The plot was so twisted, CGI was incredible, and everything from the dialogue to the costumes were great. Every one of the other movies were just some way of blowing smoke up Hollywood's collective asses. They weren't good, they weren't groundbreaking, and they made 99% of the human population sit there and say WTF!?!?!?

Post by: Karin on March 22, 2011, 03:40:52 PM: I agree with him for most of it, especially Titanic. Couldn't finish it. Same with 2001 Space. I disagree on Fargo, and Pulp Fiction, which I enjoyed.

Add to the list? Maybe it's just me, but I DVRd Dark Knight, and tried to watch it a few weeks ago. It was slow as a slug. I could not get into it. Was I just in the wrong mood or something?

I'm not sure I get what your saying, I don't see why it was BS worthy for me questioning why Avatar was not on the list of most overrated movies.

Because it was IMO overrated.

Post by: SSG Snuggle Bunny on March 22, 2011, 11:28:30 PM: I can understand his reasoning on matrix but if the film is accepted simply as entertainment as opposed to making deep statements then it is damn good entertainment with a well-crafted plot as opposed to 99.9658723% of the action films put to celluloid.

The inclusion of Tarantino's Pulp Fiction baffled me somewhat. The critic dislike episodic story telling. I get it. But the dialogue (Tarantino's forte) is brilliant and what is seen as episodic is really character establishment portrayed in non-linear style. And whether or not Tarantino intends it to be, PF is a morality play. The conversation in the middle of the day about the events of the beginning of the day, explains why the events in the middle of the film become what they are. Had the film been told in linear fashion the power of Jules' monologue at the end would have been lost.

This was before Tarantino was allowed to direct but he wrote the script to True Romance and this scene is just as haunting and unsettling as Samuel L Jackson's interrogation of Brad in PF:

The way Hopper's character turns the tables and thwarts Walken's character is sheer brilliance.

In fact, when my daughter and I go to the movies, we deliberately choose the movies the critics pan. Critically acclaimed for me is simply a way to dress up an artsy farsty flop. I want action, bad guys killed, good guys winning. This was interesting, thanks for posting. I'll get around to Part Two. :cheersmate:

You are correct. However just bringing up that flop of a Cameron propaganda piece is enough to set my eyeballs to twitching, and my mouse to scrolling over for the BS button. Call it a Pavlovian reaction, and I only just stopped the knee-jerk in time.

I agree wholeheartedly with his assessment of Blade Runner. It's chloroform on celluloid.

I agree, the dude is a big ole douche, but it has aged well for me, same with Trainspotting. And Smokey and the Bandit. :-)

Actually, I agree with Pulp Fiction--while it was a great movie, IMO, it pales in comparison to Reservoir Dogs.
