Collective bargaining bill appears to be on its way to passage
In a surprise move late Wednesday, Senate Republicans voted to move forward with the governor's controversial budget repair bill, sending the measure to a Senate-Assembly conference committee, which quickly adopted a version of the bill that both houses will vote on.
It was unclear how the Senate, which has been deadlocked after the body's 14 Democrats fled the state last month denying it the quorum needed to vote on a fiscal bill, was able to advance the legislation to this point.

Can't tell anyone how happy I am about this. But...I'm stuck in a house where lefties frequently drop in. Going to have to figure a way to harness that happiness at times. :p
Anyway, this is GREAT for WI, but according to certain things I'm already seeing, this blow to the far out leftists may actually bring violence. The question is this: If violence DOES break out in the Mad City, will the police do their JOBS??

I wonder the same thing.
Called Sen. Miller's office this morning asking for another Senator since he wasn't representing me. Called whoever my assemblyman is too and even though he is a lib, I thanked him for at least being there.
I was very angry this morning when I heard they sent the runaways their checks and rescinded the fines so I called Scott Fitzgerald's office too, who is the majority leader.
I am glad they finally did something.
-
If violence happens it'll be much worse for the unions, you think Americans are going to just sit by and let the unions run the show? no way!
-
That's why it's so exciting. I don't wish it upon anyone, but if it happens, that will be the straw that broke the camel's back. The nail in the coffin. The Unions, and maybe the "Progressive" movement will be DONE! At least here in WI.

Wisconsin Senate GOP Votes to Strip State Workers of Collective Bargaining Rights

Oh, it sucks when those EVIL Republicans win shit by playing by the rules, doesn't it, bitches?
-
So happy for Wisconsin.
When this all started, I thought, "What's the big deal? Let the public workers keep their collective bargaining rights. But for now... no money equals no money. They have to accept cutbacks or extensive layoffs." I had no idea how the unions had used bargaining to deplete the resources of a state or the ridiculous deals that were given to union workers: wage stacking, pay to do union work, etc.
-
Very good to hear. Hopefully this is the first to come of many more. :cheersmate:
-
BTW, the protesters were supposed to stay on the 1st floor but the police let them up to the 2nd floor to protest! Something has to be done with cops siding with unions instead of protecting citizens.
-
I would encourage...URGE you fellow cavers to watch BG's WiscEye link. Things are blowing up inside, and outside of the Chambers. As well as outside of the Capitol.
-
For the DUmmies out there... at least Republicans in Wisconsin are smarter than the Democrats in Washington, DC:
Senators approved an amended version of Gov. Scott Walker's bill, which would strip most collective bargaining rights from public employees. The new bill removes all fiscal elements of the proposal but still curbs collective bargaining and increases employee payments in pension and health benefits.

Good. Even if the Dems were there, it likely would passed. Talk about cut and run.
-
Too bad they didn't pass some other laws this way. Say some abortion restrictions, laxer gun laws, etc.

News Flash! Wisconsin Senate Votes to Strip State Workers of Collective Bargaining Rights.
Bypassing Democrats hiding out in Illinois, Wisconsin Senate Republicans voted Wednesday night to strip state workers of their collective bargaining rights.
Republicans voted 18-1 to pass the stripped-down budget bill in a hastily arranged meeting. None of the Senate Democrats were present.
The state Assembly is expected to vote on the bill Thursday.
All 14 Senate Democrats fled to Illinois nearly three weeks ago, preventing the chamber from having enough members present to consider Gov. Scott Walker's so-called "budget repair bill" -- a proposal introduced to plug a $137 million budget shortfall..

121. Just got back!
I just got back from the Capitol. It was a wild scene and if I just knew how to post photos to this site I would- I'm normally a lurker who likes to read and not post.
The outer rings of the Capitol square are jammed with cars honking to the tune of "This is what democracy looks like". When I first arrived there were throngs of people crowding around the outside doors trying to get in and listening to speeches by John Nichols. He was talking about how and why this is illegal and how it can be fought.
After I was there for a while a few people started chanting that the side doors were open. I followed the mass of people into the building and the cops I saw just stepped aside and maybe even smiled. The place was more crowded than I've seen in the past three weeks. There were Wisconsinites of all ages and sizes crowding into the place, and eventually the police just formed lines in front of the entrances to the Senate and other chambers.
On my way out I saw that they needed help moving all of the camping gear back into the building. They had sleeping bags, blankets, pads, tables food, first aid supplies, cleaning supplies, and anything else that you might need for a long term stay. I'm not sure how legal it was, but I may, or may not, have helped them carry several loads into the building.
Finally, I just had to get back home to my family; but, not before I joined the cars in the honking parade going on around the square.

Felt this was warranted, because while it may be skewed views, it is at least a semi-decent description of what is going on down in the Mad City.

What a disgraceful bunch of hooligan children.

These protesters keep forgetting that the entire State of Wisconsin isn't just Madison, they're forgetting that people outside the Capitol are having a difficult time right now financially and they want spending reined in.

And with the details of the benefits the unionized workers have been abusing coming out and more people in Wisconsin learning about them, the tolerance for the nonsense and damage at the capitol will be even less well tolerated.

The Governor can declare a state of emergency and call the Guard out. You don't need no stinking Union cops to go bust some heads.

Department of Administration spokesman Tim Donovan said although protesters were being encouraged to leave, no one would be forcibly removed. Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said he had instructed Madison Police Chief Noble Wray not to allow his officers to participate in removing demonstrators from the building.
This dick ordered his police to STAND DOWN! Ordered them not to remove an unruly mob occupying "their house" after hours. What a great, upstanding Mayor we have, huh? Am I the only one pissed about this. Madison is like Gotham City. Corrupt to the bone.
Walker is our Harvey Dent. (Minus two-face.) Where in the hell is our Batman!?

And don't start celebrating yet, they violated open meeting laws.
I constantly violate procedure in school politics, but only because its more efficient, but violating procedure to pass a hotly contested piece of legislation is unacceptable.

Where the hell do you get this shit? They separated this out of fiscal policies to do what they did and followed the rules that are written in their state law. They gave notice! That's all they had to do! It certainly wasn't their fault you cowards ran to another state and couldn't show up in time! What would you propose they do when state senators refuse to do the job the people elected them to do? You think runnin' and hidin' out of state is showin' up for work? Does the phrase you're fired mean anything to you? If any other group in the private sector pulled this shit, that's exactly what would happen!
Attitudes like this is what's wrong with the country! The people of WI went to the polls in Nov in order for the government to get a handle on a budget that is out of control. Are you suggesting the voters got it wrong? If that's the case, then perhaps they should just appoint a dictator like Chavez! You don't like what the people have said, get off your dead ass and hit the voting booth next time! Until then, read it and weep! This is called democracy. You're just pissed because you can no longer dictate your corrupt philosophy!
The voters sent a message to their state that they work for them, not the other way around! Just because you nanny stater's don't like it, doesn't make you right. Funny how when you progressives win an election, it's what the people want, and they have spoken! But when the shoe is on the other foot, we somehow have voted against our own best interest and you refuse to accept it! You even resort to violence in order to try and prove a point that is as dishonest as the ****in' union thugs in WI.
I haven't seen a single lefty acknowledge the fact, the only collective bargaining at risk in WI is the benefits, which have to be approved by the voters. Gee, what a bummer! The people who pay your salaries have to approve how much they pay your for vacation, sick leave, and pensions. Wages are not included in this legislation. You can still hold the tax payer hostage if you don't get the raise for an entire portion of the government! Who in the private sector doesn't have to negotiate bennies with their employer, or wages for that matter? You want to be able to shut a whole state down if you don't get your way.
I've seen estimates that it's going to cost $7.5 million dollars to clean the Damn mess up after all your brethren decide to go home! If you want any credibility at all, you'll start a collection to pay for the ****in' mess you're goin' to leave behind after this temper tantrum!
Y'all are in for a very rude awakening! The majority of Americans don't intend to enslave our children for your government controlled population! If it weren't for all your so called victims of society, you people wouldn't get elected for a century!
Democrats feed off of human frailty. Without it, none of you pricks would ever get elected! Individual responsibility is a four letter word to the progressive movement! Gettin' out of bed every morning and working to take of yourself is foreign to your philosophy. The more victims you make and give hand outs to, is your idea of a voting base!
Shame on you, not the reps who have finally stood up to assholes standing in line at the statehouse for another ****in' handout!

Tomorrow I'm going to as the president to set the agenda in such a way where we'll be
1. Impeaching a senator that got elected by write in and has not showed up to any meetings.
2. Appointing a member of the debate team to the senate.
3. Entertaining a motion to give the debate team $2,000 of emergency funding,
3a. The Treasurer will say the Budget and Finance Committee recommends approval.
3a. Obviously debaters on senate can't vote in this motion because it's a conflict of interest unless..... We might not make quorum without them! Time to vote to suspend the rules!
4. It passes.

Yeah, right! Who'd ya vote for in the last presidential election? Or did ya even bother?
You seem to be defending state senators who think runnin' out of town is goin' to influence a vote in a state house.
From what I understand, they were givin' better than a 2 hour notice this was goin' to happen. According to house rules, they did it by the book. It's not the Repubs fault no DemoncRat was available to contest it. If they had been in town, this wouldn't even be an issue, would it?
I suppose the other side has to make special circumstances legal when ya run out with your tail between your legs, right? Bull shit! They brought this on themselves. Now they have to pay the piper!

Bingo.
But Bertie doesn't understand the concepts of collusion and conflicts of interest. He sees only the four walls of his Mommy's basement and the pablum that his beloved liberal news media feeds him.
He burps contentedly after such feedings. Of that there is no doubt.
Bertie also fails to understand the liberal media's focus on the rabid, maniacal insanity that are the relatively few who have trashed the Madison capitol building, waved all sorts of stupid-ass signs, and created enough of a problem to be dragged away like the trash they are.
The entire state of WI isn't involved in this charade, Bertie. Stop beating the same drum the liberal media is beating - your drum sticks aren't big enough.

Hell, Allo, many of the demonstrator thugs aren't even FROM Wisconsin and were bussed in. Bertram, you claim that whenever the statehouse gets overrun, that's a good sign it's a shitty law. Not even close to being a true statement.
First of all, the WI statehouse has been invaded by a horde of union operatives organized on a national, not state, level. Most Wisconsinites are NOT demonstrating against the law, any moreso than most Arizonans were rioting in Phoenix before, during and after the passage of SB1070. Seventy percent of Arizonans approved of the new law, and by God it seems to have worked. Illegals are fleeing our state and that's a GOOD thing.
As for Wisconsin, Govenor Walker has most likely solidified his standing with the voters, minus the union parasites, and put himself in contention for the 2012 Republican nomination, should he seek it.
-
Three independent, non-partisan watchdog groups had no problems with what the Wisconsin Republicans did.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/117656563.html
Republicans removed appropriations from the bill to get around the requirement that 20 senators vote on the measure. Fitzgerald said the determination that fewer than 20 senators had to be present was deemed acceptable by three widely respected nonpartisan agencies - the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council and the Legislative Reference Bureau.

"You're fired." -Ronald Reagan
Context, context, context, junior. Do you know where and why Reagan said the quote you cited? I do.
These are the values inspiring those brave workers in Poland … They remind us that where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost.
And keep in mind that they only wanted to negotiate in good faith, not hold a government or taxpayers hostage. FREE unions, junior. Try and keep that in mind, won't you?
ETA: Peruse this one and tell me where he's wrong:
“But we cannot compare labor management relations in the private sector with government. Government cannot close down the assembly line. It has to provide, without interruption, the protective services which are governments’ reason for being.â€

Hey, Sparks. Isn't it great to step in where the government schools fail to tread?
-
Nah, I just wanted to use a Reagan quote in an non-conservative argument.
That's about it. I'm curious though, why is collective bargaining bad?
Even regressive idol Franklin Delano Roosevelt was against public sector unions. Why? Because we the taxpayers are their boss and if they skimp out, it effects everyone.
-
I just think that if you want to get rid of unions, then attempt to do that, instead of making the unions inefficient.
I think I got it now. The problem is that the Government protects groups and entities instead of individuals.
-
I just think that if you want to get rid of unions, then attempt to do that, instead of making the unions inefficient.
The difference being?
For the record, WI did not try to get rid of unions -- just their stranglehold over the state's budget. Health insurance premiums and pensions plans being completely unsustainable, with the state having absolutely no way to mitigate that as "collective bargaining" is really quite the scam isn't it. Sure, we'll give up the cadillac health insurance plans..... if you give us something else of equal value.
Unions have done this to themselves.
-

I think I got it now. The problem is that the Government protects groups and entities instead of individuals.
Unions are already inefficient. They promote greed, sloth, and class warfare.
The Government, in particular the federal government protects unions--and they have since the time of FDR. Read your history on the New Deal and the NLRB.
Historical FAIL, for which you earn ANOTHER bitchslap.

...and collectivism, which has been an utter FAILURE since the beginning of time.

Yes, the unions are guilty of killing the goose which laid the golden egg. It is happening everywhere. I get so tired of reading how the council cannot reduce this or that because of the union bargaining agreement. It is little more than extortion by another name.
Here in P_town we have three ambulances but will only be able to afford to run one and my have to close at least one station. But how about using volunteers you ask? Nah uh, would violate the union contract. Then too we have the police detail flaggers. Yup, there are auxillary officers who get a pension ( one case over $100K ) and still can direct traffic to the toon of an additional 49k per year. And when the city did go to civilian flaggers the cops won the case and may well get 'back pay' for not working.
And yet some wonder why public unions are getting a bad reputation?

Dover fire chief could get two paychecks: $91g salary plus $70g retirement

DOVER — Fire Chief Perry Plummer would be eligible for an estimated $70,000 pension while still receiving a $90,606 salary if his nomination for director of the Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services for the state Department of Safety is approved at the end of this month.
Gov. John Lynch and the New Hampshire Fire Standards and Training Commission recently endorsed Plummer for the position. A vote to confirm Plummer's nomination is slated for March 30 with the Executive Council.
City Manager Mike Joyal said according to Plummer's contract, if he retires, he is entitled to up to no more than 20 days of accrued vacation leave at full pay. He is also entitled to lifetime health and dental insurance, of which 80 percent will be paid by the city. Plummer agreed to waive future pay increases as part of the contract agreement. He has not currently given a notice of retirement.
As part of the contract agreement, if he was terminated "without cause," Plummer would be eligible for six months of pay in addition to the accrued vacation time.
If Plummer retires, he may apply to collect his pension for working as state employee for the last 25 years, which Plummer said he believes to be worth about $70,000.
"As far as my buyout, I don't have a huge buyout package," he said. "The only thing I have is any unused vacation. There is less than a year's worth of vacation left."
Plummer said last year, he cashed in about eight or nine weeks of unused vacation time.
He has worked with the Dover Fire and Rescue Department since 1986.

And they wonder why there's backlash.

Liberals are for limiting executive's pay and retirement pensions, maybe it's time to limit public employee pay and pensions.

I didn't historical fail! That's what I said, just more specific with a historical context. I said the Gov tends to protect groups instead of people.

Here's one for ya, thundley. Union isn't mentioned in this article but methinks it has the stench of union all over it-

Not a bad pay day for the chief but I bet with just a little effort we could find more. Our former seacoastconnects host, seacoastonline (aka teh Herald) has had some pretty good editorials lately. They also usually have the salaries paid here in P_town but this year they seem to have missed the school department. Hard to believe they might be getting religion. Makes me wonder if they are actually a union shop over at teh Herald.

The way they were fawning over the "faux"-testers a few weeks ago really removed any doubt.
