Nampa police: Tom Luna threatened, vehicle vandalized Idaho Press-Tribune staff
NAMPA — Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna's vehicle was vandalized overnight at his Nampa home and he and his family have received threats, he told police.
“Yes, he has made us aware of threats to him and family members and we are looking into those, and we are aware of those, and we are doing what we can to provide protection,†Nampa Police Deputy Chief Craig Kingsbury said.
On Saturday night, a man who identified himself as a teacher reportedly showed up at Luna's mother's home in Nampa in order to speak with her about the superintendent's contentious education reform plan. Luna happened to be at his mother's house at the time, Department of Education spokeswoman Melissa McGrath said.
“The man was very angry... the superintendent did feel threatened,†she said. The man eventually left after Luna spoke to him for several minutes. Luna told the man it was an inappropriate place and time, and later filed a police report, McGrath said.
Officers were dispatched to Luna's house at 4:36 a.m. Tuesday and found evidence that suggests his pickup truck was vandalized sometime during the nighttime hours. Two tires were flattened and the word “Luna†was spray painted in black on the passenger side of the vehicle and then crossed out.

So, AR, have you heard anything? If these protests are in Idaho, New York should be loads of fun. ::) :whatever:

Trust me, I've been doing my job for a lot of years and I'm here to tell you that most violent criminals are liberals. When I saw the damage to that vehicle, I didn't have to read the story to tell you who was responsible for it.

We're havin' the same problem here as the rest of the country! We're ****in' broke! dems don't want any of their freebees touched in order to bring us to fiscal responsibility!
Class size has to be increased, and starting next year high schoolers are going to be required to take online courses. We're cutting the budget in what we pay to the education department. It's the same as everywhere else. We throw money at education with dismal results. It's time to do something else!
Luna and the repubs are tryin' to do somethin' about it! This has the full backing of our Governor and his wife who has been a teacher most of her adult life.
No matter what the numbers look like, Dems believe we can never cut wasteful programs. We're gettin' the same crap from teachers that they are overworked.
As far as protests, having a truck vandalized and threats to an official, aren't exactly a protest. Luna and his family have been threatened, but it sounds like it's mostly those on the side of teachers making the noise. Hell it didn't even make our local paper, so it can't be much.

I should add, that I'm not real pleased with a laptop goin' to every high school student as its track record in other states is poor to say the least. I won't worry about my 2 grandchildren that start high school next year as I have tutored them in computer savvy, however there are many kids who don't have that luxury as their parents can barely turn them on let alone be able to help them.
Every study I've seen has pointed to the fact it is not cost effective.
We are a right to work state, so I really don't see the crap in WI bleeding into Idaho any time soon. There is a bill to end collective bargaining with all public unions to be introduced this year, but the reps have already stated nothing will come to the floor before next year. We'll see what happens then.

I have to agree. MOST students' Parents can afford laptops for their children. There are some that can't. Maybe "check out" laptops to those that can't afford them. If they get lost or damaged, the parents will be required to pay for them. They charged for lost or damaged textbooks and school issued equipment when I was in school here in Texas.

If they try handin' either one of my grandkids one, I'll politely tell 'em to pound sand! We already have laptops for all my grandkids, and more than likely better stuff than what they want to hand out!
Problems might develop over software, and whether they're willin' to share!

The school won't like not having a camera they can activate remotely to spy on your grandkids.
