if the whole damned world has been turned upside down and shook real hard 'till its brain rattled loose and fell to ground to be eaten by the great dog gods.

Oh now the federal govt is forced to be the nanny state. :mental:
Here's a crazy idea DUmmy. How about if we expect people to figure out ways to take care of themselves. People used to be smart enough to figure that out. For those who are truly on hard times they can turn to churches and charities, if that fails some help from the local govt wouldn't be a horrible thing.
The root of the problem is, the left convinces people that they need the democrats to feed, clothe, and give them high speed internet.
They keep hearing how only the rich can make it, so they don't even try. They just sit back open their hands and wait for the next freebie the democrats will give them. Our govt assistance doesn't do a damn thing to lift people out of poverty, they subsidize poverty.
They throw them just enough to barely get by on, and promise them more if only they vote the right way.
You DUmmies thought the war in Iraq was a quagmire, meanwhile the war on poverty hasn't done a damn thing to fight poverty.

Wasn't meant to fight poverty. It was meant to raise more government dependent democrat voters...and now we have several generations of those on the government tit.

Oh no doubt, when Johnson said "those ******s will vote for us forever" he was on to something.
Yes DUmmies I used the N word to quote LBJ, if you have a problem with that word, he said it not I.

Yep, no light in sight at the end of that tunnel yet.
We might as well declare victory and go home.

There will always be poverty. Always. Now those that cannot take care of themselves I have no problem with the gummint taking care of them. The ones that piss me off are the able bodied men and women who by choice abdicate their responsibility to take care of themselves to the gummint. They suck resources from society that would be better off used to take care of the elderly, mentally handicapped, legitimately disabled, etc. And they breed like rabbits. All one has to do is look at Britain to see where the USA is heading. Once it all breaks down, and at it will sooner or later, then there will be a new civil war. If the producer side wins, there will be a lot of dead deadbeats. If the moocher side wins, then there will be a lot of producers dead... soon to be followed by the moochers because they don't know how to take care of themselves. Either way, this country will be changed.
That is assuming China doesn't invade us first. I bet the moochers would have a real awaking then. The first thing the communists do when they take over is kill off the academia and then they go after the deadbeats.

And yet the states in the worst shape, such as Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, California, et al, are the ones who are more than willing--eager, even--to raise taxes to the point people and businesses leave in droves.
Funny, your average "Joe Shit the Ragman" guy on the street isn't "demanding" most of the bullshit you people think we are, but you seem to think we'll pay for your largess. Guess you've yet to learn your lesson. Time for another application of Painful Reality 101.

it is very arguable that there is an inverse relationship between states' tax burdens and their
growth rates.
People that work and pay taxes tend to vote with their feet. It's only through abusive Federal taxation that the Democrats can run their Plantation.

High five. Landslide Lyndon's Great Society welfare grab was the second coming of FDR.
Landslide was the first one to raid Social Security to fund his war in South East Asia where his wife was a key player in the MIC of the time. (Cam Ranh Bay among others was a LadyBird enterprise and the coffee shop talk of the day (Hey Hey LBJ how many kids did you kill today)).
LBJ knew he would destroy the black family with his policy's, he just didn't care. Doris Kern (Goodwin) in his authorized autobiography, quotes him as saying "We will have the n***ers voting with us for decades." No great emancipator, he was the other opportunistic enslaver for the democrat plantation. I see a lot of O'bumbler in that good ole boy.

And if we do declare victory, go home and stop funding "The Great War on Poverty"...what do we do with all the POW's the democrats have taken?
I have ideas but ain't nobody gonna like'em.

No argument with that, but there is a much simpler reason why the Democrats will always be taxing everyone else to 'Fight poverty.' There is always going to be a 'Lowest 20% of incomes,' and the entire bureacratic mechanism to define and address 'Poverty' is based on THAT kind of measurement rather than any objective look at the standard of living of lowest quintile.
It's a scam, in other words, a statistical scam. Poverty can never end under our government programs, because there is no fixed definition of it. The definition used for program purposes is entirely relative and based on income, not objective...so any treshhold dollar figure used for it moves by a formula when the mean income of the populace moves.
It's like the classic one-liner about "Half of America's kids are below average." Certainly true, because half of them are and the other half aren't, but it's a valueless statistical artifact, not meaningful information.

I am thinking those who believe in evolution and natural selection should have no problem letting them fend for themselves. :lmao: Release the plantation prisoners, give 'em forty acres and a mule and wish 'em well. Heck I could even see throwing in a good steel plow and bag of seed. That should keep the agrarian reform crowd happy to boot. :rotf:

One little problem with that...In stead of giving them 40 acres of government land the liberals will want to take the 40 acres from a productive farmer and give it to them.....and a $100 thousand dollar John Deere tractor, a $300 thousand dollar combine and 1/2 million dollars in assorted equipment that will in the pawn shop within a week.

Our problem has never been over spending, it has always been under taxation.
Anyone is says that and actually believes it is too stupid to comment on the topic.
"My problem isn't that I'm in debt up to my eyeballs, it's that I live beyond my means."
Whatever, dimwit.

I ran across a great post about farmers, tractors and GPS that I will have to see if I can find again and post.

5. I'm out here in NE...Many, not all, farmers, receive huge subsidy
checks. In fact, around town there are a slew of brand new huge GMC, Ford, Chevy and Ram pick-ups, all with Farm Plates that will never set a tire in a field...happens every year about this time. Since they have Fame Plates, they also use on-tax fuel, (although it is illegal to use said fuel on improved roads, no one ever checks).
Flatbeds are delivering new combines every day, most w/GPS systems so that once the coordinates of the field are plugged in, all the driver has to do is sit read the paper, the combine does everything else, you don't even have to drive the thing! Then, there is the subsidy on corn and soy to keep the price artificially low, but ensure a good profit for the farmer, as well as the genetically modified grains and a host of other things that make life about as easy as it gets. Grandpa was dead at 40 fro either a farm accident or working that scythe on the North 40 for 15 hours a day...in less than a decade, a farmer will live to be be 90, and his combine will bury him, put up a stone and mow the grass around the grave....maybe even place a facsimile of that "Welfare King" check he received.
