Here's how large and inefficient our government has become, benefiting only the moochers of society ...
There are 77 federal programs that provide benefits specifically to poor and low-income Americans. (http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/end-federal-welfare-dont-mend-it)
How many different "benefits" can we provide for the "poor" in America? Housing subsidies, heating subsidies, food stamps, healthcare .. where does it end? The fact is that it is not going to end; it is only going to grow larger and consume us.
Maybe there is something that can be done to slow it down:
Proposed bill .."Welfare Reform Act of 2011" (http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112hr1167ih/pdf/BILLS-112hr1167ih.pdf)
A BILL
To provide information on total spending on means-tested
welfare programs, to provide additional work requirements,
and to provide an overall spending limit on
means-tested welfare programs.

I know I'm a little late in responding to this, but throw in drug testing too. That'll knock some people off. If I have to get tested to get my paycheck, they need to also.

Is it just me or is it more than a little ironic that the banner ad I saw when I originally viewed this thread was for "free" government-sponsored cell phones?

If I have to get tested to get my paycheck
How many places in the US test people when hiring them? Up here I've never had it done, nor can I name anyone who has.

Every job I've had since high school (with the exception of a few restaurants) has asked me to do a drug test. It's basic SOP here. Job = drug test.

Now the banner ad is for the movie Atlas Shrugged.

Pretty much any major employer is a "drug free" zone, meaning they do at least pre employment testing, if not random testing as well.
I think in most cases it has to do with corporate image (we don't hire pot heads), or insurance requirements.
If you have an accident, even if it is totally the other person's fault, you get tested. That way if you fail they don't pay a dime.
Oddly enough the only employer here in FL that I know for a fact doesn't drug test, is the state. The new governor is trying to make them have drug tests too, along with those on welfare.

I had to pee in the cup when I worked at Midway Airport in Chicago about 11 years ago. Just random testing for everyone.

LOL- I hate to admit it but the banner ad I just saw is spot on as far as gold- although there are better places to invest than goldline. After Bernake spoke I made a killing today on gold and silver today.

In the military, it's required that every member be tested AT LEAST every year, if not more. I had 2 in less than 2 weeks at one point

While you were making a killing, I was buying stuff to do the killing..... :-)
