I went shopping for a spring jacket today. The saleslady was chatting with me at the cash while I was paying and since today is April 2nd she was mentioning how the first of the month is a madhouse at the bank.
Welfare checks getting cashed, unruly kids running around, single mothers with multiple kids. She even dared to have the audacity to say that the kids had no discipline and the mothers let them run around like animals! And she, a woman with a full-time job dared to complain.....

Did you buy a jacket at the bank or were you getting cash out to go make your purchase later?
If I want to see unruly kids, I go to Walmart on the 1st and 15th of the month.

Can't say I noticed it when I worked retail, but the weather puts a huge damper on store patronage. People go shopping less when it rains. Unless you're at the auto parts store, because they're all lined up to buy windshield wipers.

Come to think of it, I did make the mistake of going to Wal Mart on the first day of the month some time last year. It was a madhouse (more than usual).

I do my best to avoid crowded stores. Too many crying babies and toddlers.
When I go shopping, it's what I'm TRYING to avoid by leaving the grandson with his grandpa or daddy after they come home from work.

If you can get your shopping done in the early hours, between 6am-10am, you really don't run into any problems. At least not at the Walmart I frequent.

The commissary was always insane on the 1st and 15th with everyone getting paid.

Wally World and Market Basket the first weekend of the month--two places to avoid like a town filled with plague zombies.

4 am for me. I don't mind the boxes and stuff in the floor while the hired help is stocking the shelves. I'm not a slip/trip and fall case hunting a place to happen.

I never noticed the 1st and 15th being a problem, our stores are always packed on Saturday afternoon and between 4 and 6 or so every night. Sometimes I think half the town goes shopping for supper every day. ::) That wouldn't be so bad if most of them didn't either block the aisle totally by standing next to their cart while they spend 20 minutes looking at one shelf, or run across a friend and block the aisle visiting. Wal-mart should have traffic cops... :-) :-) :-)

As you said run across a friend visiting and blocking the aisles.
Unfortunately in today's life with membership down in the Churches we may only find a place to congrate is the local grocery store. Here we run into people we have not seen in 5 years. For the seniors that get out once a week if that to see a long time friend this is a wonderful meeting.
The stores are now the meeting ground for the young and old to meet and greet. Everyone has to go grocery shopping, sooner or later one will run into a long lost friend.
So what if others block the aisle, we can all ways go around them, I have no problem with kids running about, their parent may have sent them to find peanut butter or a can of beans. Crying kids tells me the kids are exhausted, hungry or uncomfortable, those cart seats would have me whimpering if I had to sit in one too long.
People that stand and stare at the shelves of products may be on a diet or have a medical issue where they must be very careful of the foods they eat.
So just go around these people and give them some room to be people other then your self. If one becomes upset that they cannot shop in peace, think about the others that want the same.
