I apologize for the ridiculously long post, but I am sure that most of the original will be deleted and locked as a call-out on DUmmie Nadin. Wanted to copy the good parts for posterity. Be sure to read the last one. The whole thread is a winner, so feel free to row on over and get a look before it goes down the memory hole.

Ok I an not the only "fool" stocking up on milk Updated at 9:25 PM
I went to the local store and who is there? The same retired submarine captain I met yesterday. We split the milk. He is getting it for his grand kids mostly.
We just looked at each other and went... not good.
Oh and the cashiers looked at us as if we were crazy. We both got about three cases of 1 liter milk that lasts... we both considered the powdered, but that stuff justs tastes awful... On the bright side, I don't have to buy milk for a few months!

The OP is in perpetual full-time disaster panic mode, and it's ****ing hilarious.
NONE of her predictions come true.
She's batting a perfect 0.00.
But the baa-baaa crowd here lap it up.
Makes it even funnier, I can see how easy people let themselves be fooled by someone waving their arms around frantically all the time, like, well, Glenn Beck, for example.

You need to stop treating everyone here as being ignorant if we don't agree with every little tin-foil hat episode you have. And you throwing around the word "experts" is ridiculous as well--shit, anyone can come here and can say they are an expert. Even real-life experts disagree all the time.

She's just an expert! Got a topic? Not to worry. She's sure to be an expert on it, and she will teach you ignorant morons, by God, or send you straight to ignore with a melodramatic announcement! There's only one caveat: whatever your topic will be, it'll end up in catastrophe and disaster. History says so. Thus sayeth the Historian!

Stockpiling milk? We just bought two gallons which expire on March 25. How do you store milk so it doesn't go bad so soon?

If know-it-all nadin has trouble finding potassium iodide, she should check this out:
http://www.prescriptiondrug-info.com/Discuss/buy-potassium-cyanide-206063.htm
It's not iodide, but it's in the *-ide family, and as an expert chemist I'm sure nadin knows it would be a good substitute. Oh, and yes, even a small dose is effective.

I take exception to your remarks Carl. Why would the business of selling generators for outages be so big if everyone just depended on the power company's.?? 8 years have gone by without any problem, why buy one at half price when the power company's are warning perhaps problems ahead when the money can be used to go to a Casino for a day??
2 years with little snow , why spend the money to buy a cut rate snow blower, to store for another year or so.? A down payment on an ATV?
Why bother to tie down mobile homes , expensive and there has not been a hurricane hit in a dozen years.? Money better spent on a 4 day Cruse to where ever.
What kind of people that live within 10 miles of a supermarket have any need for a freezer, one can buy a very nice piece of Jewelry for that price.
You are a very safe driver, why buy insurance sense you do not intend to get into an accident. Same for home owners or apartment insurance, what could possibly go wrong.?? You have ADT so no reason to do more.
Conservatives are the ones that look to the future and darn near everything that can arise from any situations. Liberals just go their way expecting someone else to take care of them.
It in my life time it was never considered a bad idea to stock pile food, just in case. Yankees usually have a rainy day stash of money to help when unexpected things come up.
Why do Conservatives own guns, not to kill rabbits for food, they are willing to be prepared against all threats that the local, State or Government cannot protect them from.

Stockpiling milk? We just bought two gallons which expire on March 25. How do you store milk so it doesn't go bad so soon?
They sell ultra-pasteurized milk in quart containers that is good for a couple months and doesn't require refrigeration, but it doesn't taste all that great and is about four times as expensive as regular milk.
-
Why would the business of selling generators for outages be so big if everyone just depended on the power company's.??
Once again, the stuipidest state in the union heard from!
How long have you lived up here? Even little ol' me, only lived up here for 5 years, have had SIGNIFICANT need of a generator for the house when the power went out. Mine has something like 150 hours on it.
Ice storm in December 2008 mean anything? The wind storm last February? Some asshole hits a power pole?
Perhaps you should have hung out at Home Depot and Lowe's in the days following the ice storm. Oh, that was a hoot. And all I was looking for were D-cell batteries that I couldn't find for FOUR DAYS.
Oh, and gas. Can't run generators without gas, but if the power's out, how do the gas pumps work? D'oh!
