Title: DU argues over whether Bill Nye the Science Guy is a real scientist.
Post by: poorpoorme on March 13, 2011, 07:46:02 AM
The Kansas schoolteacher says people who teach children shouldn't lecture to adults.  DU thoroughly enjoys the irony.  :rotf:

He was on Fox yesterday and I thought he explained things rather nicely. But I guess she has a problem with someone more educated than she is.
But some of the primitives are really letting her have it. :rotf:

70. Bill Nye has been a science educator for decades...

you'd think an alleged teacher would appreciate that.

13. "adult audience scientist"

Tell me Mrs.Teacher, where does one go to earn a degree in "adult audience" science. Sheesh sometimes I can't help but facepalm after reading some of the comments around this place.

14.  You seriously don't understand that you don't speak in the same way

to children and to adults?

Well, that explains a lot.

No? Then what the hell are you complaining about? He's done more to interest children in science than you ever will. That doesn't change the fact that he's also a PH.D

Beth got PWNED!!!  :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Some of the best educated people in the Nuclear industry that are super smart cannot break down their knowledge so even a child can understand it and the child from there go on with interest.

It takes a very wise individual to know how to explain to anyone of any age the workings of the subject they have studied for 12 years.

Some of us can use the familiar Pressure cooker we use often to explain to kids what happens when the pressure builds in any container and cannot escape,   then on to show with a balloon what implosion is all about.

One cannot fault people that study Anthropology from having no or little idea of black holes in space.

It takes allot more then education in a field to explain to a banker or street sweeper geology, tectonic plates etc.  This takes imagination and the ability to get people from 5 years old to 90 to understand  what is going on that was outside their comprehension.

People do not need the math and the xc+ em= rc to just have a general understand of any subject.
