While I was outside watching my daughter play with her friend out front yesterday, the guy who lives below us came home and was talking to some guy about prescription pills. The neighbor told him that the good stuff wouldn't been filled for another couple of weeks, but the stuff he was getting soon, he would sell for $1 a pill. One dollar a pill, must not be good stuff. The buyer looked like a meth head and couldn't speak coherently. I had no idea what he was talking about, but understood the neighbor perfectly clear. I was within ear shot of all of this and the guy was talking kind of loud.
This guy looks to be in his late 40s, possibly early 50s. He wears the same track suit every single day. I've never seen him in anything different since we moved into this unit in December 2009. Around 5pm everyday, he waits for his wife (or mom) to come home with the car. He is always carrying a black duffel bag. I always thought he was a gym nut, but he's still Captain Flab.
I wouldn't have paid any attention to him, but the prescription pills and selling caught my attention. If you're going to talk prices of prescription pills, why not wait until you're inside?
Should I notify the proper authorities or just ignore it? This is going on right downstairs from our unit. He's had a few shady characters stop by, but I thought they were just friends that never bathed or something. Now it's all making sense.

Video tape some transactions and give it anonymously to the police, with his name and address.

Y'all should have an anonymous crime phone number in LV. If we have one here, I would think you certainly do.
Just call them.
I wouldn't recommend taping anybody or anything. At least you have a chance that no one will know it's you with just a phone call. Drug dealers - or their customers - are not someone one to mess with....particularly since you and the baby are home alone most of the day. :(

+1. I did this for a next door neighbor who was selling marijuana on the property. I had 12 complete sales on disc before he even noticed that I was recording. Believe it or not, his mom threatened to sick her attorney on me for "violating his privacy". (All of those "conversations" need to go on record, as well. Juries LOVE to see that shit.) :-)

Addiction is no laughing matter. I would report them. Sadly, pill mills are becoming more common.

I would absolutely tell the cops. I'd also get as much info on the deals as possible.
I have done this and it works. One place, in a small town, when I'd see the guy dealing I'd go outside and bang on a pot and yell "He's selling drugs!!!" over and over. By the third day, others joined me in the yelling and taunting, after a couple more the creep left. There were no police in that town the the few county deputies were far flung and covering a lot of ground. He also had to know we are all well armed.
I remember my mom doing a similar thing in Detroit when I was growing up and some hippie inherited a nice house in the neighborhood. She had lots of moms and retired dads out on the sidewalks causing a ruckus everytime more hippies pulled up to buy/sell or use his drugs. And my dad was a cop. They can't be every where and do every thing for us. The hippie left. Unfortunately the mom brigade couldn't stop the plague of all things bad in Detroit.

That too. Those illegitimate and shady pain clinics contribute to drug addiction. Addiction is no laughing matter and them enabling it is just as bad.

My brother died because he took his wife's methadone (she was prescribed it for pain to get her off oxycotin).

Talking to a lawyer first won't cost you a dime but it could save you plenty of B.S.
Then you'll know better how to proceed without the fallout splattering on you.
In my younger days I would simply knock on his door and read him the riot act, in no uncertain terms; "You are going down, motherf*cker, not in my neighborhood"...
Unfortunately we've all seen how the good guy can get shafted while the bad guy walks. Be careful, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Right after the neighbor caught on to the fact that we were recording his drug deals for posterity, we were unsure how he would react. For a little while we figured he'd twist the arm of his supplier to provide a few strong arms to cover his back. During that time, "drop drills" were a reality in our house (I'd say, "DROP!! DROP!! DROP!!, so that my then 5-year old boy could practice getting flat against the floor in the event of incoming fire). I went EVERYWHERE not just carrying, but open carrying my XD-45, to make it absolutely clear as I came and went from our home that they weren't going to intimidate me into stopping the recording, and that they needed a helluva lot more firepower than I had to make me stop in any other way.
Funny/sad part about the whole thing, was when the shots finally did go off outside my house, they were aimed at HIM, not ME. See, we only found out later, that he was selling, but without the permission or affiliation of the local gang, and he sure as hell wasn't cutting them in on a piece of his proceeds. Halloween night, he was partying on the front stoop with some of his friends, when one of the local punks rolled up at about 02:30 and proceeded to spray the place with 9mm. Only two hits within 100 yards of my door: one was in the in the drug dealer neighbor's leg below the knee, the other was in his aunt's car door. They moved out less than 2 weeks later.
Supposedly, the local gang on this side of town is MS-13 affiliated. After watching the Keystone Cops come and take statements on the shooting (no respect at all for the local police force, aka: the bureaucrats with guns; they're more interested in "bringing in revenue" for the city than they are sweeping up mutts like this before the enemies he made came shooting in the direction of my son's bedroom), and watching the punks miss a 10 yard shot (admittedly from a seated position in a vehicle), I'll continue to report this kind of crap, I'll hope that the BWGs actually do something, but I never let my family's safety become questionable because of the activities of my neighbors.

It's just shocking to know that he doesn't even care who overhears his conversation. He looked right at me. So it's not like he didn't know I was outside at the time.
Carleigh and her friend were playing about 20 feet from our unit too. I mean, what if his buyer started shooting at my neighbor and then decided to shoot me for witnessing it? I'll make sure I carry more often when Carleigh is out front playing. Just in case.
This isn't a crappy complex either. It's your average priced apartment complex. I wouldn't have even known this stuff had my neighbor just kept his mouth shut until his door was closed.

Wow things really have changed since I had kids. Changed since they grew up and moved out---thank heavens.
Problem is, if you contact the police and meet a plain clothed cop away from your home, turn over tapes etc. how are you to know that cop is STRAIGHT and not on the take from the drug gangs.???
So much money involved I would not trust my Priest or my Lawyer for that fact. Comes down to not being able to trust anyone but your self and then question your self.
Example, I was renting out my home and when I went to collect the rent I found a injured Pit bull in the back yard. The renters told me they were boarding the dog for a friend. At that time dog fighting was really taking off in VA. and NC.
How did the dog get hurt, no one of the renters had any idea.
I ran this through my head for a day or so and drove past my house and the dog was still there. I called Vice and agreed to meet 2 Detectives at a sandwitch shop the next day.
First thing I was told was to stay away from my rented out home. This is dangerous waters to go into they told me.
I went home and within 4 hours or so I was called by my renters to tell me the dogs owner had come and picked him up. The owner the renters told me was a well know Veterinarian in the area and the renters were pissed that the money they had been getting to board the dog was now not coming in.
Why call me about all this I asked, ---seems word on the street was that I had had called vice on them. No cops had come to the house but the dog was gone. So how did word on the street in 4 hours get out and who pointed the finger at ME as the snitch.
Very interesting world out there, this was back 25 years ago but I learned my lesson. Now Drugs, oh my ,may be good idea to film all you can and pack away in a box in the attic, if and when the dealers are caught, then send the Prosecutor the tapes anonymously. They may not be able to show the tapes to a judge but it may give the Straight cops lots of leads to follow.

No CCW here. I just open carry. The CCW permit is about $170 after class & permit. I'll eventually get one, but we don't have the extra money for that.

Anonymous tip line, but, as I assume this has been a long-term trend of drug activity in your complex, wait a while for his suspicion of you to fade. Call from a phone not owned by you or someone close to you, either.

Fact is, this happend to me and confused the hell out of me. Much easier to look back and try to figure out just what went down then in the then present time when one has chaotic things happening to them.
EC at times when wierd and strange stuff is happening one has no time to sit and rationally go over what is happening, It may take a week or a few years of thought to pull all the pieces together. Things stay in a file in the back of the brain until a news article or news program opens the file and then one says ---OH Shit so that was what was going on.------- sort of wondering why at times we are blind to things under our nose and later find, OH YES I remember that.

When we left for our walk this afternoon, some of his buyer's were letting the air out of his rear tires. Now he has two flat tires. These people have no fear of being caught at all. They would run away every time they heard our door open before we actually left. By the time we got back, the tires had no more air.

Well we won't be here for years to spy on our drug dealing neighbor. I don't like to spy on my neighbors. It just became known to me after they opened their fat mouths. Otherwise I never would have suspected a thing.

Man, I don't know what I'd do in your situation - scary for sure! I'd probably get the cops involved. And mostly my instincts say --- I would MOVE. Apartment complex buildings are cheap for a reason. I've had to live in a few when I had no other option available, when I was young. The also attract lowlifes.

We were putting garbage out front. Anything that had to go down to the dumpster was thrown out there before we actually went downstairs. When you open our door and look to your left, you can see the parking lot. Our neighbor's car happened to be right up front by the buildings yesterday. The guys would dart off every time they heard a door open.
When we actually walked downstairs and got the stroller out, they had ran away again. I imagine they came back once we walked around the corner.
I just don't know why anyone does stuff like that when people are home and anyone can see you do it. Why not wait until it's dark and most people are asleep?

We are looking into moving, but into a house. We talked to our banker Saturday and he said everything looks good, but before he sent loan paperwork forward, it would look better if I had an income. We are really hoping to get out of here once our lease is up, which is in November. I'm not afraid of our neighbor, it's the people that come over that bother me the most.

When I put in my video to the local PD, I went down to the police station to do it.
I brought only a copy of the video with me, leaving the original and another copy locked up in separate - off site - safe places.
When I finally had a detective receive the disc, I sat down with him because he was damned sure going to have questions about what he was seeing. I also got his business card with his name and badge number, and a case number on it when I transferred custody of the video to him. This allows you to follow up with his supervisor if you don't hear back on it, or gives you a point of reference in case the detective/officer gets hit by the beer truck on the way home from work that night and things start heading for cracks to fall through.
See? Not that hard at all... :cheers1:
