Where are the national protests in support of WI unions?
As others on this board and elsewhere have pointed out, this isn't just about collective bargaining: it's a direct attack on the very idea of democracy.
If this chilling legislation can happen in Wisconsin--and I think it will--imagine what will happen elsewhere.
Yes, we're coming out in support all around Wisconsin, but union and non-union folks MUST do the same across the country. There should be gatherings and demonstrations in every major city in the U.S.
Tomorrow's Saturday: will teachers in other states gather in support?
Where is everyone?

People in other states (with and without Republican governors) MUST show that they're mad as hell about what's happening in Ohio, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.
I've lived in Wisconsin for almost 45 years. Do you think we predicted something like this would ever happen?
It can--it will--happen to you, too.
Demonstrate (no pun intended) in your city/state that you won't take it lying down!

Newsflash. Not all union members support unions. We just don't have a choice but to work at union places.

Quite a few people at the Madison protest on Tuesday were non-union. They were people who recognize that a rising tide lifts all boats.
And there were people who recognized--rightly--that Scott Walker's move was an attack on the voice of people, not the unions themselves.
You mean those non-union students that were taken to the protests by their teachers?

6. I don't think that is so. Unions have been openly vilified for 30 years
So there are many people who see them as villians withing the economy.
But there are also Americans who support unions and the importance of collective bargaining.

Why has this vicious piece of Red Scare legislation not been done away with? The Democratic Party has had the ability to do this on a number of occasions in the last half century? You'd think they weren't interested....

has had enough.What is happening in Wisconsin is a battle between union workers and their employer.It's about a very limited request to restore collective bargaining rights for state employees.Once those rights are restored,it will be back to work as usual.
Those who believe this is a national movement of general despair by workers need to ask themselves 2 questions:
1. Has the demonstration spread to include the private sector?
2. Have the demands gone beyond the parochial demands of a specific contract?
The answer in no to both those questions.
This is a specific labor protest with specific demands.

I think that other states are not joining in because they do not want the spotlight of truth about how little work teachers do and how much per hour they earn.

Unions in other states are keepin' their mouths shut because they don't want their Governors gettin' the same idea, DUmbass!
I hope like hell they do come out in support so we can expose the difference in pay and benefits between public employees and those of us who work for what we get and contribute our money to what benefits we get at rate better than double what these coddled parasites do!!!
A can 'o worms has been opened and many public employees are gonna do their damnedest to put the lid back on! With sites like the DUmp, it's gonna be a real bitch to accomplish! Average Teachers salary in WI, $89,000. Average American employed in the private sector, $61,000! Gee, I wonder why they're not gettin' private sector support for refusing to foot part of the bill for their retirement and healthcare?????????
We oughta lynch 'em! Better yet, fire 'em all! How many teachers are outa work that would be more than willing to take the deal the Governor is offering?

Exactly - as private sector jobs and pay decrease, public union protected government jobs have done the opposite. So, private company employees, as well as many unionized workers for private companies are sick and tired of how the gravy boat seems to stop in only one port now.

Having unions in Government was such a bad idea that now, how many states can't afford their pension liabilities? It is absolutely insane to let a 40 year old retire with full benefits! What the **** did they think was goin' to happen?
If you can't sock the money away yourself, you should work until you can! If it was SS, you would work at least until you're 63! With 401k's and money market certificates, you can retire much earlier than our parents! WTF? When did we start thinkin' that when you are 40, you no longer have to be a contributing part of society?
Ya really think these people are actually sittin' in a rocker on the back porch? Of course not! Many take another public job because of their connections and, and do it all over again!
