Title: Should zoos be outlawed or do they much more good than harm

The video talks about Jack Hanna debating about what had happen with a Orca killing a trainer.
I'm a member at the Columbus Zoo and I feel they do a huge job in educating people about the importance to protecting our wildlife.

I am unable to watch videos at the moment, but I would have to say there isn't a dang thing wrong with a zoo.  I think the animal trainers take it a little too far, with all the shows, at places like Sea World, but hey, if that is what they want to do, go for it.

My first impulse would be to outlaw moonbats in charge of zoos; as whatever they touch, they **** up seven ways from Sunday.  Regressive Communist bastards are permitted on zoo property only as paying guests - so long as they keep themselves, their offspring and their idiotic ideas on the proper side of the fence/glass - or as exhibits:  it makes no difference to me.  Give that a try for a little while, and then if we're still having problems at the zoos we can re-address the issue.

Can I get an amen for DefiantSix? ....or permission for the DUmmies and their offspring to pet the tigers/lions/polar bears will also do.

I wouldn't label Jack Hanna a "moonbat." He is very passionate about protecting animals.

Hanna may or may not be particularly political in the "messages" he chooses to advocate for.  I haven't had a TV in the house for over 2 years now, and thus have not watched him in order to form an opinion.  Many of the whack jobs that hang on his every word ARE moonbats however, and can usually take whatever they hear coming out of his lips as justification and reinforcement of whatever soapbox du jour they're stumping on today.  Out of context?  Very likely.  Spun beyond recognition?  Certainly, if they have to.

The fact that a few of these left-wing escapees from the laughing academy are also put in positions of authority in many of our nation's zoos and wildlife exhibits is what I was addressing, not that Hanna is or is not a member in good standing in the Nurse Ratchet Glee Club right along with the Regressive Communist zookeepers who use what he says.

I love zoos, especially the St. Louis Zoo but I get really pissed when I see food bowls in their caged areas.  I don't know why but it's so not natural and yeh I know caging them isn't but it just bothers me, ok?  :censored:

And I really feel bad when I see the animals pacing back and forth in their areas.

That's a big question. I've been to zoos that I find appalling and embarrassingly outdated and others that are an awesome experience not to be missed. I have no problem with outdated zoos being shut down, in whole or at least in part.
The Buffalo zoo is a prime example. Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead it opened in 1875. It still has exhibits which date from before the turn of the last century yet has seen many improvements over the decades but throwbacks remain. The last time I was there was last summer for the first time in twenty years. I had heard many good things about improvements and new exhibits but was wholly disappointed when I got there. Seeing a snow leopard in an enclosure more reminiscent of Attica or Sing Sing was disgusting, it paced in a very worn path back and forth incessantly and was quite obviously insane from its years of incarceration in such surroundings. Buffalo has a long way to go. Being on a small parcel of less than twenty acres in an historic neighborhood dictates IMHO that it should be abandoned and begun anew elsewhere, without the prison cells.

I've seen what zoos can be, San Diego, Toronto, Bush Gardens in Florida, Honolulu. Zoos are something that need to be done right or not at all.

Yes I do and **** you.  I can feel sorry for a ****ing animal ya know?  I feel sorry for deer right before I shoot them.  I feel sorry for fish the minute I drop them in the live well.  I prefer natural settings in a zoo, not plastic food bowls.

It really depends on the zoo.

Some zoos take phenomenal care of their animals, and conduct breeding programs to help increase the numbers of endangered species.

Others just house animals like cars in a garage for profit.

It's not fair to paint them all with a broad brush.

That right there is the difference between the Dallas Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo.  I love the FW Zoo, you couldn't pay me to visit the Dallas Zoo, again.

I kinda have to agree with you there. But then again, it would be more natural to give the animals live food. If the zoos try that, people would be screaming how inhumane that would be.

The Columbus Zoo here does an outstanding job of the way of having their animals in a natural setting. Before Jack Hanna took over as Director, it was ranked at dead last. Now it is rated the number one Zoo in North America. People from all over the country visit the zoo and give it extremely high rating. Best thing is I only pay 40 bucks a year for membership.

...

Well I for one think that would be great.

Let a couple of gazelle liberals go in the lion pen.

See how nature really works.

Much much better then the Roman Zoos that featured People that were different from them in far away country's.

Refined in the 1800's these Zoos were called Side Shows attractions and the people that were DIFFERENT from others finally had a way to make a living and some became wealthy.

Today we have a form of Zoo called the Follies that have people that can do amazing with their body's, the Chinese woman are a great attraction as they are as limber as a new born.

Animals in a Zoo or kept in drive through parks may be the only way to save their species.   How we rejoice when a animal of a very indangered species gives birth in a zoo.

There are times when being kept in a Zoo is the ONLY way to keep the species alive, safe from human hunters or poachers.    Look at it this way, why do people keep birds in cages for their own enjoyment, to hear them sing, or train them to talk---very unnatural for any bird.

Dogs, cats and any number of animals we keep protected as for them to run or fly in the wild will shorten their live span. A Zoo also does this, trys to protect animals so we who have never run across a Hippopotamus in the front yard will become aware of those people that do.

Zoos are wonderful if run correctly, same is your home Zoo that keeps your pets healthy, an animal Zoo is nothing more then taking wild life, non human I hope and keeping them safe and secure from danger in the natural habitat.

Go to the Memphis zoo.  They have these two monkeys that go apeshit screaming.  They get the whole crowd doing it.  It ain't pretty.

That's what we keep the observation blinds on Skinner's Island of Misfit ****-ups for.  To watch the howler monkeys get the whole Island worked up to a froth.
