Title: MLB Thread
Post by: NHSparky on April 08, 2011, 06:10:57 AM
Week into the season, and I'm laughing my ass off.

Not because the Angels are 3 games behind the Rangers already, no, that would be too easy.

No, it's because I'm hearing the high-pitched whine just before the heads of Red Sux Nation explodes after this weekend.  Sweep by the Yanks?  Not out of the realm of possibility.  0-9 start to the season?  Tito will be nailed to the Green Monster and lit on fire.

Ah, schadenfreude.  All is right with my world, watching you bandwagoning bastards abandon your team in droves, trash-talking your own.  The Sux season is over and we haven't even seen the second week of April.

with 155+ games left we're not too worried about it. But they do really need to beat the bankees.

It would be neat to hear when the last time two teams were .000 with 6 games played.

The Sox game came on yesterday while I was out and about listening to the radio / MP3 player and I instinctivly switched to an audio Hitch Hiker's Guide book I had stored.

Some how it seemed like the right thing to do. :rotf:

Looks like this could be a long spring in more ways than one.

Jayson Stark at ESPN said something this morning about the stats of teams that started 0-6.  I'm paraphrasing, but I think he said that 42 teams in modern history started with that record, and only 6 made the playoffs.  The Red Sawks playoff odds decreased from 95% to 65% after one week of play, and their win total odds dropped from something like 96 to 85.  The first week can be significant.

That having been said, if any team has the talent to make the playoffs and a run a the World Series after starting 0 for 6, the 2011 Red Sox do.

Long road trip for the Rangers starts tonight in Baltimore. Lewis is on the mound. He's not as much of a head case as Wilson can be. Rangers take the first game.

Red Sox 0-6 and swept by the Tribe. :-) I know this won't last though.

Yup--with the Sawx taking the first game.  It must suck to be Phil Hughes.  Though, Bartolo Colon got the loss, on an unearned run (the other one he gave up was earned).

Texas took 2 of 3 in Baltimore. Onto a struggling Detroit...

That was an unfortunate play.  It was gutsy to try & score like that, especially since the catcher forgot to cover home plate.  Sucks to break your arm without a collision with anything other than the ground.

Rangers sweep the Royals...and the Red Sox sweep the Angels.
