We got mad at Bush for letting gas prices jump. What do we do now?
The current gas extortion is kind of a test of intellectual consistency.
When something similar happened when Bush Jr. was in the White House I (we?)got really angry that the administration did n't do anything to stop the extortion through intervention such as price controls, or something, anything. One reason, we assumed, was because he was in bed with the oil industry, so naturally he would nt do much except maybe let little oil loose from the strategic reserve (and of course use it as an excuse to push for more offshore drilling and opening up more oil drilling in Alaska).
Now we're seeing a replay. Do we get mad at the current administration for not doing something to stop the gouging? Do we just accept it as another problem that can't really be be controlled?

In 2008 every other story on the news was how how gas prices were going to starve old people and kill children.
2011 the same media shrugs and yawns.

1. I don't remember being mad at Bush about gas prices
But maybe that's just me.
If you weren't mad at chimpy for high gas prices back then, you were in the minority at DU.
99% of DU wanted to string Bush up and hang him at dawn.

Obama is contemplating that.

3. The difference I see
Is that Obama is trying to come up with solutions, Bush wanted prices up so that he and his masters could make billions.
Hey moron Obama has said that energy prices will skyrocket necessarily in order to push us to green energy.
He is loving the fact that oil prices are through the roof.

5. How exactly would any President have prices of a product produced (primarily) in foreign nations?
If only there was some way we didn't have to get it from foreign countries.
Ohh I know we could start drilling but, thanks to the libs that is not allowed.

8. Let's think a moment, within days after Republicans won control of the House
Gas prices begin to rise. Within days after Democrats took control of the Senate in 2006 Gas prices began to go down.. Not everything can be blamed on just Bush* since it is the Republicans that make most decisions and Bush* just said OK.....When Republicans have control the Average American gets screwed... Every single time throughout our Nation's history..
Wait a second if Dems took congress in 2006 wouldn't that have meant they were in charge in 2008 when it hit $4 a gallon?

12. Obama has moved America to invest in alternative energy--Bush didn't.
Bush drove us deep into the Middle East quagmire which also drove oil prices higher. As Nine Inch Nails would say: we're "down in it." There's no point in attacking Obama. What we must do is set up guillotines and send the fraudsters to hell.
Yep executing Bush is the answer. :whatever:

72. And you think gas going up 10 cents is going to kill the American People?
I don't.
First of all when Bush was in office gas rising a single penny was Armageddon. Secondly its gone up over 30 cents in most places. If it was a one time increase then you might have a point, but it isn't a one time deal. It will keep inching up and up.

35. People must have very short memories..
Gas prices go up EVERY spring/summer.
Happened last year, and the year before that...
Talk about a short memory. First of all it's too early for the spring time rise secondly it doesn't normally rise 30 cents in a few days.

78. As I recall...
Gas prices went up just before the Republican Congress was defeated in 2006? Once the Democrats gained control of the Congress, gas prices dropped dramatically. They had gone above 4.00 per gallon.
Did they drop out of fear of a gas tax or some other penalty?? Who knows? Maybe the fears were unfounded? Nonetheless, when the Republicans took over Congress again last year, gas prices started up again. Sheer coincidence?
Umm actually gas didn't hit $4 until 2008.
I love it when the try to rewrite history.

Coming soon to your local gas station...bottled "Obamagas". The highest quality methane gas (farts) that $100 a pound steaks can produce.
-
I am 101% positive that a search of the DUmp drippings during the Bush administration, when gas prices were rising, would yield many vomit spewing, hate filled screeds of how the energy crisis was all Bush's fault.
Consistency in anything outside of their daily dope habit is a virtue that eludes 99% of the Dummies.
-
Dear DUmmies--here's a bit of trivia for you--in the 3 instances in which oil has been released from the strategic reserve, oil prices have gone UP. That's right, UP.
Now in 2008, oil hit a peak price of $147/bbl. Bush did something an within six months, the price was $33/bbl. Do you know what Bush did?
Opened up offshore drilling. You know, what Democrats killed.
Where is your God Obama NOW?

Never let the facts get in the way of a possible donk talking point.
I know something happened in January of 2007, what was it? Looks pretty bad. Little did we know that whatever it was would somehow add almost $6 TRILLION DOLLARS to our deficit.
I also remember the terrible deficit of FY2007, the last one under republicans. I think it was around $200 billionjuuuuuuuuuust slightly less than our monthly deficit for the shortest month of the year.
Suck it Duches!
-
This was one of my favs today. How, oh how, can we get mad at our Savior like we did George Bush? Thank you Savior for filing an appeal against the court decision that you must lift your moratorium on drilling permits. I especially liked the dolt that wants $9/gal gas so we can "breathe clean air".

Not only that, but the Federal Budget Defecit for FY 2007 was less than the Federal Budget Defecit for February 2011.

That graph makes me see just what the speculators were thinking. They figured 'O' would trash the economy ... which he did. Now we have a republican congress and the speculators are getting a little bold again.
I don't think the politicians have much to do with price other than the speculators watching and waiting to see just what is going to happen. It may be the politicians then again it could be unrest in the middle east but it sure pisses me off when the left tries to blame high gas prices on the right.

It's the leftist way. Blame everything/everybody except themselves, who are usually the ones doing it.

I get so sick of them re-writing history, and we need to call them out every time, for whoever may be watching. Kentuck has always been the worst of them. They are forever rearranging who was in charge of what when something or other happened. As if typing out a dopey internet post makes it so.

Dems hate having their hypocrisy brought to light so much that they can't even conceptualize the fact of it.

72. And you think gas going up 10 cents is going to kill the American People?
I don't.
Why are you so dumb?
The last time I got gas, I paid $3.23 a gallon -- a couple weeks ago. I have to fill up today. Gas is about $3.70 a gallon. That's more than a 10 cent discrepancy.
-

One of the FNC panelists on Special Report yesterday (Shannon Bream was guest-hosting, and she has incredible eyes!) said that, for every one cent increase in the price of a gallon of gasoline, that is one billion dollars out of the US economy. Money that cannot be spent on anything else.
-
Remember when the Obama said that the lower prices for gasoline was like a tax cut? Bet in his mind, he not only thinks he is responsible for that but that he really did cut taxes.
Using that bizarre logic, we have been getting some HUGH tax hikes in the last three weeks.
-
I paid $50 for 13.4 gallons of gas at $3.72/gallon.
Go F yourselves, DUmmies.
And there was still a quarter tank in my car. I figured I'd top off the gas tank before I see $4 a gallon -- probably by this weekend.
-
What do we do now?.... We make excuses for Obama, point and blame Bush....damn the facts, full speed ahead. [DU/mode]

You probably won't get that if you're not an SEC fan.

It's why I don't go more than a couple of days between fillups--that and the fact I can only get to/from work for 3-4 days on a full tank. If I fill up when it hits 1/2 tank, I avoid paying the increased gas costs on a full tank.
I was just under 3/8 when I filled up after work last night. Just shy of 12 gallons, $41.00. Two years ago, I could fill up from empty for less than $30.
**** you, Obama. **** you, DUmmies.

I miss the good old days when a $5 bill filled the tank and I could run 2 weeks on that 5.....

Gas was $0.99-$1.05 when I got my DL's back in 1999. I remember because it was so cheap to drive to my friend's houses and the mall. :rotf:

That summer, there was a huge glut of oil on the market... gas stations were cutting their prices like crazy and people were buying it just as quick. For a few days, there was a station in Raleigh selling regular for 75 cents, but the average price for a long time was well under 99 cents a gallon. I graduated during the end of Bush Sr.'s term and gas varied from $1.15-1.35 that year. For some reason, I remember filling up and paying $1.30 and thinking it was expensive. Of course, I was only making six dollars an hour at work.

I remember Mom complaining about how the price of gas had ascended to 65 cents a gallon back when she would stop and gas up on the way home from church.
I think that may have been in a different century. :whistling:

What, and kill the mystery?
Mrs. Robinson should be able to explain.
Damn, since she didn't show up, I guess I have to explain. You asked if I had "Penis" written on my helmet. I said, well, I do have Fulmer. In the small print I said you probably wouldn't get it if you're not an SEC fan. Phil Fulmer was the dickhead coach of the University of Tennessee. I said "Mrs. Robinson", AKA debk, would be able to explain it.
