.....and let everyone know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I know ya guys miss my crude humor. hehehehe! SIKE!
Been pacin' the floor since Friday expectin' a new mule. Damn horse is worse than "Toots" was with her first one!
Pretty much have to check her every 2 hours, just in case she has any problems. If it doesn't happen without complications, ya have to have the Vet there within' 2 hours or ya can lose both the mule and momma!
I'll keep ya updated on this thread.
So far I'm leanin' toward false labor this time, but she's due any time! I'll post pics if the miracle happens anytime soon!
-
Thanks for the update Al, good luck with the birth!
-
Thanks for checking in, AR, and all the best with the blessed event!
-
Hi Allo, good luck with the happy event. Looking forward to pics of the new arrival.
-
Whoa, Nelly!
I had to read up on mules a little bit -- the horse/mule combo thing threw me for a bit of a loop.
Good luck with the birthing, Allo!
-
Well, she's layin' down again! She seems to be havin' contractions, but she isn't dilated much at all.
She's gonna be like "Toots"! Days and days for the first one! Gonna drive me nutz!
I don't think I've had 6 hours sleep in three days! Bitch!
I'm hopin' she can do it by herself! I had one I had to hook a come-a-long to! Not exactly in my job description!

Kinda depends on who Daddy is. This one is a Mammoth Jack, so I'm pretty worried!
I'll post a pic of Mommy and Daddy when I get a chance.
-
I'm gettin' ready to shoot the Bitch!
If I don't get some sleep pretty soon, it won't matter anyway!

Damn. Maybe time for a Caeserean???
-
AR, when was your last Scotch? You sound like you could use one--and this is coming from a recovering alcoholic. :o

Had the Vet out this mornin', baby is still not in the birth canal. The Vet tells me to just have patience!
Patience my ass! He hasn't been spendin' every night, goin' out to check her every 2 hours!
Apparently they can induce labor, but it's not a good idea. Never had one take this long before. The Vet's not even sure if it will be in the next week! Nuttin' quite like watchin' a guy go up to his elbow in your horse!
Problem is, I can't afford to take any chances. If it's male of the species, he's worth a few grand!
-
Can't "Toots" monitor things for awhile while you get some sleep?

Somebody has to work for a livin'. Besides, she pretty much has decided it's my problem. She heads to work around 4:30 and gets home around 3:00. If she doesn't get her rest, I'd have to move in with the animals! It's still pretty damn cold at night and I'm not as young as I used to be!

Hook us up a live webcam!

So.....has the happy event transpired yet?
-
I wonder what happened to that mule?

I wonder what happened to that mule?
It probably was that dinner you had last night the way the economy is going.
-
No word on this yet? I'm kicking so maybe AR will be reminded to let us know.
-
I'm pretty sure that mule is a goner.
-
Still no mule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear to Dog, she's ****in' with me. Owner won't let me shoot her! Damn it! I think she just wants us to go broke feedin' her grain until the "blessed event"!
"!
Sorry I haven't updated, but this time of year is pretty hectic. Besides plowin', discin", and drillin', the east 29, tryin' to drain the lakes that accumulated over the winter, and havin' Mule watch, I'm busier than a one legged man at a butt kickin' contest!
Oh yeah, my Doc says I have a 10 lb weight limit! snicker! Yeah, right!
Will post pictures of the corpse when I completely lose my mind!
Just kiddin', heh, wink, wink! Y'all will be first to know when I'm a pappy!
-
Hey! If your mug was used as a symbol of the democrat party, would you want to show your face?
I can't say I blame her/him for staying hidden.

It is my displeasure to announce our partner, read BIL, has lost a donkey and a foal. I disagreed with this pairing in the first place, since it was a horse breeding a much smaller donkey. Let's face it, it would be like a German Shepard humpin' a Chihuahua! Just not a good idea.
He probably could have saved them, but was not dilligent in his observations. Now you know why I check mine every 2 hours!
It looked like mama hemorrhaged and baby couldn't quite get out of the sack and suffocated. Damn it!
BIL is not exactly my choice for a partner! He has some nice mules, but hell, they can't breed! Maybe now he'll invest in a Mammoth Jack like we did! Would be nice to have Jenny. I'm absolutely sure he could come up with the 8 grand +, as he's an heir to the salad dressing fortune! Cheapskate! At least he brought his pregnant mare to me. Don't know why he didn't bring the donkey to me. I think I'm the only one on duty 24/7.
I have brought up the subject of wireless cameras a few times, but these guys are pretty old school, and it's hard to convince them that technology would give us all a break. Even told them I could funnel it to their I-Pads! No luck! Yet.

That sux. Sorry about the loss.

That sux. Sorry about the loss.
Unfortunately, it happens. I've seen them have to use a come-a-long with donkey/horse breeding's. Not a pretty site!
That's why I'm against that pairing. It's just too hard on mama!
As a side note, my steers weighed 597 and 660 dressed, they were 1015 and 987 on the hoof! Damn, I missed it by a hundred pounds to the light side! I figured 'em to be around 500 dressed!
Well, anyone who can get here by Saturday, the steak's are on me! hehehehehe!!!

You ship FedEx? :fuelfire:
Good to see ya, AR! I was starting to get a tad worried 'bout you.
-
Glad to see ya back, anyway, Al. And the 500 is not that far off, the dressed weight still includes bone, so it's closer to 500 lbs of actual meat than it sounds like.
-
Thanks for checking back...I'm sure you're very busy. Sorry about your partner's loss.
-
Well, I'm still doin' spring field work! If it doesn't dry up and give me some sunshine pretty sure, I'm liable to lose the kabota and the skidder both in the bog that used to be my west 40! Wettest year since 1938 or sumthin' like that! I know it's the wettest year I've seen in 30 years!
Still no mule! I think the vet missed it by at least a month! She's bigger than a barn and startin' to get titties any female would be proud of, but she's pretty much stopped dilating altogether!
She has decided to eat me out of house and home when it comes to hay and grain! At least she's not askin' for ice cream and pickles yet, but I expect it any day now!
I'll probably be back in full force in a coupla weeks, if, and that's a big if, it dries out around here! I still have around 80 acres to plow and seed, but can't get out there until I'm sure the tractor won't sink to China! Been spendin' most of my time tryin' to direct the run off into where I prefer it to go!
-
Hey, Allo, thanks for the update and try to keep mud out of the mudroom, eh?
Good luck with the mule and the runoff! :cheersmate:
-
Weather.com says you're going to get some sun starting on Saturday. Good luck with all of that!

Hey, that's why they call it a mud room! Besides, it doubles as one of my shops, much to "Toots'" dismay.
I'm thinkin' the horse, "Kitty", is enjoying putin' me thru the waitin' game. I can tell. She grins at me every time I go out to check on her in the middle of the night!

Too bad they've been right about 20% of the time lately! Problem is, everyday lately the sun isn't shinin', it rains, snows, hails, sleets, well you get the idea! Heheheh
