NEW YORK – A magnitude-6.5 earthquake shook eastern Japan off the quake-ravaged coast on Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, prompting Japan to issue a tsunami alert.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that a tsunami of up to 1.6 feet (a half meter) may wash into Miyagi Prefecture
The alert was prompted by a quake that the U.S. Geological Survey measured at 7:23 a.m. Monday Japan time (2223 GMT Sunday) near the east coast of Honshu.

Unfortunate that they just can't catch a break. On the plus side, if this is in the area where the nuclear plants are having trouble, could it not help cool them?

I just saw this earthquake on the USGS. After having a 9.0 magnitude eartquake a couple of weeks ago, this earthquake does not surprise me. I'm sure it's just the Earth's way of trying to "adjust".

Don't some of the aftershocks get that strong? (and sometimes stronger?) I thought it would be an aftershock, but apparently, it's a full blown quake. Things are just devastating over there...
(Sorry about no pic guys. There wasn't one I could use.)

There were. There was one that reached 7.1, but it was further away from land.

Holy shit. Is it insensitive of me to think there should have been some Benny Hill music or something to go with that video...?

I don't see anything on Drudge about this.

No idea why they wouldn't be covering it. Maybe they don't think it's as important as the mid east going up in flames among other things...

Not to worry; there is something on freerepublic about it.
Drudge sometimes misses the big stories.

Is 1.6 feet really still considered a tsunami?
Sounds more like a wave to me.

Aftershock earthquakes suck. It adds insult to injury. Yeah. **** you... tectonic plates!
