Few months ago a Chief of police and a local cop came to my door with a search warrent to seize my computer.
I was told my IPS address was used to defraud company's and civilians out of a great deal of money.
Every question I had was answered that they were not at liberty to answers my questions.
As I look back I was accused of a crime that was unknown to me by people unknown to me.
Off the Police went with my PC, and now I find the search and seizure of personal property with no explanations to the owners is questionable.
I went out 2 days later and bought a new Pc, the old one the police arrested was about 8 years old and I was actually looking for an excuse to buy a new one. I was hoping the police would throw the PC in the trash but they returned it 3 weeks later.
I was told that what they were looking for was not on my PC. So what the Hell were they looking for.? When I pushed I was asked if I knew some woman in Ohio, that was it.
So for the police here, is this normal operating procedures for the police in your area ??? Is it normal in your state to get a search warrent for items with little reason other then a 3 rd party Named, pointed them to you , told to the owners?? Is it normal to return the items to the owners and not go into detail of why the items were seized and what they found to exonerated the owners from any crime.??
Darn this took place months ago and I did much bitchin about it here. Today I have had a chance to move back and beginning's to wonder what happend here as at the time I was just too surprised to think logically.
Now I wonder if my car can be siezed to find out if it was involved in a crime and not told what the crime was.
Can the police get a search warrent to remove fire arms from your home to see if they have been used in a crime somewhere?? Reason is not to be told you, but a nasty neighbor has put in a complaint because you do not trim your hedges and allert the cops you have fire arms. and resemble a bank robber that shot someone.
Crap, I still want to know why my PC was arrested and how all this happend.

I have a problem following your thought patterns, but I'll try to address it as I understand your questions.
I'm guessing that something illegal was done through your IP address. It's possible it was ghosted by a criminal and the investigators didn't figure that out until they had your PC. Once they did a forensic search of your hard drive and figured out it wasn't you, they immediately released it back. Be glad you got it back that quickly....the last time I sent one in for a forensic search it took 6 months to get it back.
They're not going to tell you what they were looking for because it's still an open investigation and could compromise their search for evidence.
Can they get a search warrant based on your IP address? Absolutely. Especially if a judge agrees with them, which is what happened in your case.

Which is how a lot of online criminals, predators, etc., are caught these days.

5 minutes of reading her posts would have exonerated her of suspicion of any hi-tech (mis)deed.
