Because things aren't bad enough: Polar ice loss quickens, raising seas
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12687272
By Richard Black
Environment correspondent, BBC News
From satellite data and climate models, scientists calculate that the two polar ice sheets are losing enough ice to raise sea levels by 1.3mm each year.
Overall, sea levels are rising by about 3mm (0.12 inches) per year.
Writing in Geophysical Research Letters, the team says ice loss here is speeding up faster than models predict.
If present trends continue, sea level is likely to be significantly higher than levels projected by the IPCCâ€
They add their voices to several other studies that have concluded sea levels will rise faster than projected by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its landmark 2007 assessment.

OMG! another Globull Warming thread? does this mean they lost the union battle and are going back to this subject?

What if we chuck Moochelle into that big bad nasty volcano in Iceland as a sacrifice to the carbon gods, would that put a stop to it all?
-
For lurking DUmmies:
Fun Fact. Polar ice sheets are ALREADY in the water. Their mass is already displaced. if they melt completely, there will be NO ocean level increase.
I know this bursts your bubble, but the coasts will not start disappearing underwater. No rising water.
Basically it means that Al Gore is either a moron or a liar...or both.
This Fun Fact was brought to you as a Public Service by real science, the makers of truth, and smart people everywhere.

You're right! :lmao: +1! I never thought of that. No doubt the volcano would hiccup, lobbing her like a mortar round and there is no telling what carnage would unfold at the impact site.

Lets see here...0.12" per year...comes to about 8 years per 1" rise in sea level...96 or roughly 100 years per 1 foot rise in sea level... so that means I've got to wait approximately 54,100 years before I can sell beach front property....oh well, maybe I should farm some corn while I'm waiting to get rich in beach front Real Estate.

No worries. Just sell it now at "pre-development" pricing.
