Leg tingly!
(Politico)- A hard-core group of liberal House Democrats is questioning the constitutionality of U.S. missile strikes against Libya, with one lawmaker raising the prospect of impeachment during a Democratic Caucus conference call on Saturday.
Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Mike Capuano (Mass.), Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Maxine Waters (Calif.), Rob Andrews (N.J.), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Barbara Lee (Calif.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) “all strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president’s actions†during that call, said two Democratic lawmakers who took part.
Kucinich, who wanted to bring impeachment articles against both former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney over Iraq — only to be blocked by his own leadership — asked why the U.S. missile strikes aren’t impeachable offenses.
Kucinich also questioned why Democratic leaders didn’t object when President Barack Obama told them of his plan for American participation in enforcing the Libyan no-fly zone during a White House Situation Room meeting on Friday, sources told POLITICO. ...
Only 24 business hours until impeachment (http://weaselzippers.us/2011/03/20/dennis-kucinich-hints-at-impeachment-of-obama-over-libya-no-fly-zone-fellow-far-left-dems-equally-outraged/)

And the same constitutional arguments on behalf of Bush apply to Obama.
The only difference is Obama is not 1/10th the CinC so-called "idiot son" was.

Still, if I were a GOP congress critter....I would be very tempted to sign on....just so I could point at a democrat and say, "He started it! this isn't a Republican initiative at all!"

Nothing yet at DU about this. :fuelfire:

They are waiting for someone to show up and tell them what to think.

It is actually rather poorly-charted territory in international law, and the basis for either us, OR NATO, OR the UN, to step in is open to some serious question. It fails as far as "International armed conflict" goes, and also as "Genocide," since Daffy Quadaffy clearly is using force directed at political rebels, not against an identifiable ethnic, religious, or racial group on any basis except quelling armed resistance, so in that respect it is completely unlike the primary justification for Kosovo. Sierra Leone is probably the closest analog, with the French-led UN intervention there, but I believe there is a plausible genocide argument in that one (Sierra Leone, by the way, is another neverending cluster****, for the information of anyone unfamiliar with it).

I think Dennis Kucinich is fundamentally an honest man at heart who means well but in a practical sense he is dumber than a sack of hammers. After giving up on turning Cleveland into the next Detroit and running for Congress he has been aghast and outraged at one cause after another but his little row boat has only one oar in the water and I predict he'll forget all about this impeachment business by next week. :mental:
-
I think you might have overcounted the number of oars he still has.
-
It's so cute when the Keebler elves opine. Makes ya wonder when Kucinich is going back to making cookies?

You know what will be best about this?
If/when Kook introduces his articles of impeachment it will be the GOP-lead house that laughs him off the floor.
The Republikkklans will be the ones defending Obama.
Then what will DU say?

No telling...because "kids say the darnedest things."

Impeachment wise, it could only happen if enough Dims in Congress agree to it. But we all know Pisslosie and Reed will both sandbag the efforts.
This is a situation I see bad for the GOP to try alone. If they try and punish Obama, it makes them look like they are siding with Qaddafi ahead of the elections. And we all know the left will try and paint them as such.
I just don't like the setup.

Now, I am no fan of Obama, but I am even less of a fan of Dennis Kookinich.
Dennis Kucinich wants to cut and run from the middle-east, repeal the USAPatriot Act, end all our free trade agreements, and give everyone "free healthcare." This guy aids the enemies of the state and should face investigations into who he is working for. I mean, come on, this guy even made a field of candidates including John Kerry and Dick Gephardt look moderate when he ran in 2004.
