Borders Long Beach CA closed on Thursday... and my daughter still doesn't have her final paycheck!
Someone from the corporate office called to ask her how many hours she had worked in the past couple of weeks because they didn't have all the information. Then she was told her final check would be sent to her via FedEx.
CA labor law states that if you lay off or fire an employee, you must present them with their full earned and entitled pay on their last day before they leave. That didn't happen, so my daughter was glad someone from corporate called and left her a message on her cell phone.
She tried calling them again today and was told they have no information for her.
What kind of bogus bullshit is this? They just paid their ****ing mucky mucks mass bonuses, but they can't give a laid off employee her last paycheck in the legally allotted time?
I hate them. PUTOS!
Hmmmm.
One wonders what "PUTOS" means.

1. The down side of the computer revolution is killing bookstores, libraries.
Sorry for your daughter, JuniperLea.I hope she gets another job, a good one, soon.
There are times when I've wished the personal computer had never happened. I predicted the bad things which would happen.

2. Thanks Mimosa
I'll always want books. I can't seem to let go of them once I get them either. It's all about the balance. The personal computer and the InterTubes have been good and bad. I wish we could see the bad coming sooner though.
These sickos are keeping my daughter's hard earned money illegally... that's insult to injury.

3. We were promised a bunch of stuff when Hollywood video closed
Don't hold your breath though, we still haven't received any of the promised "bonuses". There is a class-action lawsuit right now I believe but I'm not expecting anything to come from it.

7. That's my fear, Drale...
That the check won't come and she will be put into the class-action gris mill... ugh. This is her regular hourly pay... if they don't pay her, she just worked the past two weeks for free, and then fretted for another whole week.

4. Not that this helps at all, but...
My boyfriend is a FedEx courier and he's been delivering severance packages to Borders employees in the last week or so (& it's so depressing on his end to have to deliver them). I don't know about CA labor laws, but I just wanted to let you know that people are getting their money via FedEx (we're on the East Coast).

5. Thanks for this, Autumn Colors...
I keep hoping there's just a mix-up and they will do the right thing. Your post gives me hope, and I thank you for that.
They could have kept a lot of stores open and a lot of people employed with all that bonus money they gave to the people who screwed things up. That angers me, but the delay in getting a paycheck is just mean.
I know my daughter will be kind to the FedEx courier... she's very sweet... too sweet. I can't even get her to kick a fuss about this, and she's the one out nearly $500. Legally, they have to pay her for every day they don't pay her after last Thursday when her check was due her. I want her to kick a fuss until they do the right thing and get paid for this past week of fretting over the missing check.
Can you imagine a child of mine not wanting to kick up a fuss?

11. Not sure when the stores here closed
It may just be that the stores here were closed before that one. I think these stores closed awhile back, so maybe not a mix up, but just taking them time after each set of stores is closed.

6. Sue the corporation for back pay plus damages
It will be a slam-dunk.

Borders went past a tipping point. It's an easy trend to spot. You just have to read the script, understand the script, and anyone can do this. Buy canned milk.

I believe that means "faggot" in spanish!!!! The Ghey brigade at DU will not be pleased! :-)

I believe faggot is hoto in espanol and Puto is a derogatory term to women's baby maker parts. At least it was in high school.
-
I thought "puto" was a male prostitute.
Kinda sexist of Juniperlea if that's the case.

With all the Eurocentrism going on around here lately, you'd think this would be cleared up in an instant.

Damn I hate to see this happen to anyone but life can suck. Stupid to try to sue, lawyer will get most of the money, the girl may get $25.00 when all is said and done, best sit it out and get in a class action suit and perhaps get $100.00 out of them 5 years from now.
As far as the Puto goes, out West I have seen signs for Puta Creek, or Puta rocks.

Well, since it's in Italian, it can be directed at only one person, a certain primitive with, uh, connections.
