IL Gov Quinn making fun of Wisc gov walker
Pols Announce $685 Million For High-Speed Rail (VIDEO)
Starting in 2014, Cubs fans can bring a little Wrigleyville to St. Louis -- at least that’s what Gov. Quinn insisted at a press conference to announce a $685 million agreement to begin construction on the next phase of the a rail project connecting the two major Midwest cities that will help Chicago move toward becoming the epicenter of high speed rail service in the country. And although it was held at an Amtrak railyard in Chicago Tuesday, you’d think it was at a sports bar considering all the references to sports rivalries between the two cities. ...
Serving as the press conference's MC, Quinn took a jab at Gov. Scott when he elaborated on future routes that would include Rockford and the Quad Cities in Iowa. Milwaukee may also be a new route, Quinn said, with a “new governor†in place. Quinn also ribbed U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin for his downstate allegiance to the St. Louis Cardinals, to which Durbin conceded that he was a fan of all three area Major League Baseball teams in no particular order. Watch their comments from the press conference here:

Gov Quinn was discussing strong unions in our state made me smile. But, Quinn is making some scary cuts in our state budget, too.

Quinn has raised taxes and more money to finance the unions in Illinois. The result?
Illinois bonds worse than corporate junk
Illinois credit ratings are the equal of corporate junk bonds, yet Illinois had to pay significantly higher interest rates to lure investors to buy the crap.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
Illinois officials were forced to promise a yield that is about two percentage points higher than was paid by companies with similar credit ratings in recent bond offerings. The state's bond rating is one of the lowest among the 50 states.
What this means is that there are fools out there with cash who are willing to take a big risk for a higher return. When Illinois defaults on these bonds, let us not hear the administration of Gov. Pat Quinn or the bondholders beg the federal government for a bailout.

8. Thanks to gov blago, Gov Quinn almost lost the race to a teabagger
We are sooo lucky. He actually has what looks to me to be a great jobs plan and high speed rail is a small part of it.
But, he is cutting some funds for non profits that benefit the poor stating we don't have money to pay for it.
Illinois can't afford it's share of the HSR either, but it is the poor that will see cuts. Quinn raised taxes and has borrowed more money and Illinois is still failing.
Illinois needs a governor like Walker and a lot less DemRats elected.

The most intelligent people on the internet, folks. :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:
Quinn is incredibly lucky to be in office, and doing a gawd-awful job.

I'm sure the unions will do a bang-up job and keep it under budget and on time. ::)

There's already a perfectly good road that goes directly from Chicago to St. Louis.
Interstate 55 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_55)

High speed rail is a MUST for DUmmies. We must be able to move unemployed, government tit sucking, broke ass DUmmie activists rapidly from protest to protest.
-
There is already Amtrak service from O'Hare to St. Louis... why do they need a second train?
I found a pair of flights from Chicago to St. Louis for $50, but most of them are around $150. I wonder how much a train ticket will cost.

I didn't look, but can't you fly from Midway to St. Louis for really cheap too?

Probably, but building off of JohnnyReb's comment, the union thugs have a harder time getting crowbars, baseball bats, knives, chains, guns and all the other tools of the tantrum past TSA screeners.

Getting them past the union thug TSA screeners wouldn't be a problem.

685 million dollars ought to get just about 6.85 miles of the track laid.
Let's check back onthis in twenty years and see how far it actually gets. Over/under is twenty miles.
-
How does this even work?
Presumably people attend games coming from every direction on the compass but the train runs on a fixed line between 2 points.
And correct me if I'm wrong but baseball is a seasonal sport. What about the rest of the year?

Yeah, I see your point. After all, if seeing all the hardware makes the other passengers nervous, who are they going to report it to? The union thug cops? :rotf:

And the Cubs & Cardinals play only about 18 games a year against each other, 9 in each city. (This amount varies from year to year, but that's a decent approximation)

High speed rail is a fantasy that will never pay it`s way...a beurocrats wet dream.

I have a hard time imagining they'll even get out of Cook County on $685 mil. Quinn can screw up Illinois any way he wants to, but the dumb bastard better not be looking for MO to pick up half the bill for connecting this abortion to St. Louis.
-
Well, Illinois must be so proud at the maturity of their governor.

He felt that juvenile/DemRat need to get back at Walker for advertising in Illinois when Quinn raised corporate taxes by 2/3s.

He's expecting the Feds to pay the bill ::)
