How the hell does Rush have more listeners than Thom?
Edited on Tue Apr-19-11 02:41 PM by white_wolf
I don't get this at all. Rush is a lying, racist, stupid, blowhard who makes shit up as he goes, whereas Thom is intelligent, smart, humble, and open to debate. I don't get understand it one bit. Thom should be the number one talk show host in America. I'll never forget the first time I listened to his show he had someone from the Ayn Rand Institute for a debate, and ever since then I've like Thom because he allows dissent and debate, and plus he wins those debates. I know Rush is more available, but why is he? He's ****ing awful.
What follows are non-answers to the question. Mainly "I can get him here and here, and driving through here."
Here's a theory:

18. I think, deep down, many of them feel residual shame over the selfishness and hatefulness of the policies they support. Rush provides them with a valuable psychological service. He legitimizes their hate. He says things, out loud and on the radio, that they feel a little ashamed for believing. Somehow, hearing it on the radio from a *famous* person absolves them of the guilt they must surely feel for wanting to cut meals to poor children so their taxes can be cut (and maybe they can afford a boat).

31. Cleary I have too much faith in the pubic.
That's another theory.
Hey Donnachaidh, tell your fellow DUmmies that their spelling mistakes are getting embarrassing. It's all in the signage, you know.
Lots of talk about signal strengths, none about the salability of ideas.
-
Thom who?
-
Thom who?
And that explains why Rush has more listeners. People know who he is.
-
I listen to Rush because he says what I believe, not so much that I believe what he says.
DUmmies just don't get it.
-
Dish carries FSTV and some other freak channels, I have tried to watch Hartman (Or Hartmann? Whatever) on it. He's a deadly boring, doctrinaire Progressive git with all the scintillating presence of wallpaper.
-
Thom who?
I know of him only through Doug's stupid ex-wife, but then I always get him confused with another of Doug's stupid ex-wife's icons, some guy Pete Camejo.
And then I get them confused, thinking Hartmann the obscure socialist politician out in California, and Camejo the obscure fringe left-wing radio talk-show host.
Doug's stupid ex-wife sure knows a lot of nonentities.

I've flipped over to it on Directv as well. It makes NPR sound like Howard Stern. I've even seen Thom, who has the personality of a lawn chair.

Speaking of guilt, let's talk about my theory about liberals.
I've started thinking that there are three types of liberals.
The first is limo liberals. These folks have tons of money. They love their money. They look around and see poor people and it makes them feel just a little bit guilty. They could give the poor people some of their money, but then they would have less money. They come to the conclusion that they should give someone else's money to the poor people. This helps their guilt plus let's them keep their money.
The second are those who are too sorry to work (or work very little) and are envious of what those who do work have. They think that they shouldn't have to work. They believe that those who do work should just give them what they want.
In the final group are those who do indeed work. They're not rich, but they get by. They are simply liberals because they aren't too bright or just don't know any better.
Keep in mind that all three groups include members who are batshit crazy.

They also think being "liberal" is the correct thing to be.
-
Well we know a huge portion of Rush's listeners are Liburl's listening for anything to whine about. Then there's the people who listen to learn or be entertained.
Then, DUmmie you take a show that's as exciting as paint drying that no one but the batshit crazy listen to. Add them all together and you get the difference between Rush's vs Yawn Hartmans audiences.
-
When I was a kid, I wore Thom McAn shoes.
-
Thom Hartman used to be on the local lib radio format, and I've heard him a few times. But I caught him telling so many lies it became unusual to, on occasion, hear him say something somewhat accurate. And, quite frankly, he's just not very smart. I can see why the primitives would like him; Thom's in tune with what he wants to believe rather than the reality of the situation. Perfect marriage.

has it ever occurred to these DUmmies that the reason he has fewer listeners than Rush is because thom just plain sucks?

No.

ThomWV is a DUmp All-Star.
Anyone named Thomas who spells "Tom" as "Thom" has 2.9 strikes against him from the outset. In coach's fancy new Eurolingo, it's mucho ghey.

Actually, Thom McAn shoes are the only thing that come to mind when seeing "Thom."
I would argue that the use of "Thom," when compared with "Tom," is a desperate ploy for distinction from all the other Toms--an "insecurity" issue. One thinks there is nothing else distinctive about one, and so adopts a name to separate one from the pack.
Better that one simply work on making one's own personality, character, and virtues remarkable among that same pack, so that one stands out.
But the radio personality, being a liberal, that's too hard. Just easier to adopt a "different" sort of nick-name.
-
I have no idea who Thom is either, and I've been asking this question for years now, what has Rush said that was racist?

Exactly. It's the kind of thing teenage girls do, hence "Patti", "Judi", and "Kym". For a male of any age, it's weird.

Fringe left-wing is the definition of the DUmp. But Camejo passed away a few years ago, and is even less relevant now than he was when living.

I'll bet he still votes, though.

The democratics ability to turn out the dead vote has always amazed me.
You can take someone who has never voted OR even someone who is ultra-conservative. After they die the democratics are able to convince them to vote democrat. Amazing.

Thom Hartman Said Something About Trump Being Born In South Africa?....
I came in at the end of a conversation on Thom's program today and I think I heard him say something about Trump being born in South Africa and how he would square that with his followers after he's made such an issue of Obama's birth cert.
What's this all about? South Africa - really?

Crap, I thought Thom was that big extention sticking out of the side of your hand.
Usless for the most part.
Can't really pick your nose with it.
Can be used for opening a beer.
Hmmm, never mind.
-
How the hell does Rush have more listeners than Thom?
It's very simple, DUmmy. Rush has listeners that include lots of people like you, as is evidenced by the many "So I 'accidentally' listened ot Rush today" posts on DU. On the other hand, only people like you listen to Thom.
-
They also think being "liberal" is the correct thing to be.
Also missing those that are ordinarily smart people, they just simply believe all the liberal drivel that gets heaped onto them.
-
Hi5 for referencing the "signage," Karin. :rotf:
Hey DUmmies, the main answer is because regular joes don't want to hear "progressives" on the radio bloviating about, well...everything you say Rush "spews" in reverse. Rush is not a hateful bastard contrary to what every one of you thinks. (And I use that word EVER so carefully. Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, "Big Ed," Mike Malloy, Stephanie, Miller, Bill Press, and any other idiot you can think of on the left side of the dial IS. You are the minority on radio. You have the television, or as you like to say "teevee." What the **** else do you want? Reality says that you "progressives" are the minority as of now? :lmao: By the time this Presidency is over, you guys are going to be praying that when you stick your heads out of your hidey-holes for a gulp of air, there isn't one of us standing above with a giant wooden mallet.
Whack-A-Mole time is almost here, assholes.

Funny how in about 15 seconds I was able to find out that he was born in Queens, NY. I thought that was in New York state not South Africa. :loser:
-
Where I live I get, in order of time on: Glenn, Rush, Boortz, Hannity, Levin, Savage.
I get none of those communist guys. This is New York, what's going on here? There is apparently no hue and cry to get those other bores on the air. I know, it's a mystery. :???:
BTW, White Wolf to me represents today's college campuses and everything wrong with them.

I think it's because New York is actually a rethug state. It's an enormous red land mass, ruined by a relatively tiny, festering sore on its lower right-hand side.

A guy at USMILNET from NY made a funny map with descriptors. All red, with Albany being blue named "hippies", Buffalo and a place up North called "Canadians", and New York City as something else, can't remember the name though.
-
Thom who?
If it was not for DU I would not know that name. Other than his name, he is on the radio somewhere and DUmmies listen to him I know nothing else about him.

I've listened to Hartman a few times as well, and completely concur with your opinion. Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder how he gets away with the big lies. Then, I remember who his primary audience is. Question answered.
-
and New York City as something else, can't remember the name though.
Did it start with "A" and end with "holes"? :rotf:
