I've never posted a poll before so I thought I would give it a shot. Hope it comes out right.
This question has come up due to some things I've been hearing lately. Personally I think most of college is a lot of bunk and is nothing more than a money maker for the establishment. I know many very successful people who don't have a college education and I know plenty of losers who do.
For me it's not an issue of "can you do 2, 4 or 6 years of higher eductaion" it's more about "can you do the job."
So my answer is obviously yes, I would vote for any candidate whether they were college educated or not.

I know "educated" people who don't have the sense or knowledge to pour piss out of a boot - with the instructions printed on the heel.
I have to weigh the pluses and minuses of all candidates before voting for any of them.
-
Let me add another question to this. IF you feel a candidate needs to be college educated what would you want their degree to be in? Or would it not matter as long as they had a degree?

Engineering. Even though that isn't a perfect indicator (Komrade Karter had an engineering degree, IIRC), I usually find that those trained in the engineering arts usually have a fairly good grasp of what works and what doesn't.

I said no, although I agree that college is way overrated and overpriced. A President should have the extra education that comes from 4+ years at a real college. Just my opinion.

Many of our founding fathers didn't have "higher education".... Education doesn't make the man or how intelligent they may or may not be. All it shows is that they have successfully partied for at least four years and spent LOTS of money obtaining a piece of paper. The "school of life & hard knocks" is a much less forgiving teacher.

I'd personally prefer someone with a practical wisdom base from the School of Hard Knocks over someone who spent 4 years in mental masturbation at a Looniversity.
-
More to the point, it has been my experience that the unspoken, primary purpose of the Looniversity education is to interconnect and introduce the scions of "refined society" into the ranks of those who practice the corrupt arts of "It's not WHAT you know, but WHO you know that matters".

That my be true at Bob's Community College, but I'm pretty sure 4 yrs of harvard or yale is more then just a party. And we're only talking 4 years, that gives them another 10 years to get some life experience. I would vote for a congress critter w/o college - not president.

Haven't most of recent presidents been from Harvard or Yale? Not real impressed.
ETA: Money can get the unqualified a degree, so can skin color.
-
I'd have to look at the man, not the degree. FFS, ANYBODY can get a damned degree, Harvard & Yale included. It's all a matter of how much money one has or how much they want to spend. When I watched a shipmate that was attending SDSU literally cheat his way through college, that showed me all I needed to know about college.
-
So go vote for McCain, he has the most "life experience," that you guys want.

He's also a demonstrable college-educated idiot.

My Father and Uncle were some of the smartest people I've ever known, they both dropped out of HS and joined the Service, they were street-smart and were avid readers and had a take on the world that they would never of gotten from a college education.
-
I said "yes," but it would have to be someone that had the knowledge from some other source. Going to college is only one route to knowledge.

Proves us both wrong then doesn't it?

+ 1 here ... must agree. Ive known a few and am very unimpressed with Ivy Leaguers in general. It seems that these Uni's have been overrun by leftists intent on indoctrination rather than education. In teaching one "what to think" rather than "how to think". Thanks .. but no thanks. America ranks something like 29 in the world on math and science test scores. However America ranks no.1 in one category. All the students from all the countries were asked how they thought they did on the tests. Americans overwhelmingly said they thought that they did very good on the tests. So the American students ranked no1 in self esteem. So it appears that not only are we ignorant or uninformed ... but we are proud in our ignorance. Ivy league schools have made this a priority lately ... so that nobodys "feelings gets hurt". So called "leadership" positions are full of these dunces.
However, many "lesser" colleges do seem to stand out head and shoulders above these. Its really "on the individual" these days. Not their "pedigree".
Until we get our schools back from the left... its only going to get worse imho.

Yeah, son of an Admiral, who probably got McCain his appointment to the Naval Academy. Didn't he graduate last or next to last in his class?? I said "yes," but it would have to be someone that had the knowledge from some other source. Going to college is only one route to knowledge.
And we would be in agreement. Abe Lincoln, even though I despise him, never went to college, either. He proved to be a fairly capable President.

AMEN!!
BTW, isn't Columbia University an "Ivy League" school?? And didn't our current POTUS attend Harvard ?? Just sayin'.........

That's surprising. I would have thought if anyone actually picked a degree on this thread it would have been political science.
Meh. I've worked with a lot of engineers and they are smart folks for the most part but they seem to run through a lot of mental masturbation on certain projects. When I'm selling a home to an engineer they ask for inordinate amounts of information which is really no problem, I gladly provide it but when you look at what they're asking for you have to wonder if it is for information or to show me just how smart they are. I mean some of the information they ask for is absolutely useless.
I get the same thing from medical doctors. Attorneys seem to be in a different thought process.
Personally I would like to have a candidate who has worked their way up from the bottom of something and made it to the top to either own their own company or run the one they worked their way up in. Someone who has seen the whole process and remembers it.

I voted Maybe. I think I would vote for someone who has proven leadership capabilities, regardless of their education. I put more credit into military service, rather than college education as well.
-
I've just about had a belly full of the Ivy League leaders. Gimme a good old farm boy with some commonsense and let him appoint some more like himself to head(czar) the different government departments. Gimme some people that have broke a sweat some where besides the gym. Someone that has gotten dirty doing a job. Some one that has had a REAL job, not some government position. Someone that knows how most tax dollars are earned.

894 out of 899. He also claims a fairly high IQ score.

He also claims torture doesn't work. Some say torture worked on him. I think their probably correct.
He will say whatever he thinks most people will like. He could have won if he would have called Obama on his game. By the way this is my first post. Hello everyone.
Need help with putting a capital P on my screen name, thx.

I think it really depends on the candidate. If they do have a degree, the last ones I want to see are history, poli sci or english.
More important is the experience and I really feel most comfortable with someone who was "Governor" on his or her resume.
Forgot to mention - the school is damned important. Less Ivy League, more state and technical schools. Places where people go because they want to learn, not get a pedigree.

Done. You'll have to redo your password. An email has been sent.

It would depend on the person. Who he or she had on their team. What kind of experience the person had. But I would take a harder look to see what was in-between the person and thier education. I'd also take a hard look at the person who had too much education. All degree's and no experience.
