Hatch tells liberal millionaires to walk the walk
By Matthew Continetti
Continetti is guest-blogging for The Post.

Today Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, ranking member on the Finance Committee, sent a letter to the coordinator of Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength. You can read the letter here. The millionaires want Congress and the president to raise their taxes. Hatch points out that raising taxes on the rich wouldn’t solve America’s fiscal problem, and that tax hikes aren’t cost-free. But his real purpose is to remind the patriotic millionaires that nothing prevents them from giving the U.S. Treasury as much money as they want:

While we may disagree on the need for tax increases, I appreciate the Millionaires’ philanthropic desire to share more of their wealth with the federal government, and I want to make sure that you are aware of opportunities to fulfill this noble aspiration. For those that are interested in making voluntary contributions to pay down the national debt, the process is both easy and advantageous. Federal law authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to accept conditional gifts to the United States for the purposes of reducing the public debt. Individuals can go to the website, pay.gov, where they are able to make a tax deductible charitable contribution to pay down the public debt.

No doubt Kerry will step up to the plate and be the first to donate..........   right after he pays MA the overdue tax on the yacht he docks in RI.

I wonder how much the government would recover if they taxed the 50% that don't pay anything at all.

You know, I've been saying this since I was a teenager, that one should put one's money (not other people's money, but one's own money) where one's mouth is.

And election after election after election after election after election after election, I've waited in vain for Republicans and conservatives to make an issue out of this.

I'm not getting any younger, and I'd really like to see this base hypocrisy exposed and blown open before I die.

I did a little bit of math and assuming that half of the population is actively involved in the workplace and earning a paycheck (just a guess), and half of them are paying no taxes at all, billing that latter half a nominal sum of $500 per year for the privilege of living in the United States would earn the federal government $37.5 billion dollars.  Hey, it's a start.  And it's still more than the Democrats are willing to cut from the existing budget.

I saw a bit of the "interview" that Obama did with the guy that created facebook.  Obama mentioned how people like himself (wealthy) needs to pay more taxes.

If he honestly feels that way, then why did he claim tens of thousands of dollars worth of deductions on his 2010 tax return?

Why did he even take his salary?  He could have returned it all to the government.

Because when liberals say, "We need to be taxed more!" what they really mean is, "YOU need to be taxed more!!"
