$4 for gas? It could hit $5 a gallon

By Dan Gearino

After a weekend surge, $4 per gallon gasoline is within sight, and $5 gas doesn't sound nearly as far-fetched as it did a few months ago.

Drivers did double takes yesterday morning when they saw that the price had risen to $3.79 per gallon at many stations across central Ohio. Prices are rising because of the continued unrest in the Middle East and evidence that U.S. demand will increase because of the recovering economy, analysts say.

"You feel ripped off," said Donna Baker, 71, of Hilliard.

She paid $3.53 per gallon during her last fill-up at Sam's Club, and she felt like that was way too much. Now, it looks like a good deal.

5. The oil companies are punishing the lower classes for electing a Democratic president. nm

Those oil companies that were big Obama donors?

prices would drop. Now it's when repugs come into power prices go up.......period.
Coincidence?

DemRats are still in charge overall, they control 2/3s of the government.

15. Better hope not. $5 would crush the 'recovery.' $10 would destroy the Union.

Which would all be good news for the teabaggers.

No government. No infrastructure. No Obama.

No problem.

It's always the DemRats that have wanted higher gas taxes to drive the price up.

13. High gas prices are NOT good for the reelection chances of the incumbent president.

Which is why the RepubliCONS are ignoring them.

The MSM is ignoring them for that reason.

14. Reality check

High gas prices are a direct result of:

a) obscenely loose monetary policy; and
b) trillions of dollars in public support to speculating banks

We're directly (one step removed only) pushing money into these markets, and what happens when you move more money into a market? Prices go up.

Now let's list who we have to thank for this:

#1 - Ben Bernanke, the Fed chairman appointed by Bush and re-appointed by Obama
#2 - Tim Geithner, Secretary of the Treasury and catastrophically failed Wall St. regulator during the housing bubble (talk about failing upwards!)
#3 - the rogues' gallery that has passed for a Council of National Economic Advisors
#4 - 535 morons in Congress without the guts to do anything about it even though the power ultimately lies in their hands
#5 - last but not least the money interests who are the real employers of all of the above.

Why would the Republicans take the initiative in making gas prices go down so that Obama can be re-elected? All they have to do to win is to sit on their hands and let the policies that Obama & friends have put into place take their natural course, then we will not see another Democratic President for a generation.

I don't want to hear any of you people bitching about it over the next 30 year span where we get tops, one right-leaning Democrat elected, and the rest all Republicans, unless you have the guts and intellect to stand up and do something about it today.

$5? That's it?

I've seen it at 6$/g once. It really does piss me off how many people complain about 4$/G when so many of places in the world cost more then that.

Yet these are the same people who would like tougher regulations on oil drilling making it harder to drill in your own country.

Do you know why those other areas in the world have such high gas prices?

Sorry it pisses you off.  ::)

You know what pisses me off?  Your arrogant attitude towards these insanely high prices.  Good for you that you have seen higher than $4/gallon.  Does that magically make $4 a gallon inexpensive now?  A full tank of gas in my car, at $4/gallon, would cost me $70.  SEVENTY DOLLARS!  I could get two weeks of groceries for $70 or less.

And I am so sick of people saying, "oh no, it's not Obama's fault."  Really?  Then why was everyone blaming our president in 2008 for the high gas prices?  I remember it like yesterday.  My mom would call me and be like, "OH, it's Bush's fault that I paid $50 for a full tank of gas today."  ::)

Here in the Peoples Republic of Santa Barbara we hit $4/gallon a couple of weeks ago. Average for regular now is $4.11/gallon while the average for the nation is $3.56. A libbat I know was bitching about the oil companies gouging us. When I tried to inform him that the difference was due to the state gas tax being higher, the local sales tax being higher, and the fact the state mandates boutique blends for us, he got pissed off and told me (no shit) that FOX news is all propaganda. It was surreal. No counter argument just a straight out of the gate bizarre personal attack.

Now let me see, if gas prices continue to rise? at election time the American people are going to blame

The Republicans who are pro-drilling?

or

Obama and the Democrats who are representative of the views of the radical left who advocate higher gas prices and are against drilling to "save the environment"?

Hmm...........:whistling:

It's a cruel fact of political life that, justly or unjustly, the President is the guy holding the bag when gas prices get ridiculous, and equally so the credit for a good economy whether they did anything to actually help it or not.  In the case of Obama and blame for high gas prices, of course, it would be totally justified.

looks like your argument caused the libtard's system to overload and he defaulted to his basic core (and flawed) programming.

I grew up here and have seen it change from Reagan Country to a full blown insane asylum. Roots are deep and it is a very beautiful place except for our DUmbats that have been spawned from the cancer that is UCSB...and I say that as a graduate.

I'll try to hunt this up one day for a link...for the time being take my word for it.

I read an article and saw a picture of an apparatus for running cars and such off of green wood. They were using it in South America during WW2. It looked like a moonshine still mounted on the back of a taxi and I think there was one on a bus. Something about burning the "smoke" that came off of the smoothed green wood fire in the still. Methane gas or something similar, I guess.

Maybe I shouldn't put off searching for that info..... :-) sock it the man and the arabs at the same time.

I googled cars running off wood and there's a lot of info out there for it.

Found this truck that runs off hay.

Yet these are the same people who would like tougher regulations on oil drilling making it harder to drill in your own country.    (Yeah, we call them liberals. The ones with the mental disorder.)

So, primitives...

All during the Bush years, you were BEGGING for $5/gal. gasoline because it would user in an age of green vehicles powered by leprechaun boogers and unicorn farts. And NOW that prices are rising, you aren't interested in that anymore... Why ?

Isn't green energy more important than ever ?

Or is it that skyrocketing gas prices fall under what you like to call a 'regressive tax' -- You know, costs that impact the poor more than the wealthy because of affordability vs income ? And that your coal-hating, permit denying, ANWR loving badass selves are directly responsible for creating an environment that hurts the poor disproportionally during a time when everyone are tightening their belts already ? And that maybe this just might result in some bad things happening to your candidates at the ballot box ?

Once again, you prove your fundamental lack of honor - your principles mean nothing to you - only victory does. Pinheads.
