Title: Who needs science when DUmbasses explain what could be causing earthquakes
Post by: chitownchica on March 15, 2011, 03:19:47 AM
All kinds of stupid in this post.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x642010

As you read this thread, remember that Dummie Che wannabe, aka hugabear, recently chided us on how stupid RWs are.  His OP illuminates his wisdom in the earth sciences.  DUmmie Cleita shows off her PhD in DUmp logic.

Quakes: Chile 8.8, Sumatra 9.0, Japan 9.1 - should we be worried?

Three quakes around the 9.0 range, all on the "ring of fire", which encompasses the Pacific, and all within a five-year span. Is it normal to have this many super-quakes within a short period of time?

2. Earthquakes happen all the time.

As long as the plates keep moving, there's going to be earthquakes.

Nothing to worry about.

14. I have lived all my life in either the Atacama desert of Chile or Southern California and yes earthquakes happen all the time in those regions, however, magnitude 6+ used to be considered big ones, and 7+ and 8+ magnitudes were historical, maybe one or two in a century. To have so many in one decade is very, very alarming. Now that they are reaching for 9+ is very scary and NOT NORMAL.

20. Maybe we need to look at what industrialization is doing to the planet and that might be triggering this geological response instead of saying it's normal and going about one's business until it's too late.

23. What does industrialization have to do with the moving plates?

The plates are over two miles thick sliding around on the globe. Plates can either subduct, slide past each other, or move away from each other. At every major plate boundary, there's some kind of tectonic activity going on. That's the consequence of the plates making contact with each other. With that movement, there's energy being stored in the rocks. When those rocks are stressed, earthquakes occur.

How does a factory influence that?

Here comes the woo...

27. Shouldn't we look into it?

Could it be global warming, industrialization or solar flares? It could be any of a number of reasons but if no one looks into the causes, we aren't very far into a solution are we?

 :mental:

There's much more infighting about who is the dumbest over on the island.

That's all I have to say.  I have been entertained for the day.  I may have to row over.

Ideally, Cleita would like to ban and outlaw all earthquakes.  But in the meantime,

13. I am very worried and I want people who are living
near operating nuke plants to work to get these plants decommissioned ASAP. We can never be prepared enough for earthquakes, tsunamis and other acts of God, but this is something we can control ourselves and it's in our hands. To not do something about it is criminally negligent IMHO.

Moth ball the nuclear plants, shut down the oil/coal fired steam plants, un-dam the rivers...then we can all gather round the campfire and sing...

"Turn out the lights, the party's over........"

Can't we just explain to the DUmmies that an earthquake is just the Earth's way of farting?  It might work.

IMHO Clit, you are one DUmb scrunt! So I guess we're even!

We even upgraded our VRWC ignorance meter and this post is off the scale! Damn, if Japan wasn't in such turmoil, we could ask them for ideas to increase our potential to measure you DUmb****s! They're pretty good at miniaturizing electronics. They don't have all the ridiculous gubmint red tape people like you have anchored American business in. We could do it, but it would take 10 years to jump thru all the hoops.

You'll notice she wants someone else to do the job, she has absolutely no intention of doing a damn thing beyond demanding someone else do it.

AGAIN!

I don't think we can build a meter capable of handling the sheer volume of stupid at the DUmp.

Not with today's components, anyway.

It's probably for the best.  As soon as we invent a machine that is idiot proof, the DUmp invents a better idiot.   :hammer:

Well, I knew it had to happen.  You can't criticize a Dummie without pissing someone or something off.   :thatsright:

I'll be down at the pond, apologizing.

^5! Never thought of that! You're right, it's a losing battle that technology just can't keep up with!

Besides, I just spit scotch all over my keyboard, so I'm goin' to have to worry about that first! Wonder if I can get an advance on my VRWC salary this month?

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
