I can't believe I'm doing this: Quitting my current job

Yes, I went through 6 months of unemployment. I tried to find work every day, and could never land a job. Then I got my current gig: in tech support. I was taking a huge pay cut, but it was a job.

Fast forward to today: the "C-Level" folks are trying to run me out on a rail, despite me being the only support guy left who knows the product. The customers never had a problem with me, my co-workers never had a problem with me. I did my work, but my boss - he hated me. No idea why - I guess being an asshole can only go so far Seriously though, he hated me. Right before he left (he quit last week) he wrote up this screed on why I was a horrible employee, didn't know shit, etc. Hands it to the C-Level folks above him, and now they are trying to run me out on a rail. My new boss doesn't want me to go. My co-workers don't want to see me go. But the C-Level folks? Well a manager said it, they believe it and that settles it.

So tomorrow I am quitting my job of 6 months. I really can't do any other action: if I stay I fight an uphill battle every day. If I leave I get a package for 30 days. Chances are no matter how hard I would work, no matter what I did, after the 30 days from last week - they would have shitcanned me anyway.

Let's hope I find a better job. Let's hope I find A job. I have kids. I have a mortgage.

I suppose I should be more angry, but I'm just tired. Tired and defeated. Ready to roll the credits on this whole thing...

There's probably more to the story than what the innkeeper primitive's letting on. As usual.

1. I think that's the incorrect course of action...especially if the new manager wants you to stay. The solution is much simpler...tell the new guy that if he wants to keep you, he's going to have to go to bat for you and state in official channels that he disagrees with the previous manager's assessment.

Better still for you if he points out that they're taking the judgement of a guy who just quit on them without notice over a current employee with a clean HR file.

Therein lies the mentality of ALL DUmmies--they assume that going from zero income (unemployment) to a job which may or may not have paid the same as their previous position is somehow a step down.

Publicly or privately? If public, one could easily dismiss it as sour grapes. More than likely, however, it was in the form of an inital performance appraisal, which would show the DUmmy to be lacking in many areas.

I've been at my job for 22 years and I don't think the owner knows my name even though I see him once a week in the shop. There are others that I don't know their names and they don't know mine that have been there just as long.

Hiring employees is a giant hassle. One has to be a real f*ck up to make management want to go through that process with the possibility of getting an even worse worker.

Why do people do this? It's not like jobs are readily available unless you have years of experience or some speciality that someone will pay big bucks for.

My job I had, before my layoff, really stressed me out some days. I didn't quit that job because we had a baby to support. We had to have food on our table and a roof over our heads. If I had another job opportunity lined up, sure, I might have put in my notice and went to the other job.

Now that I have a new job, it's a pay cut from my previous job. But it's a pay raise from unemployment. I still win, even though my hourly wage will be a little bit lower than my full-time job I had in 2010.

Sorry for the rambling. I just do not understand why someone would up and leave their job just because someone "hates" them. ::)

I've seen similar things happen when they get a callback on a better job, and it turns out they just took the position with the organization to cover them in case it fell through. Usually more than a day, but timing in that situation is purely coincidental.

I didn't consider that. You're probably correct since these were relatively low-level administrative and customer service jobs.

I just remember the hassle I had to go through after I was hired here to get all my stuff approved... phones, computers, expense account, building access. It's a lot of work to hire somebody.

I don't know Sparky what the laws are in this state, I went out on a medical and was collecting from the Company insurance when one day I was called by the Company to tell me I had been retired. Not fired just retired and was still collecting from the medical insurance.

Then the Insurance company began to bug me twice a week to take a small buy out. They begged me to get #SS disability but I felt I was getting better and finally gave in and accepted the buy out. I do not want to collect #SS until I am of age to get full benefits, Then my health went down again so Hubby is the sole bread earner in the family.

There are so many traps for workers that do not have the finesse or education to figure all this out.I have seen workers that have spent more on a Lawyer then what the results of hiring them can pull in.

Perhaps these workers know something we do not know of how the beat the system, come out way ahead in the game of life. Me, I just plod on, I want no money I have have not worked for, so am I the sucker in life that puts morals and self respect before survival ??

A few years back I was working as a temp at a tractor factory. The hours were long, the factory was hot, and the work was hard.
I lost count of how many new guys would go to lunch, never to return. In fact everytime we had a newbie we would bet on how long they would last. :-)

I'm familiar with levels and tiers in the helpdesk system but I have yet to come across one that uses letters. If it's the same as tier 1/level 1, those are the jobs that have mostly been outsourced to call centers and those guys generally don't speak English as a native language.

DUmmie is using "stress" as a scapegoat. Just an excuse to "not wake up in the morning and go to work".
Why would a NORMAL person in their RIGHT mind ever quit a job in this economy?! None that I can think of.

I've worked in jobs I hated before. It motivated me to get more skills so I could leave. Even then I gave the employer notice, usually two weeks, sometimes a month. I never told them the real reason why I was quitting, I usually gave them some line about how it was a better opportunity for me, how I hated quitting, etc, for the simple reason that someday down the road I might have to come back and ask them for a job. I've never had to go back to any former employer but if I had to, I bet they would hire me if they had a position open.

Perky rule #1 on jobs: It is always easier to get a job when you already have one.
