This is such a sad thread. DUmmy nadinbrzhzhzhski, the smartest person in DUmp history, the world's foremost authority, seems to be in a coma or something. Her dull-witted present is such a contrast with the blinding brilliance of her past, it reminds me of Jack Nicholson at the end of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". While the swarm of bullies was working her over the other night, someone must have nailed her with a lobotomy. An unassailable authority on nuclear science, triage, medicine, milk storage, world affairs, and the politics of insurrection, reduced to complaining about a coffee maker?

On a minor gripe on designed obsolescence
just as predicted, a three year old coffee maker FAILED this week.
I am tired of this shit. No longer spend more than 25 on replacement though. Oh and this one IS programmable... oooh!

Not being as smart as nadin, I have no idea how old the minor appliances in my house are. I don't save receipts, that's why we call them "minor". I just know they nearly always last for many, many years, and they're no big deal to replace.

4. If you thought it would fail, why did you buy it in the first place?

6. Our current microwaved was replaced after the two and a half year old unit
went out spectacularly. I no longer spend a lot on them. They will last the same either way.

12. We Must Put a Stop to Bullying By Minor Electronic Devices
The know-it-all DUmmy appears to have made herself into an object of derision at the DUmp. Like the plagiarizing laughingstock Pitt, who can hardly make a comment without some wiseass DUmmy mentioning "24 business hours", DUmmy nadinbrzhzhzhzhski will be mocked with comments about "bullies" and "milk" for as long as she stays in the DUmp.

The exact same thing happened with an epilator. I used it for a bit and it died.
I hate it when that happens. Wait....a what?

I have a Bunn A10 that I managed to snag for exactly $0. Like Nadin, I used Google to fix it, too.
The things you don't have to spend money on, when you know how to fix things other people think is broken.

Popping potassium iodide already? Really bad idea
Poison control centers hear early reports of sickness from preventive pills
As demand spikes for potassium iodide in the wake of Japan’s nuclear crisis, U.S. poison control centers are starting to receive reports of illness in people who’ve ingested the drug aimed at protecting against radiation sickness
YADA YADA YADA
ok but check this zinger...

6. Mean, but
I laughed, and I really needed the humor. But now I feel guilty for laughing....
In all honesty, reading some of the news coverage could easily have confused some people into thinking they were about to be irradiated and needed the pills. Especially the bogus fallout map.

I bet if the coffee maker was made in a union shop you would get 4 years instead of 3 out of it. :-)
Most of the appliances in my house are old enough to vote, and they work just fine.

I think it's one of those things that women use to pull hair out by the roots and thereby prove that they're way tougher than I am.

When I read that I laughed out loud as I recalled the hot wax hair removal scene from "40 Year Old Virgin" :rotf:

MICROWAVED???? Or is that, micro waved?
Oh, I'm so confused. Well, had you purchased a MIRCOWAVE, without the D, it might have lasted a bit longer. I've yet to see a home appliance such as that fail in such a short period of time. And to the best of my knowledge, none of my appliances are less than 5 years old.
Another thing to consider, nadin--microwaves (and microwaved) last a lot longer when you don't stick your tinfoil beanies in there to dry them out after rainstorms.

These are DUmmy women... it would be like trying to cut down the rainforest with a pair of safety scissors.
