My husband just received a tax bill from Arizona saying he owes $250 from 2006. Why are we just NOW getting a bill/letter about this? Has this happened to anyone else? And what can we do? We do not have $250 to give to the IRS, nor do we want to. We give enough money to them. This is just frustrating.
Why do they want the money five years later?

Happened to me the first year I lived in NC and didn't know they had a state tax (never filed it). The bill came from the state dept. of revenue.

We knew that Arizona had a state tax. We were filing separately back then since we were not married until 2007. It's just bullshit to send a tax bill five years later. If that money was so important to them, then let us know sooner. You know?

But that way they can't charge you a brazillion dollars in penalties and interest! :whatever:

Send them $50 and make arraignments to make payments. They will garnish his pay. Happen to me back in 1981.
Print 1040 2006 on the check.

and SSAN...... (it's probably NOT "1040" for the state Tax).
