It's been more than two months since the tragedy in Tucson stunned the nation. It was a moment when we came together as one people to mourn and to pray for those we lost. And in the attack's turbulent wake, Americans by and large rightly refrained from finger-pointing, assigning blame or playing politics with other people's pain.
But one clear and terrible fact remains. A man our Army rejected as unfit for service; a man one of our colleges deemed too unstable for studies; a man apparently bent on violence, was able to walk into a store and buy a gun.
He used it to murder six people and wound 13 others. And if not for the heroism of bystanders and a brilliant surgical team, it would have been far worse.
But since that day, we have lost perhaps another 2,000 members of our American family to gun violence. Thousands more have been wounded. We lose the same number of young people to guns every day and a half as we did at Columbine, and every four days as we did at Virginia Tech.

Of those 2,000 how many lived in cities with bans on guns? what's the ratio in violence between legal gun owners versus unlicensed thugs?
-
did you notice this??

He wasn't gay? What is that sentence for the ones who LOVE the Military? What??? WHAT??? You are a s$$ el heffe!! :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:

That's my question too.
Without knowing for sure, I'll bet the farm it's rather, uh, lopsided.

"We must seek agreement on
gun reforms"
"We must seek agreement on how much tyranny you can endure"
There, fixed the headline for you.

Here ya go. Some stats posted on my site in 2006:
Gun Control
Whether you agree or not, it's an interesting lesson in history.
Something to think about...
------------------------------ In 1929, the Soviet Union established
gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ In 1911, Turkey established gun
control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ Germany established gun control in 1938
and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were
unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ China established gun control in 1935.
From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ Guatemala established gun control in
1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ Uganda established gun control in
1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend
themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------ Cambodia established gun control in
1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
----------------------------- Defenseless people rounded up and
exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------ It has now been 12 months since gun
owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381
personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a
program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in:
. Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent . Australia-wide,
assaults are up 8.6 percent . Australia-wide, armed robberies are up
44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
. In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up
300 percent.
(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals
did not, and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the
past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is
unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of
the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns.
The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear our
president, governors or other politicians disseminating this
information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans ... before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them
of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'.
Without them, we are 'subjects'.

Hey Obamalamadindong! I have an idea. Let's let Rahm Emmanuel clean up the thuggery gun violence in Chicago and then we'll talk.

I would love to see the look on his face if a reporter would ask him about Project Gunrunner???? I know it will never happen. I do know they will sweep Project Gunrunner under the rug. Still gotta wonder how many weapons were tied to that program associated with crimes here? We know 1 mabey 2 agents are dead because of it.

Technology aside, I can imagine the old times musta had some grand moments to them ... before the panty waist girlie men took the reins of power ...

I still think there needs to be a good amount of gun control. We have tougher gun restrictions and laws here and have far less deaths caused by people with guns. Far, far less.

All those figures are rather conservative estimates. Anyways, no surprise that they all engaged in seizing privately owned weapons.

Do you have gangs in Canada? are your cities over-run by thugs illegally using guns? look at how well gun control is working in cities like Chicago and Washington DC before the law was changed.

Your an ass! Your comparing 31 million to 310 million. I don't have time but my bet is if gun crime were related to population you have more. Everywhere guns are banned crime goes up! They always add the people that should be dead (self defence shootings) to the count of gun deaths.

I just don't want to go hunting golfs with him. Something tells me he'd bring Eric Holder with him and since Holder likes shooting at anything that's white, I'd probably get shot.

Fine dickhead. When you finally arrive at the conclusion that you need to keep yer damned mitts off my bloody guns, then I'll cease fire, and we'll have d'accord. Until then, Μολὼν λαβÎ, ****nuts!

Actually I kinda hope that he starts pushing and campaigning on reviving gun control. He arrogantly believes that "history starts with him". If he does it, our local garbage collector could be the landslide victor for the presidency in 2012.
He should ask Bill Clinton about the political wisdom of proceeding down this path.

Here's an interesting article: "Why the Left Hates Self-Defense." (http://newsbyus.com/more.php?id=7997_0_1_0_M)
Quote:
"Why, though, do those on the left despise self-defense?
They are collectivists, and Socialists.
They believe that people should think, and act, collectively, not individually."
Is there anyone left who doubts that the left is at war against individualism?

I believe this shows us that we need to crack down on crime. People are dead, an elected official wounded. A 9 year old amongst the dead. We need to first pass a federal law protecting the death penalty.
In all honesty, I take a very middle ground position on guns. Many on the left want to ban guns, I oppose that. Many on the right want to do away with back round checks, I don't agree. I believe that we need back round checks that are efficient in order to protect public safety and the right to bear arms.

Criminals or mentally ill that can't be trusted with guns should be locked up! If you can't trust a person with a gun how can you trust them with a knife or a baseball bat or a car or poison? The list goes on and on. In other words if you can't pass a background check you don't belong among the law abiding.
-

So someone who's mentally ill can't be trusted with a gun and thus should be kept out of everyday life? I find that ridiculous at the best.
There will always be people who can't own and operate a gun safely but you can't lock them all up. Someone mentally disabled can't so will we lock them up? Someone with a severe mental condition who can hold a job and takes medication should not have a gun but should we lock them up?
You're being unreasonable and ridiculous. Not everyone will be able to own a gun for any number of reasons, get a grip.
-
If thats their condition its up to the family to take care of them and keep them and us safe. NOT THE GOVT'S!!! Will you be less dead if they kill you with something other than a gun?

Concerning black slaves:
For if they were so received, and entitled to the privileges and immunities of citizens, it would exempt them from the operation of the special laws and from the police regulations which they considered to be necessary for their own safety. It would give to persons of the negro race, who were recognised as citizens in any one State of the Union, the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, singly or in companies, without pass or passport, and without obstruction, to sojourn there as long as they pleased, to go where they pleased at every hour of the day or night without molestation, unless they committed some violation of law for which a white man would be punished; and it would give them the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went.

Most local gun laws were passed to prevent blacks from possessing guns. However, I'll bet in cities that have the strictest laws like Chicago, and DC, that there are more blacks with guns than whites. :fuelfire:
