5. Odd. Why would they ask this?
Elected with a huge mandate, the opposition party destroyed, no subsequent scandals, no national event like war...
Hmm

OK, DU, since he's your guy it's your war. Your "torture" of Manning. Your sell-out to the insurance companies. Your corporate interests.
You vote for him even after all your complaining you become complicitous.
Right?

The trail of broken promises.
Listening to the news on the resumption of military tribunals at Gitmo, along with the concurrent announcement that indefinite detention without trial for some, I was disheartened about another Obama promise broken. These broken promises seem to be occurring with dismaying regularity, so I thought it was time to start making a list. I know that this isn't going to be popular with some folks around here, but I really don't care. As liberals, as Democrats, I believe that our representatives need to be held accountable for their actions, and also impress upon them that their actions, their broken promises, do have consequences.
Broken Promise 1: Failure to close Gitmo.
Shortly after taking office, Obama promised to close Gitmo within a year. Here it is, two years later, and Gitmo is still open, and apparently will be for the foreseeable future. Worse, Obama has expanded upon Bush's concept of "enemy combatants" and expanded it to include the entirely unconstitutional concept of indefinite detention without trial.
Broken Promise 2: No public option
One of the key planks of his health care reform package, Obama promised that he wouldn't sign an HCR bill that didn't include a robust public option. Well, we've gotten the bill turned into law, and despite widespread, strong support for a public option, it wasn't included in health care reform. In lieu of the public option, we are left with the insurance industry's wet dream, mandating that every citizen has to purchase a health care insurance policy, combined with weak pricing controls.
Broken Promise 3: Extending tax cuts for the rich
Despite repeatedly promising to let the Bush tax cuts for the rich to expire, when the fight for getting rid of them opened, Obama threw in the towel in the first round, giving the rich their tax cuts with hardly a murmur. Yes, I know, nominally those tax cuts are only to be extended for two years, but as any politician and political expert will tell you, when you keep kicking that can down the road, it is going to be much harder to pick it at a later date. Besides, if Obama won't fight to repeal those tax cuts now, when he had overwhelming public support on his side, what makes you think he will fight for them later?
Broken Promise 4: Stand with unions and workers in their fight for collective bargaining rights
Despite the drama of what is going on in Wisconsin, those comfy walking shoes remain in his closet.
Broken Promise 5: Restrict the use of warrantless wiretaps.
The latest on this came last month. Apparently the Obama Justice Department is now appealing a ruling that held warrantless wiretaps to be unconstitutional. So instead of fighting to do away with such wiretaps, the Obama administration is fighting to retain them.

Broken Promise 6: Implementation of a "world class education".
I hardly know where to begin on this one. Despite his promise to fully fund NCLB, it continues to remain an unfunded mandate, draining local school districts of much needed cash.
Worse, it seems as though the Obama education policies are designed more to punish public schools and public school teachers. Rather than reforming or repudiating NCLB, Obama has doubled down on the testing/accountability madness by instituting Race to the Top, a broad measure that promotes even more standardized testing, not to mention merit pay and forcing states to drop all their restrictions on charter schools. Worse, Obama has gone out of his way to not only appear with those who are hellbent on driving public education into the grave, but actively support them in their quest.
This is just a mere half dozen of Obama's broken promises, the list could actually go on for a long while. Feel free to post your own and make this a collaborative project. We need to put Obama's feet to the fire on these broken promises, and the first step is to hold him accountable. So please, add your own.

3. So you don't believe in holding Democrats responsible?
I thought that we were better than that.

14. How do you propose doing that?
No one is going to Challenge him in a Primary.. His Administration has said time and time again, you have no where else to go, so be a good soldier and go along..It really doesn't matter what happens to America as long as the wealthy continue to get all the money and percs....Obama is set for life and so are each and every Congress person.. Why should they care about anything but feathering their own nest.. That is the American Way you know.....I plan on going fishing instead...
ManPound sounds principled but in the end...

17. Unplugging and letting this country go as it may is tempting
But as tempting as it is, the results would be catastrophic. In fact part of the reason we're in the shape we're in is because far too many people have unplugged and tuned out.
What can we do, well, a primary challenge would probably be futile, as you mentioned. But we can protest, get loud, put our message out there much like the good people in Wisconsin have done. Getting that coordinated action together would, no doubt, be a hard row to hoe, but what other options do we have?
SOLUTION: Vote for Obama then throw public tantrums about what you voted for.

I've said all along (as have others) that no matter what 0bama does, the 95% of the DUmmies will organize and vote for 0bama in 2012. The other 5% are either moles or true nutjobs who will then run off to Progressive Independent or whatever bizzaro spin-offs are still out there.

Doesn't matter the country is headed down the shit hole because of this dipshit's policies. It is what they intended all along! The socialist bastards!
