I learned this today about how grape~~fruit~~ juice came into play for communion at church during prohibition.

I was raised in a small church that held Communion just once a year. On the back of the pews there were wooden racks with holes in them to hold glasses that looked for all the world like shot glasses. Grape juice and cut up wonder bread were used for that service.

I have learned in the years following that the only alcoholic wine that was allowed to be purchased in the US during prohibition was sold to the Catholic Church for Communion. -----Back then it kept the pews full on Sunday.

But now that I'm back to my Presbyterian church, it's Welch's grape juice all the way. :whatever: Oh, and with my current church, we have communion once per month on the first Sunday of the month.

BTW, sacramental wine did a HUGE booming business during Prohibition. Also, I read where a winemaker found a loophole. Sold the unfermented juice in bottles, with a big warning label: WARNING! THIS PRODUCT WILL FERMENT AND TURN INTO WINE."

We have communion every month, not quarter. Hubby and son always say "Breakfast!" when they see it set up at front. They are asses :whistling:
